  1. Thought I saw Joe Nathan downtown just now. If he's an about-to-sign Coop-can-fixem guy we are screwed
  2. Steele inclusion is being shot down. Also suggests we're not going wild for Madbum, Ryu, Keuchel https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2019/12/10/21005220/aside-from-nomar-mazara-rumor-nothing-doing-for-white-sox-at-winter-meetings
  3. Are we still talking about the Castillo tweet? 'firmara' is will sign 'firmaria' would be a conditional 'would sign if'
  4. https://elnacional.com.do/marcell-ozuna-firmaria-con-los-medias-blancas/?platform=hootsuite This is restating Castillo, basically. Same things we know.
  5. Buried the lede here......Tsutsugo article mentions very casually that we have made offers (i guess?) to Castellanos and Ozuna https://www.mlb.com/news/yoshitomo-tsutsugo-drawing-interest-from-al-clubs
  6. Clips from Athletic article: Tsutsugo is a slugger with iffy defense, but he’s also not Hideki Matsui. Tsutsugo is younger, and therefore more attractive, but he’s coming over through the posting system, which requires that a posting fee worth 15-20 percent of the total deal goes to his current team, the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, as a result. That means the signing team has to like Tsutsugo more, even, than the final number on their deal with the player — they have to send more cash to the team once the deal is signed. This comes with an above-average walk rate and around league-average contact ability, with the footnote that Tsutsugo’s strikeout rate was a career-worst last year. Without much defensive value, we’ll have to limit this to corner outfielders and first basemen, but we have a secret weapon: A source in a front office looked at his exit velocity numbers and said they were comparable to the balls in play off Nick Castellanos’ bat last year, and Castellanos has long had an isolated slugging percentage over .200. Will Tsutsugo’s power translate? Will his patience? How will his power interact with this new league, his new park and the new ball? What would Brandon Belt do in a different park, coincidentally? Would Tsutsugo play every day or fill a role like the one Ji-Man Choi has in Tampa? The park thing is interesting — Tsutsugo’s home park is considered one of the best hitter’s parks in Japan. But as a lefty fly-ball hitter with okay contact skills, good patience, and around this sort of power, especially one that hit the ball hard in Japan, he seems like a decent comp to Belt and Choi. Again we’ve got a player who can help, but not one who will end up moving the needle for a big-budget contender, and one who might sign for two and 10 (plus?) himself. He could be looking in some of the same places as Akiyama, but with more of an emphasis on being able to help at first or designated hitter. https://theathletic.com/1392167/2019/11/21/how-good-can-yoshitomo-tsutsugo-and-shogo-akiyama-be-and-where-might-they-sign/
  7. Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 27s Yoshitomo Tsutsugo, whose posting window closes two weeks from today, is drawing @MLB interest from a group that includes the #WhiteSox, #BlueJays, #Tigers and #Twins, sources say. He has averaged about 35 HR per season over the last 4 years with Yokohama (NPB). @MLBNetwork
  8. to pull that off it'd mean we are waiting out Cole , which could drag on like last year's top FA did
  9. No way to guard against it. When you have interest in a player, you immediately submit yourself to the possibility of being used
  10. the part of our farm we didnt develop as much was the pitching. so you either have to pay for it or trade for it. the options are dwindling and Grandal means the window is now (to win)
  11. When Nightengale writes a piece about you, it truly is the Kiss of Death ..aint it
  12. i feel like the Nightengale article might have been for that purpose. The reputation of Buster is > Nightengale in the "will run to publish anything he's given" respect, right?
  13. This actually isnt a joke: I have been noticing Zack Wheeler's brother has been on twitter interacting a little bit with White Sox fans.
  14. Just kind of wanting to clarify: what is the significance of a team announcement on Yolmer vs. not announcing? And it takes 48 hours to finalize what is actually happening with him, right?
  15. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 7s #WhiteSox Gold Glove 2B Yolmer Sánchez on outright waivers, sources tell The Athletic. Loomed as non-tender candidate with @mlbtraderumors projecting him to earn $6.2M in arbitration. Available to any team in waiver process. CWS clears 40-man roster spot.
  16. RF i think is the spot where we're going to be underwhelmed, free-agent wise. I dont know if it'll be Calhoun but it'll be someone we're a little meh on, and it will placehold for Micker, who they are high on
  17. Bench bat? Unless he were to surprise everyone and improve as a catcher, it's hard to imagine the bat-to-ball ability being good enough for most-days-1B/DH If we were set to be a bad team for another year, then absolutely he would get a whole year to try/succeed/fail
