  1. Problem is that's next year. They are well past Super 2 deadline by now. If the Sox braintrust, scouts, instructors, GM, VP, all the way up to JR, determine he's read for the big leagues this season but keep him down for service time reasons -- I for one will be disappointed. It's a hard bridge to sell, at least to me, that the extra year of control 7 years from now is more important than his immediate development.
  2. Curbelo is intriguing, especially with Burger's future pretty much completely up in the air at this point. Thanks for this.
  3. K rate is up 3% and his walk rate is down about the same from his 1/3 season last year. Not exactly a great last month. That said, there is some hope in the batted ball data. His hard hit percentage is up and his popout rate is a miniscule 1.9%. He just needs more reps. Stay healthy kid.
  4. If Dylan Covey keeps pitching like he's been pitching the White Sox have a good chance to win back to back to back series against Division leaders. Wait what?
  5. having average cheap regulars is a good thing. Ask almost every single sox team post 2008, that seemingly could never find enough.
  6. most pull hitters with power will have stretches like this. just gotta be patient, kid doesn't even have 800 PA above AA level yet. but yea adjustments. Name of the game at the MLB level for any successful regular.
  7. Bad swing, that ball wasn't even close to being a strike Him and Yoan floating around the 720 OPS, like to see that raise up to 750 or better come July.
  8. Is that Robin Ventura like bat wave pre-pitch thing TA is doing new?
  9. This sox team is showing more than 48 win spunk, maybe they might get to 55.
  10. haha even narvaez is clowning them. And Jason, please learn how to call a game.
  11. Optimistic thread tag with Shields on the mound and that Sox lineup.
  12. Disgusting Boston media. Printing all that with zero attribution. Reminds me of Cowley on Kris Dunn slacking because he did three sets instead of four when lifting.
  13. I have no clue. I don't know anything about Byron Buxton other than that he's sucked ass for large stretches of his career. All I know about Yoan Moncada is that he's been very good at times this year and at times he's been absolutely awful. This applies to his defense as well. Add it all up and he's on pace for about 2.5 fWAR -- not awful for a toolsy 23 year old. I wouldn't bet on ANY player becoming a consistent 5 WAR true talent. That is a HOF or at very least HOVG career path.
  14. You answered my question, thanks. They have nothing in common except an amorphous, "#1 overall prospect status". They are nothing alike as players, and oh yea, Buxton has twice as much MLB experience. Other than that, completely the same. Good Lord.
  15. WTF does Buxton have to do with Yoan Moncada?
  16. I have no doubt he'll have growing pains but Giolito is working with a squirt gun, Kopech has a master blaster. Kopech is also a different beast mentally. Kopech, at least form his public persona, appears to have some Pedro in him. Lopez gives me the same vibe. These guys are cocky and step on the mound with ownership. To use the parlance of our times Gio is the virgin and Kopech and Lopez are the swinging dick chads. Speaking of that, does Gio rock a chain? Someone should buy him a nice cuban links, might help his mound presence.
  17. Last night when he fell apart I wondered if the same would have happened down in AAA (for whatever reasons) or if he could have righted the ship (again for whatever reasons) down there and walked out of his start with some confidence for next time. The Indians broadcast had an extended shot of him in the dugout after he left and in the game thread I described it as "bad body language guy". He just seemed deflated but he did come out early and actually look like a fairly talented young pitcher -- he just lost it at the slightest sign of some adversity. Let him try and work out his issues against lower competition with less pressure so maybe next time he faces some adversity at the MLB level he can remember how he fought through it at a lower level. If he still stinks in AAA then it was never going to work but it's hard to see him "working through this" in MLB, last night is just more evidence for that.
  18. Among other things he stinks from the stretch so "simpler" might not be necessarily better. I think he thinks too much on the mound. He gets in his own head and starts throwing tight and aiming. He should be down in AAA working on gaining confidence imo.
