  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 11:55 PM) Lawrie seemed too busy trying to take out Semien's leg. Yes.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) Love this: Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 52s53 seconds ago Dan Hayes Retweeted Comcast SportsNet Jimmy Rollins calls Tyler Saladino "Emmanski" because he's so fundamentally sound. That's awesome.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) FWIW, this gets said every year and I always 100% disagree with this. You're completely right about position players - they could be ready to go by mid-March, probably earlier if they had to given modern training techniques. However, the trick with baseball is the pitching staff. You're just not going to convince me that for most guys shortening ST is a good idea. There is a big difference between working out in the offseason and having an arm conditioned to throw 100 pitches as a starter or to come out and throw as hard as possible for 20 pitches out of the bullpen, and you're not going to get to that point unless you're facing live batters and build up 30-60-100 pitches over a couple starts. Heck, we see enough pitchers who don't get their full velocity until May as starters that I could see some guys benefiting from an even longer throwing program in the preseason. And no, simulated games aren't going to work for most guys, they're not putting the same effort in no matter how they do it. So, pitchers need game action, and they need to be facing live hitters actually trying to hit off them. Rodon had his "dead arm" start last time out, better in late March than on April 10. Agreed about the pitching staff. I guess they could have alot of B games but the owners wouldn't make money on those. So as long as the pitchers need to pitch they may as well sell tivkets.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) I am a Hawk guy. I think Jason will be fine, but I kind of appreciate them doing it this way. I can get used to Jason and still have a bit of Hawk, hopefully for at least a couple more years. I agree. I think it will be like any new job for anyone. You start out conservative and quite and defer to the long time employees at first. Once you get used to the environment and learn how far you can push the boundaries with the old guard, you get more comfortable. This is when his personality will come out.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) For government employees on travel, the per diem rate varies from $51-74, depending on location. Gotta be tough for those baseball players to make it on $100/day, especially since one meal per day is provided in the clubhouse. The state of illinois is 32. Of course currently they have banned travel due to the lack of a budget.
  6. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 04:29 PM) I've never seen someone worry so much about Spring Training stats. My opinion has remained unchanged of pretty much everyone compared to a month ago. Danks is who he is, he'll get bombed sometimes, sometimes he'll give you a good start, and at the end of the year he'll be around in the 4.60-5.00 ERA range. Latos is a concern, because we have no idea what to expect out of him, but that concern was the same on March 1st as it is now. Agreed. He is going to have 3 "quality starts" then get shelled. Repeat ,repeat. He is a 5th starter who will give 200 innings, nothing more.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) This is really good stuff and thanks for educating me. In order for Carlos to alleviate the abrupt finish in his delivery, would a longer stride towards home plate with the right leg allow more bending of the right knee and provide a better follow through with left arm? Perhaps helping his control? His lower body looks about right. A longer stride would help. Its more just flexing at the trunk and hips so the trunk is closer to parallel to the ground. This helps with the deceleration of the body and arm and allows for a much smoother motion. It would also help to keep it all more consistent. Granted, these are more the norms for biomechanical health and doesn't mean everyone is comfortable with it.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) Makes sense and thanks for the explanation. Do you think the abrupt finish in his pitching motion could add stress on the lower back? The low back is actually protected well. It would put a great deal of stress on the posterior rotator cuff and lats (ala Peavy) in an attempt to slow down the arm and keep it from flying off. The hips would also be vulnerable because of the rotation in the place of the flexion.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 08:23 AM) Is it the finishing part of his motion that inhibits him? The part where he finishes with a straight right leg and a lack of follow through with the left leg? His motion is odd in that it comes to such an abrupt stop. That would be my interpretation. Without the good trunk flexion to decelerate the motion, he really leaves himself open to abrupt finishes which makes it difficult to be consistent.
  10. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 27, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) We sure it's a sinker or is it a cutter? It says sinker in the article.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 27, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) So much potential in Rodon it's ridiculous to think about. Imagine how good Rodon could be if he learned to locate his FB/SL/CU and now add a sinker to that repertoire. Yikes! Tough to do with his motion. He'll really need to work on consistency.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) His voice was not what I imagined at all. So far I have been impressed. Agreed, I really like it. The first time i saw his picture I thought he looked like Eugene from Grease so I was expecting a higher voice.
