When I was in first grade, my Godfather gave me a white backpack with the Harris Bank lion on it. In 1979, the Harris Bank lion didn't quite rank with Star Wars, Evel Knievel, or even the Muppets. I was embarrassed every day that I had to wear that backpack for the next year and a half.

"The Mist" will make a bad TV movie that I would have turned away from after about 25 minutes. Bad acting, bad effects, just bad. "Lions for Lambs" was ok. Basically three stories that tie together. Robert Redford as a professor mentoring a kid from his class that I hated. Meryl Streep (reporter) and Tom Cruise (politician) are ok. Cruise is selling her the new military strategy for the war. Cruise kind of comes accross the way he did in the Matt Lauer interview. Finally, two soldiers (and former students of Redford) in Afghanistan who are part of the new plan. They are the only really good thing about the movie.

The "wide stance" makes Sen. Craig a power bottom, no doubt.

On a related note, I was watching an animal show this morning with the closed caption function on, and the person typing the CC kept making mistakes. One of the featured animals was some sort of pygmy, and the CC operator kept typing "pig knee."

Just use Barry Bonds as an example. Before 2001, he hit something like 3 HRs more than 450ft in his career. From 2001 on he's hit about 30 HRs more than 450ft. Coincidently, he has morphed from 200lb to 250lbs in that time.

I really don't like the Patriots, but I kind of hope they go undefeated so the '72 Dolphins will go away. The NFL emphasized before the season that video surlveilance like the Patriots were doing is against the rules. I doubt it was because only one team was doing it. NE was just too arrogant to stop. Other teams probably stopped. It's similar to the NCAA. Only a handful of teams get caught and penalized for cheating. Does that mean that they're the only ones. Cheating is rampant in sports - and, really, in life in general. Most people will take advantage if they think they can get away with something. For the record, the '72 Dolphins' strength of schedule hardly makes them seem like one of the all-time greats. Record: 14-0 Points scored/allowed: 385/171 Opponents' record: 70-108-4 (.396)* Record against teams with winning records: 2-0 Points scored/allowed against teams with winning records: 43/23 *For all of these opponents' records, games against this team are excluded.

These hour long episodes have been painful. There's some funny, but not enough to stretch the episodes to an hour. I don't even like it when NBC supersizes episodes to 40 minutes. They're never as good. I hope they're finished with the hour longs.

I never missed an opportunity to draw a Sharpie mustache on my roommates when they passed out. It was always great to watch them wake up in the living room of our house in college and realize that they probably had a Hitler 'stache. That walk of shame to the bathroom to check their face for marks was priceless.
