  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) All of this is a recent phenomenon, the last 15 years or so. Is that so? When did the names of bills change from descriptive to cutesy?

    Obama.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) McCain still had more overall votes. Yes, but, with your map logic, the all-star game was in St. Louis, which was blue as a baby's eyes. The reason it was so close and why he won the primary vs. hill dawg was his support in STL, KC and Columbia/Jeff C, three highest populated areas

    Obama.

so final thoughts, any boos were probably political, b/c from my experience, most people in STL don't understand that the white sox exist, let alone the fact that they have a weird self absorption with their city and team. When I say i'm from Chicago, they immediately start talking s***, and then i say I'm not a cubs fan, they ask what team, I say white sox, they say "do they hate the cardinals too" and I say we don't give a s*** about the cardinals or most every NL team, they can't comprehend speaking of anything else except St. Louis or the Cardinals or Budweiser, and the conversation quickly ends. Rinse and Repeat.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) As a general rule, I hate to see more roadless areas cut into. However, in a multi-million acre roadless area, they are cutting 381 acres. Not exactly a gigantic impact. Logging is still necessary, and Vilsack is reviewing these applications carefully. This I am sure included looking at impact on the ecosystem. I can live with this. One note though, a lot of people don't know this... most of the time, logging done on USFS property is actually done at a loss, and the government picks up the tab. So we're actually paying taxpayer dollars for this logging to occur. Not a good thing, and makes me wonder if it makes more sense to actually sell these small parcels to the timber companies, to generate a little revenue instead. Or heck, do a trading system, where they get the 381 new acres to cut under expectations to re-develop it, in exchange for the USFS taking back lands they had re-developed years back that are now healthier forests. Its like recycling. Yes, not USFS, but state forests, in missouri with that effin no burn policy, logging is needed to help prevent overcrowding and create healthier forests. Not sure of the case with this forest though, just .02
  5. well, I mean when they pump so much money into a drug that might not get past stage IV, it makes sense to give them time to recoup. Effects the consumer, though.

    Obama.

let alone if you did the red/blue voting by county of Illinois, it would be a "red" state. That said, mid-missouri is backwards as f***
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Serious question: Is that 97% of the legal population, or 97% of the people residing in here? it is 97% of the legal population.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) Wait, what? I said it had never worked? I don't think I'd say that. /drunk post
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) Like Teddy Kennedy? Agreed. I can't imagine he's that big of an obstacle right now.
  10. a while ago I was talking about cap and trade and northsox said it had never worked, but, with SO2 I was under the impression that it worked rather well... and I don't believe I'm wrong. One thing wrong with our system is states with senators that they don't vote out, like WV, become a huge obstacle in moving the country forward. And I hate them.
  11. Obviously there are players I'd trade beckham straight up for.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:48 PM) Do the Blue Jays send a case of Vaseline with? this was pretty good.
  13. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) Hedi and Spencer are really genesis, Sega or Phil Collins?
  14. I remember when Obama called rural americans "bitter" and nobody talked about it.
  15. my paper keeps having these discussions about the online comments continually being derided by racist and ignorant comments. I just tell them that if they don't want hate-filled, childish, racist commentary in their comment section, they shouldn't have a comment section. The only times it works are in niche sites, usually involved in the technical aspects of something rather than general politics, fueled by emotion.
  16. if you are to look at real life, at a normal job, people accept workers leaving their position to take another one to better themselves. The same goes for the political field. I feel most like when elected officials from their area go on to bigger things. I, for one, was disappointed in L. Madigan's recent statement she won't be running for gov. or sen. But when you enter into a contract, in some cases, or a term, in this case, that you will be in this job for so many years before your evaluation by election, and instead quit - with no real calls for her removal from her constituents, but rather because she doesn't like the negatives of the job that go hand-in-hand, is a betrayal. She promised things and quit before she delivered them. Especially in a field of elected office, representing and working for the people, of which you are one, it is really absurd what she did. But she's the victim, I get it. She's crying all the way to the bank.
  17. I'm going sunday. Any body else? I want to see women really bad, i fell in love with their s/t. (it goes without saying I'm excited for the later acts, I just hadn't realized who else was to be there)
  18. what if we offered a package of Broadway + a couple of other prospects for Halladay, would the blue jays bite?
  19. My friend just bought a fusion. I'll give you input when I see it.
  20. that's what happens when you follow a team and begin to like the players. I'm not a big albert belle fan, but he was way better than Joe Crede. But I've seen 5 joe crede walk-offs live in my life. More than any other player on the sox. It's not really homerific to root for a player. That's why you watch baseball.
  21. just tuned in. Didn't realize I could see this game.
