  1. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) Don't his lawyers believe otherwise? EDIT: http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?p=922376 Is the Sporting News a Hangar18 approved media outlet? I dont know if I can trust this shoddy piece of news, it might be an east coast bias or a Tribune coverup.
  2. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) For one month, I thought the SOX indeed got the better end of this deal. Deep down, I understand the move, KW wanted/needed to upgrade the offense from last year. Just plain bad luck that Big Frank's injury was mis-diagnosed leading him to reinjure himself last season. Anyone remember just how Amazing Frank Thomas was in just one month back in 05 with the SOX? He was swinging that bat like the Frank Thomas of the 90's. I'll be making that drive up to Cooperstown one day soon. Heres to Big Frank, future Hall-of-Famer Why do you keep saying this? There was no misdiagnosis, he fractured his navicular bone, again. The Sox knew it, Frank knew it.
  3. QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 05:37 PM) 20 RBIs since the Break vs. 49 RBIs since the break. Thomas has more RBIs in your "one week sample" period (18) than Thome has in August and September combined (15). Which begs the question: Where have you gone Jim Thome, our city turns its lonely eyes to you? Yet, without Thome in the first half the Sox wouldnt be where they are now, a point that you refuse to acknowledge. I certainly dont think Thomas would have been able to bring a 17 games-with-a-run streak to the table to start the season. Maybe if you were able to stick Thomas in the lineup now, he would be able to help this team, but not in the beginning of the season when the Sox needed production the most. When the Sox were building up their wins in the first half(god knows they havent piled up in the second half) Thome was the biggest part of that. I dont even hate Thomas in the least, im happy he is able to continue on with his career in such an impressive fashion after being left for dead by most of the rest of the league. But there is no denying that Thome has had a little bit better of a season as of yet, and has been much more consistent than thomas over the course of this season. They both had minor injury concerns this year and it has hampered production for the both of them.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) You didn't miss anything. There is an eternal curiosity brought forth by this statement : This post has been edited by the Soxtalk staff to remove objectionable material. Soxtalk encourages a free discussion between its members, but does not allow personal attacks, threats, graphic sexual material, nudity, or any other materials judged offensive by the Administrators and Moderators. Thank you. Kind of like driving past an accident on the road where the police have the road more or less shielded from the accident, you just want to slow down and take a look and find out what happened.
  5. I am now craving a Cherry Limeaid with extra cherries, and a cheese sonicburger with tots. Those Sonic commercials are a huge tease
  6. LOL, this conversation is getting heated. I wish I would have known what was said
  7. QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:53 AM) 10 RBIs in the month of August is hardly great. Next thing you are going to point out is his lack of triples, right? The whole of Jim Thome's season has been great, you are just jilted because Thomas is having a good season(great second half) somewhere else. It doesnt make Thome worse, things just werent working out for Thomas in Chicago, and part of that was injury and part of it was Thomas' attitude and part of it was Kenny Williams attitude. I just dont see why the Sox are at fault for not believing that Thomas was going to bounce back from his ankle injury. The A's took a flyer on Thomas in the very last stages of Free Agency, so it wasnt as if Williams let Thomas jump into a bidding war. All of the complaining about how Thomas would have been better for this team is pure conjecture.
  8. I agree that calling it a holiday trivializes what it means to society, but I dont have a problem with a day of remembrence that doesnt involve everyone getting a day off. There are plenty of holidays that people get to take a day off that remember wars and independence, we dont need another one.
  9. QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) He was great.....in April and May. He is nothing but a rent-a-player whose White Sox legacy looks to be that he was on the most talented White Sox team not to make the playoffs. He's an endnote in White Sox history. I just hope that when Frank's statue is unveiled on the outfield concourse, when his number is retired, and when he is inducted in to the hall-of-fame you don't revert to being a fan of Frank's. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) Ummm, what? How exactly has Thome been struggling??? August: .329/.453/.586 September: .358/.410/.581 Thome's worst month was June when he went .264/.371/.514 You must mean he was great... In April, May, July(.299/.384/.621), August, and now September. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=2604 So, out of the 5 months that have been played, Thome has been "great" in 4 of them. Yeah, he was only great in April and May..... QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:07 AM) September Stats: Frank Thomas .395 AVG .439 OBP .947 SLG 1.386 OPS 7 HR 18 RBI Ryan Howard .559 AVG .674 OBP 1.285 SLG 1.939 OPS 7 HR 10 RBI Frank is doing his best to keep up with Ryan Howard this month, but frankly, I am disappointed. His OPS is only 1.386? That ain't gonna cut it. Howard is a statistical and physical freak. What an amazing talent

