  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) They aren't. They are the best team in the NL by far and will have to really do something strange to not make the World Series, but they are not as good as the top AL teams. This argument will be settled in October though, so whatever. Nice baserunning by A.J. right there, HORRIBLE play by Upton. Not necessarily. The best team in the league doesnt always win, the hottest team always wins
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) Picture/name? I'll ask my brother, as I'm sure he saw her in Durham. Im going to guess her last name is Zobrist
  3. I insinuated OC wasnt a GG caliber SS in a thread this week and I had his defensive winshares thrown in my face.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) Feed me a stray cat. There is a poster on Soxtalk that has that video in his avatar
  5. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) He either whiffed or has extremely weak kicks, because it had no effect on the ref other than startling him. He split the refs lip open. You are seeing the follow through

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) There are so many great quotes from that movie. The camera cuts to Drugs writing the letter - Today you should've seen me and Mousy today at school today. I got cocked on a pint of Blackberry brandy, ate some THC on the bus. We were f***ed. This teacher Mr. Rivera goes, "What's wrong with you Delaney?" I go, "I'm totally f***ed, maaaaan!" Everybody laughed like a bastard. Oh man, you should see this song I'm listenin' to. It's called "Don't Bogart That Joint, My Friend." I think it's by a group called... and Yesterday we received a letter addressed simply to Cornwall Academy, Cornwall, Connecticut. So naturally we, we opened it and read it. You might want to sit down. It begins, "Greetings Dunph. What's happening? I got your letter today. Cornhole Academy sounds like it really sucks the big one. I can't believe they make everyone work a lot and not smoke. You should tell that piece of s*** Thunderturd to shove it. You didn't want to go there in the first place. Eat s***, man. Is that the part where Drugs passes out in the middle of writing the letter and wakes up later and finishes and signs the letter? Every part Drugs is in is great, when he is smoking the bong and doing the paper route trailing the parapalegic brother on the rope, even when he dies and they do the tribute is hilarious
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) Yeah. With Q and Dye coming up, there's a good chance. BTW- Beckett's start gets moved back only to face us. What a damn joke. Right, how insane of the Red Sox to stack their ace up against a team that right now is their direct competition for the Wild card. What a joke.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) After being DQ'd for too much injury time, a Cuban taekwondo participant kicked the referee right upside the head. *BAM*
  10. Of course Ozzie is going to play Crede if healthy. The key words are "if healthy", which Crede has not been. It would be nice to get a boost from Crede at the end of the year playing for a contract
  11. Justin? Oh my god, Batmans identity has been revealed Happy Birthday, go do a bar crawl, every bar in Carbondale owes you a free beer or shot.....or both

i watched Outside Providence last night before bed. That movie is so f***ing hilarious
  13. QUOTE (3E8 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) Cabrera leads all major league shortstops in defensive win shares...by a lot QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) Yea, it's not even close. I was a huge Cabrera trade hater before I saw him play one of the best gloves in the league for the last 120 games. He doesn't have the strongest arm, the best hands, or the best range -- but he's very solid in all of those areas. He's had a couple of "WTF" plays this year but by watching him and coupled with the advanced defensive metrics that have him pretty easily the best defensive SS in the AL this year he's made me a believer. That's the great thing about SS, a guy can OPS 660 and because of defense can still be 3rd in the AL among SS in win shares. Only trailing Young and Peralta. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) Orlando has done a prety decent job overall. I think at first he failed to be the team player we wanted to see, but the others brought him around as did Ozzie. I am not sure he will be looked at for next year, but if he was signed again I wouldn't mind. I can think of worse choices. All i am saying is that he isnt a Gold Glover this year, its not that i think he isnt good. There have been plenty of times that Cabrera has really looked like he would rather be elsewhere, and I think next year he will be elsewhere
  14. Wise hurt his adductor muscle, the same thing that kept Podsednik in and out of the lineup
  15. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 06:30 PM) 1) Orlando Cabrera- Brought his gold glove over, brought his winning attitude and has done a great job being up at the #1 spot in the order( a spot he isn't used to). His numbers are solid at .271 avg, 18 SBs, 7 HR and 50 RBI. Sorry, but he left that in California
  16. I think Swisher spent the first half of the season trying to exceed expectations and justify the trade, and now he is finally comfortable and not trying to overdo it
  17. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:40 AM) And with what has happened to Joe, and the way Fields' has regressed, I'd say it's more likely than not that our 2009 3rd baseman isn't in the organization ATM. Hawks vote is for Beltre. I wouldnt mind that at all
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) You'd think in 20+ years of high draft choices they might be able to field a decent team once in a while. The Tigers took about that long before they decided to put it all together
  19. QUOTE (Allsox @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Yeah, I taped that piece when I was going apesh!t. Only Gammons gave the Sox any props whatsoever (He picked them to win the whole thing before the playoffs started if I remember right). He was the only one on the panel that focused on what happened that night, the rest was garbage. IIRC Gammons picked the White Sox to win on the ESPN website, and picked the Red Sox to win on television(or vice versa)
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Anyone have any best-practices for getting this thing out there? Or does it just kinda automatically get hit? PS, got a pop culture article up there now. You should link it in your sig(on all of your talkchicagosports profiles) for some hits. Are you using blogspot? I used it and they had some "Top 200 blogs" and "top 100 new blogs" that people would search through. Unfortunately a lot of idiots get on there and ruin things just to be trolls.
  21. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) Our offense is a juggernaut. The first month or two it would have been considered our weak length. Wouldnt that be weak link?
  22. *bamf* It feels good to root for this team right now. They look really good
  23. i found that starting a blog is easy. Maintaining a blog, and keeping the interest level up (for yourself) is the hard part. Hopefully you get a nice following and can avoid the blog trolls. Good start though
  24. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) How good Alexei is. crazy stupid. Complete and total agreeement
