  1. Why were so many people logged in to Soxtalk on Jan 12, 2005? "Most users ever online was 351 on Jan 12, 2005 -> 12:42 PM" Something big happen that day? It's before I was a member. I'll hang up and listen for my answer.
  2. Now it tells me I'm only eligible for 1 ticket to a game. Huh?
  3. I guess I confused ticketmaster. "There was a problem processing your request. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you submitted an order, and are not sure if it went through please check Order History or contact Customer Service."
  4. I thought nobody liked going to Sox games. Did the neighborhood change? Somebody build a bunch of bars near the park?
  5. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) ALL of the Doobie Brothers? (Y'know, they aren't really brothers.) "Which Doobie you be?" Classic "What's Happening" episode. One Doobie died, BTW.
  6. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) my favorite quote from their game thread regarding Bobby: "I'm telling you, this kid is Billy Koch in a fat suit... " Gotta admit, that's pretty funny.
  7. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Tom Hanks is an Oakland A's fan. He was involved in the HBO documentary on Oakland sports. He was rooting on the Red Sox last year on top of the Monster. He is a Dodger fan. See a pattern here? He is NOT a White Sox fan. I love Bill Murray but I'm gonna puke if we start to see Murray, Belushi, Cusack and the Usual Suspects coming around Tom Hanks is Jay Mariotti?
  8. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) Smart money says that we will get Joe Buck (who is very good) and Tim McCarver who is , well Tim McCarver. Not sure if Bret Boone will join them this year or not. The NL will likely get Thom Brenneman and Steve Lyons. They won't have Al Leiter this year so I don't know who else they will get. This probably could get switched if the series didn't have Boston and NY but St. Louis advances. Buck is the A-team so it's hard to say although I think the AL will get him no matter what I've never really understood the McCarver bashing. He says some really obvious things, but not everyone who watches the playoffs is a die-hard baseball fan. So, it's kind of nice to have the announcer explain things. Boone added nothing to the booth. Bret, when all else fails, cry.
  9. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 07:40 AM) Why would this bother you? He may have interned in chicago, but he is from New York. If you moved to New York for an internship, would you expect to change allegiances? True. Same goes for Gammons being a Red Sox fan. As a broadcaster, he's supposed to be unbiased, but he is a Red Sox fan first and foremost. I thought he was pretty fair after the game. I'm listening to the game on ESPN radio at work, and I had to listen to Buck Martinez go on an on about how smart David Wells is. He sets guys up, blah blah blah. Must have had a brain cramp when Iguchi took him deep.
  10. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) There's a Sox version. Only goes to about '83 though. ...."Talkin' Baseball....The Southside and The Sox..." It's a really cool version. Let me guess..."Talkin' baseball, Hickey and Claudell"
  11. David Wells can't help it if he sweats butter.
  12. Do they still do that "runaround sue" thing at the games? That's pretty cool when the crowd starts doing that.
  13. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Oct 2, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) Black Jack and Pearl Jam Link I found it, McDowell is good friends with Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam. Check out the hair on Black Jack. Black Jack was with Vedder in New Orleans in the early 90's and his ass beat by a bouncer. I don't remember the reason.
  14. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) there good now but what happens when the team slumps worries me Building loyal fans isn't done overnight. Kids who are 10 today will be fans for life if the sox can make a run in the playoffs. If they follow it up with an exciting product next season, more casual fans will join in. Attendance would have been higher, but the sox picked the end of the season to slump. Any casual fans probably had less reason to go to the games as a result. Thanks to all you soxtalkers who have made trips to the park this year KW should have some money to spend in the offseason. I'm off the ledge for now. Thanks BMac, Jose, Freddy, & MB. Cancel the paramedics for me.
  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 06:34 AM) "View New Posts" function was not altered in any way. For the past few days, I get this message every time I try this function. The error returned was: Sorry, the administrator has taken the search engine offline for the moment. Please try again later
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 06:27 AM) I still dont think 80% of major league players were on roids. That is a ridiculously high % and not everyone is a cheater. I bet you there were more people not on roids than there was on the roids. I used to think that, too. I never thought pitchers would have a reason to use them because I was only considering the strength benefits. The recovery aid that steroids give to your muscles after a workout was lost on me. I don't know that 80% of the players were taking them regularly, but it's possible that guys were getting on them for short periods of time. I also don't think that all the players were doing it to cheat. Some were probably trying to recover from nagging injuries in an attempt to get back on the field.