    Hilton gets a DUI

Im shocked. Wait, no I am not. If I were a rich, partying hotel heiress you can be damned sure that I would have a chaffeur on hand so that this wouldnt happen. If Paris isnt getting plastered and driving, she is handing the keys to her equally plastered boyfriend(at the time) and letting him get DUIs. Somebody please tell me when this Hilton fascination is over. I still cannot figure out what she has done in the first place to make her famous.
  13. Young has to be pissed. He was looking at a pretty good shot at the postseason, now he cant even make another teams roster for the postseason this year. Its like the Bulls holding on to John Starks until the trade deadline was over so he couldnt make the playoffs with another team.
  14. i remember when that story came out. The fish pictured died during its capture, so they cut up the fish and fed the local village. No joke, the fish fed an entire village.
  15. I read this messageboard first thing this morning, and saw this thread and couldnt help but believe it was somewhat of a hoax, because it wouldnt be the first time this guy was claimed killed by a snake/crocodile/dingo pack/kangaroo/etc. Its hard to believe that he died swimming with Stingrays rather than feeding his 15 foot saltwater crocodiles at his zoo. RIP steve, you always made us all watch and laugh.
  16. Is Kyle Snyder a former White Sox minor leaguer? His name looks familiar
  17. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) I'll take a Line-Drive hitting Frank Thomas over a Swing-for-the-fences Thome anyday of the week. The only reason I was OK with the Thome deal, was because the SOX werent sure about Frank Thomas and his injury issues and understood they couldnt take that chance again. Now that it seems that he was misdiagnosed in the 1st place, it has made me quite angry How is it a misdiagnosis? Frank went down 3 years in a row to an broken left ankle. The Sox werent in a position to baby him along anymore and hope that he would be ok, the bar has been raised and the Sox had to make a move for someone they felt could contribute more. Its easy to sit back and say "Oh yeah, Frank has 30 hrs this year, the Thome has 36 and has been on the DL lately, that trade sucked.", but the Sox wouldnt have had their early success in the year that put them in a position to win the division(or wildcard for that matter) without Thome and his incredible start this year. There was no misdiagnosis. Frank broke the navicular bone in his ankle multiple times, and for a big man, it is amazing that he has been able to bounce back this year and have a respectable year. Im happy for him, but I understand why Kenny had to make the move that he did.

    Trekkie ~~ or Not

Methinks you should watch the movie "Trekkies" for a better understanding of the word. The movie shows you many things(probably some things you wish you didnt see), and is good for a laugh if anything
  19. He was traded on Thursday, before the deadline was officially up.
  20. Is Pods still the Sox' player to trade in November, or will he be a FA by then?
  21. 22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 07:35 AM) Why should a tame bear somehow receive more protection than a wild bear? If a wild bear was cornered in a pen, it would have been legal to shoot. Did this bear somehow become a citizen and now has a different set of rights? GMAB, this is a waste of government money. A wild bear is legal to shoot if it is locked in a pen? I think that this is an issue of the "sport" of hunting. I know hunting in itself is pretty cruel and inhumane, but at least wild bears have a sense to run away, that tame bear probably just stood there and let it happen. Either way, it was a pretty lame thing to do to get a trophy on your wall. If you want to brag about a kill, at least have the balls to go out and hunt for it.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 09:47 AM) A-row isnt one of the most obvious cheaters in baseball today. Are you kidding? I was told that Rowand rubs "the cream" on the bridge of his nose every day.....
  24. Thats ok, the Tigers got lucky when they faced the White Sox a few weeks ago when the Sox were struggling. It all evens out.
  25. Once again, Its not his fault..... http://www.comcast.net/sports/index.jsp?ca.../13/454997.html
