  1. Let's hope they play as pissed against Detroit as I am right now. That's going to be a crappy flight
  2. My kids love the fundamentals deck and you can watch the game from up there for an inning or two. Some shade up there. It's hard to get young kids to sit in their seats for very long anyway. Have fun and be sure to drink lots of water.
  3. I have a hard time believing that no one on this team just goes ballistic in the club house. It's difficult to watch a team that seems so apathetic. Perhaps it's time to bring back the blow-up dolls that made the appearance in Toronto a few years ago? Was at the game with the kids tonight and had to control myself to not scream obscenities. I just don't know if they have the desire to win. On a related side note, they showed Will Ohman's photo and a stat update tonight right before he gave up the three run bomb - Ohman's last hold 4/11 v. the Tampa Bay Rays. Nothing like flashing that up on the scoreboard and having the next pitch sail into the left field seats. This team is hard to like.
  4. It's not even enjoyable to watch this team right now. While I think they'll eventually turn it around and contend down the stretch, I'm not looking forward to the late season "what ifs". Really disheartening to see them throw games away early that seem to have sent the entire team into a downward spiral. My wife appreciates that the tv is open but, that's the only positive at this point.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) We all laugh at him, but he is the one in the major leagues making like 10 times what most of us make, just to play a game. I think he gets the last laugh. Agreed. I can only imagine how lead footed I would look in right field trying to track down those rockets last night. The board would be a much grumpier place this morning I can assure you of that. No banana split for me.
  6. Lillibridge looks so young to me. All of the photos on the jumbotron, etc. make me think he looks young enough to still need his mom to drop him off at the stadium. I'm glad the little guy made the plays last night. I'm sure he was very excited when his mom picked him up after the game. Maybe she took him for ice cream? I hope she did because he deserved it.
  7. AJ does have a Weebles wobble but, they don't fall down look about him.
  8. I'm all for Sale as the closer with Thornton continuing to dominate the 8th inning. As for the 5th starter, I'm hoping Peavy can make it back in top shape sometime this season but, I think it's a long shot to expect him back early. Crossing my fingers that we don't have a repeat of the black hole at 5th starter that we had a few years ago. It's going to be a competitive season so every start matters.
  9. I think it's funny that the Cubs actually have a billboard on I-94 that has Pujols on it. It's got to be bad when you're using other team's stars to sell your tickets. I can't imagine a Sox advertisement with Joe Mauer in it. As for Twitter-gate, etc., it's a distraction the team didn't/doesn't need.
  10. UD Box seats > Lower Level Outfield... Once you get outside of the infield upstairs viewing can be a little hairy. It is far better than anything in the outfield though. If you can get your hands on Season Tickets in UD Box, you're able to enjoy all the perks of the lower level for pre-game, etc and then go to a much less crowded, much more relaxed atmosphere upstairs. Big fan of the UD. As for the Cubs series, I'm not surprised that tix were available. Most Cubs fans are realistic about their chances. The casual fans don't seem to be interested in their team yet this year. Certainly haven't been hearing any silliness about a World Series or playoffs from my Cub fan friends. A Monday - Wednesday schedule flies in the face of what many casual fans go for - beer and sun. Gets a little harder when you've got work to get up for the next day and limited tailgating with a 7:05 start.
  11. Split Season Ticket Holders get the same box/cool packaging as full season tix holders. I think the big difference is the swag box that the full season folks get at the end of the year. I wonder if they'll have a preseason bobblehead like they have the last few years?
  12. I guess it's a start but, it seemed pretty hastily put up to me. Not much to look at and I agree with a previous poster that you might as well tailgate if you're going to drive. If you're taking the EL, I'd rather pay stadium prices for beer in the stadium and watch BP or walk around. Long way to go but, a good idea. The postgame scene in DC was much more of a party atmosphere. Live band, beer tents, substantially larger area set aside. The one big difference is that the land is not owned by the Nationals - private owner got the permits and put it up. Not sure the Sox could get away with something that loud and raucous just because of the neighborhood. I recall someone saying the DC beer garden had to close at midnight. Anyone know if Chicago has similar ordinances?