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 06:46 PM) ....unless they limit his innings early in the season. Rodon also pitched around 150 innings last year the fewest amount in March/April , 10 innings with Charlotte 3.1 with the Sox. Right around 24- 30 the rest of the months. That would work as well. Some have an issue doing it that way because they feel that there isnt the base work they need need to buold on as the season progresses but i personally wouldn't have an issue with it.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 05:49 PM) I think they could use Fulmer out of bullpen exclusively this year in majors. Not as big of a risk because there isn't the Boras factor. Physically, it would be better as well. But there's always the debate about building innings in the minors vs. experience of pitching against MLB players
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 06:12 PM) Including college and pro's about 150, which puts him on pace for around 180 pretty safely That's about right. Which means if it's an important September and a playoff run, he will not be there.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) Respectfully disagree. No sense in wasting time losing games when every game counts. Besides with Latos/Turner/ Johnson as you 5th starter, neither of whom has shown much so far, a quick hook or injury, an early promotion is very possible. They will shut him down really early due to the innings load. I don't remember how many innings he had last year but it wasn't many. That's a huge injury risk especially with the high effort delivery.
  17. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) That might help. I have never been a fan of KW and stuff like this make me want him gone so much. I know I may be in the minority or on my own but KW needs to be a VP and leave other jobs to the people that have been hired to do them. He is NOT the manager or GM but act like he is. That would be a demotion as he is the president and the boss of everyone, except the Board. He did what he was supposed to, try to find a common ground between players with a disagreement.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) If Jimmy Rollins went to KW and moaned, and then said this http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0315-story.html he is not a leader. A leader would cop to what he did and explain it to everyone. Actually, I would say the opposite. A leader would know it would divide the clubhouse. This is a management issue and I'm sure they told him as much.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:35 PM) What is interesting is the Sale comment and the link you had earlier about a meeting concerning upper management access to the clubhouse. The most interesting part to me is it appears Robin is on the players side, which I would imagine lines up with Sale's alleged comments. I'm sure before it started, the FO made sure that RV took the players side, regardless of his personal view. It may be the only way to keep the clubhouse somewhat together.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) One thing I don't like hearing is Hahn and Ventura disagreed with Kenny's approach. Before anything was said, JR should have made sure it was a united front. Very true. But again if this leaked there isn't a united front. There will be changes before this is all done now that the details have been leaked to the media. I hate to say it but it's going to be a difficult season, they can't have a divided clubhouse. This is going to be the year to prove that clubhouse chemistry does matter for the good or bad.
  21. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) So does this make LaRoche the worst ever FA signing by the Sox? It will rank up there. Bad performance on the field and starting a battle in the clubhouse. He really has turned out to be a very selfish individual. He will only play on his terms and will not sacrifice a few hours of his day without his son to help the team.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) So Sale told KW "get the f*** out of the clubhouse"? I feel bad for KW if Rollins/Avila really did tell him that the Drake stuff was getting old, and then Sale goes crazy on KW It his job. This is what the president does. Takes the complaint for players comes up with a compromise and asks someone to respect the other players.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) so finally some one can take it easy on the sox management, the present management was doing the right thing without exposing the person who made the request. I'm sure Sox management would have preferred to take the blame and not divide the clubhouse. This will only hurt the team now. It was why it should have stayed in house. Laroche destroyed the performance last year and will destroy the team this year by leaking it all out.
  24. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) Yep it's really hard for any pitcher to be a leader just because they aren't out there every day. That said, it's obvious that Chris, while the best player on the team, isn't a strong natural leader. His idea of leadership seems to be flying off at the handle and showing anger. That's not what leaders do. It can be a part of leadership but it's certainly not the most important or even required. You've got to wonder if his actions would have been the same if his buddy hadn't decided to quit. Also, this is the exact reason it had to come from KW and not RV or RH.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) So he should have been fine with KW making him a closer full time? sale brought up the dissatisfaction with his job and the team handled it. Players brought up the dissatisfaction his their job environment andthe team handled it. Stay on topic your starting to sound like greg.