  17. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) Sooooo is Contreras an ACE? Not sure, but he's a helluva good 4th starter. His stuff is so nasty. Some guys, you watch them and think, I could hit that (when you clearly could not), but JC's ball moves soooo much. If he can keep pitching with an idea of where the ball is going, I don't see why he can't be an ace. Garcia, on the other hand, is not an ace (though he has the stuff) because he doesn't show up ready to pitch every game. If he can get through the first 3 innings.... A big if.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) Right now...if I'm the manager, I take that 4th starter spot and give it to whoever out of Buehrle and Garcia performs better in their last 2 starts. That makes me incredibly sad to say considering how much I love Mark pitch too. Damn Mark...stop tipping your f***ing change up! I'd love to see a 94 minute MB playoff gem, but I think it's obvious that he's tipping his pitches and lacks confidense. Damn Mark...stop tipping your f***ing change up!
  19. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) We owe Contreras an apology. We all wanted Kenny to trade his ass a couple months ago and he has stepped up and become the sox best pitcher this season. Sorry Jose. I did not want to trade Jose OR BMac. I like KW - thought Schuler was terrible. I like Ozzie and Ozzieball. Not a Jerry Reinsdorf fan. Don't like DJ, tolerate Hawk (needs a stronger partner), and hate to see Rooney leave. Ready to let the Big Hurt go, I like Crede, & wouldn't mind them resigning PK if the price is right. If not, see if Dye can play there every day and go young in the OF. I think if Pods isn't healthy enough to steal a base, he should quit trying. No need to lead the league in SBs and CSs. I still like Magglio. Never a huge CLee fan. Thanks for asking.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 01:24 AM) Knock Gammons all you want, but he's a pretty good reporter and I think he knows his stuff. I really wouldn't expect Gammons to "out" players who took steroids. However, when he and so many others were asked about it a couple of years ago when Caminiti said something like 80% of ballplayers were on roids, Gammons and these other guys acted like it wasn't possible. I think we're seeing now that Caminiti and Canseco probably weren't far off in numbers and who they named. As often as these guys are in locker rooms, I'm pretty sure that they can look at a guy from month to month and season to season and see who has had drastic physical changes. Kind of like looking at Giambi's rookie card or Bonds' rookie card, and then looking at them now.
  21. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 07:18 AM) I have never heard Peter Gammons rip someone like he did on a clip on Mike and Mike in the morning. Called Palmerio pathetic, and should be asked to leave the game all together. I still don't understand how a guy like Gammons can be such a baseball insider, but when it comes to steroids, he knew nothing. All you get from him (and Kurkjian, et al) is reaction after the fact. Before all of this testimony came up, all of these so-called experts were apologists for the players. They'd always say stuff like, "I talked to so&so, and he worked out for a month with Barry Bonds in the off season. So&so said that he couldn't believe how hard Barry worked, and nobody could keep up with him in the gym, etc." Totally missing the point that steroids give you that edge in the gym. Now Gammons jumps on Palmeiro because it's safe. What about the rumors about his beloved Red Sox? Nothing, Peter?
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) Ozzie called McCarthy the next Jack Black Some kind of obscure "School of Rock" reference?
  23. I don't know why, but all season I would do this weird math in my head, "If the sox play .500 from this point...." So when the sox were 40-12 (I don't know that they ever were, but for example), I'd say they have 110 games left. 55-55 gives them 95 wins for the season and virtually assures them a spot in the playoffs. They were on this pace all season, but I can't believe it's actually come to this. Anyone else do this? Thank God for Jose Contreras tonight. At least BMac and Jose are stepping up at the right time.
  24. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 07:43 AM) Are we finally getting the national attention we deserve? We've always said we have a better curse than any team in sports. They never listened. We'll be the darlings of the national media if this keeps up.
  25. I've used it in the past to read old posts from people. Kind of helps form a better mental picture of some of the people who post. Eg. I read several pages of one of the more prolific soxtalk posters a few days ago and was surprised at how aggressive some of the early posts were. For whatever reason, I find that kind of search kind of entertaining when the current threads don't interest me. I also searched a topic before because I made a new thread one time and was reprimanded by one of the "10000+ post members" because the thread had already been introduced in the past. God forbid I make that mistake again.