  13. This is a great idea and hopefully will be successful. I was in DC for the Sox series and the post-game party seen was one of the most fun of any ballpark I've been too. That stadium is just like Sox Park - nothing immediately accessible except public transit. The beer garden, while crowded, was a great social scene and perfect for enjoying a White Sox winner while the crush of humanity hit the metro. Cheers!
  14. "To all you kids out there, get that heinie down" Last night he did a promo for a Subway contest - sign up and win 5 subs. He ended the promo by saying "Stone Pony loves a meatball." It just sounded so ridiculous to me that I had to bring it up.
  15. My coworkers and I met Beckham at a crappy Chinese place we eat lunch at yesterday. He was with his girlfriend who my friends noticed immediately... I was the weird guy that said hey that's Gordon Beckham when every other person at the table said, "wow, she is hot." Anyway, I said congrats on the Crosstown Classic and the recent better play. I hope that the Sox would keep up the momentum. He said "Thanks but, I haven't been doing much to add to the momentum this year," and laughed. At least he's a realist about how he's been playing. I know most of you have more baseball knowledge than me stat-wise etc. but, I don't feel like Beckham should be sent down. A day or two off perhaps but, AAA seems like a spirit breaker. Given Teahan's out and our solution would be everyday helpings of Lillibridge, Nix or Vizquel, I'd just as soon Beckham work things out with the club. We have a nice 6 game stretch against middling pitching (Nationals wunderkind aside) and teams that might help get him back on track. At least that's what I'm telling myself.
  16. I know Ozzie and KW have had a strained relationship over the years. Something about this recent flare-up doesn't seem kosher though. You can't be mad at the organization for taking your kid and giving him $50k when everyone else was passing him up. Seems to me like a pretty nice thing the Sox did for the Guillen family. Given the Sox signed on for MLB TV version of The Hills , is it possible all of this silliness is related? Hyping up the dislike, disfunction and deep loyalties sounds like a soap opera to me. Maybe we'll get all the answers in July when the episodes start airing... maybe even before then with teaser plugs for the show? Next week on As the White Sox Turn, we need a translator and a lot of beeps for Ozzie's tirade.

  18. I've had a few strange moments at the park: -In 2002, I took a client to the Sox Cubs Friday game. A few Cubs fans in the row behind us had a high school kid with them (maybe their brother?) who they kept feeding beer. About midway through the 6th, the kid vomited all over my client's back. It was not a pretty sight and made it a very strange day. -In the early 2000's - can't remember what year - the Sox had a make up game against the Mariners so they played a twilight double header - 4:05 and 7:05pm. There was a guy sitting in the Upper Deck in RF - Section 516 or so. He was all by himself about 15 rows up and the batter - I think it was Ichiro - pulled consecutive foul balls into the UD within a few rows of him. Two consecutive pitches, two foul balls in his possession at a game. Pretty random. -I think it was 2001 - my wife (then GF) had a Friday night work patio party at the game and I was invited. I had a terrible day at work and got to the park around 6pm. I decided before going to a social event, I would just relax and blow off steam with 10 minutes of BP. I went straight from gate 5 to the RF stands, walked down the steps and immediately caught a BP ball from Chris Singleton (Rays at the time) that bounced off the track and went right to me. That changed my mood quickly enough to go enjoy plenty of pregame cocktails with my wife's coworkers. -I went to a Sox Cubs game at Wrigley in 2005. I had tix way back in the 200 section on a sweltering day - no breeze, just miserable. To cool down we stood up and went back to standing room only at the top of our section. I had on a Sox shirt with the 70's block letter SOX in white across the front. The friend I was with was a Cubs fan. A super drunk Cubs fan was walking around yelling Sox suck, Sox suck and as he got closer, 10 people or so away, he saw my shirt, put his head down and started walking super fast our way. He stopped in front of my friend who had a Cubs polo on, got in his face and freaked out yelling Sox Suck, FU, etc. It was so funny. Missed me by one spot - just too drunk to know what he was doing.
  19. I think that $20 all in for parking at the stadium would be the target. It's petty but, the extra $3 always annoys me. All in all, I don't think the rates are unreasonable though. Try to park at Wrigley and it's usually double that much. If the money paid to park goes to the team and is reinvested in the on field product, I'm ok with that. There are alternatives around Sox Park if you want to pay a lower price - IIT, free street parking, metered areas, etc. $23 for a car with 4 people is probably less than the cost of the Metra + the CTA round trip or at least comparable. The Sox also are accomadating enough to open the lots early in the morning for people who work in the city and want to pay once for parking and take the el back in to work. Tailgate options so you don't have as much variable spend when you get into the game. I'd also say the proximity of the parking is much more convenient than many of the stadiums I've visited - fairly convenient getting out of the lots and on to the highway.
  20. Too little too late, next year who is the DH, it may be Thome Pods, Beckham, Quentin Konerko, AJ, Rios, Dye, Getz, Ramirez
  21. While some of you have full season ticket packages those of us with splits - especially those of us in the upper box section - have some serious decision making in the next week or so. By Sept 2, it should be somewhat clear if the team will be in contention or not. I can't imagine, given the economy and the sour taste in many fans mouths right now, that the line will be huge for season tix next year. That in mind, if they appear to be out of it, do you say the heck with paying now - forfeit the seats and then just ask for them next year when you get back? It's not like the seats around me have had the same people in them all year - either no one has season tix or the people that due just move them all the time. Thoughts?
  22. There's absolutely no denying AJs winning mentality. He seems to be the most passionate player on our team and I applaud him for trying draw that out of the rest of the players. Especially Alexei who seems to half ass at regularly. AJ exudes hustle and it's the things that most people don't notice that make him a special player... backing up first on every play, being completely in tune with the game situation when other players seem to be checked out. Last night he followed Brendan Harris down the line on an infield grounder - in full gear he was step for step with him. It was crazy to see live. If there was one complaint I have it's that he seems to swing at a ridiculously high number of 1st pitches recently. I'm not sure if it's just me thinking this but, last night he swung at the first pitch in at least two at bats. Seems to be a pretty high ratio of outs on one swing with him.
  23. A few thoughts on the experience last night. First off, the Metrodome is LOUD - even being only 2/3 full. The roof makes everything echo and makes the PA system a muddy mess. The stadium is a pretty dismal baseball experience with or without the Sox mistakes. I can't imagine wanting to go to many games if I lived in Minny. Target Field looks amazing and the Twins are in countdown mode to get outside. I'm sure the entire Soxtalk board is also on the countdown. As for the fans, there were a few hecklers but, for the most part everyone behaved. I was able to scalp a ticket 9th row just past 1st base for pretty cheap. Perfect location to watch the Sox defensive miscues. The majority of fans seemed unaware of the Sox issues in the dome. I did have one woman behind me that screeched the Twins players names constantly throughout the game... started to wear on me a bit as we made mistakes. The place exploded when Spann caught the ball at the wall and Beckham would have needed crazy concentration to get anything out of that last at bat. All in all, the game was exactly what I expected. Sox derail themselves at the dome once again. Felix, I'll be back again tonight so PM if you want to meet up.
  24. I had the t-shirt out and ready to pack last night when sanity prevailed. I'll still show off the team colors - road jersey and cap but, figured the AJ shirt should stay home. The crowd was fairly docile at the game I went to with no rooting interest. We'll see what kind of abuse I take tonight and tomorrow. Let's hope we get 2 of 3.
  25. I have to be there on business for the next three days. Wondering if anyone is going to be in town going to the games? Flying solo right now and would like to meet up with people if they are going. Enemy territory awaits.
