  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 10, 2006 -> 06:54 PM)
    I'll have to figure it out. Maybe it is permissions or something along those lines.

    I was logged in and tried to load the chat and got this

    Sorry, but you do not have permission to use this feature. If you are not logged in, you may do so using the form below if available.

    Just FYI

  2. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 11, 2006 -> 11:01 AM)
    What is with everybody's knee-jerk response that I'm bashing Jenks because he had one bad outing? I'm not.

    I'm SAYING that I'd like to have more options besides Jenks and his--face it--94 MPH fastball right now.

    Southside, you're right: it was unfortunately a reminder of the 2004 Sox when we had the guaranteed loss when the fifth "starter" would come on (remember Arnie Munoz? BLAHHHH!).

    But whatever. This all happened because Jose was hurt so it's sort of moot.

    But it was what it was: Jenks didn't have it last night, and by the time he left, we weren't coming back.

    Whatever, one game. Big deal.

    But I stick by my concern that everybody will "figure out" Jenks if we only rely on him.

    So you want closer-by-committee?

  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 11, 2006 -> 10:49 AM)
    What team in the league is a few closers deep. Maybe Houston should ditch Lidge, because he cant handle it anymore also. Actually what you saw last night, was typical of the sox in 2004. The 5th starter would go out there, and give up the farm. The team would rally within a run, and then it would be out of reach. Be happy with what we have today. Now we have 5 good starters that keep us in the game all the time. What a great situation to be in. Heager didnt do the job, McCarthy will on Monday.

    Im excited to see McCarthy get the start

  4. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 11, 2006 -> 10:40 AM)
    I went to a game a few years ago, against the Pirates, and a guy who was a true Pirates fan caught a HR by Aramis Ramirez ( this was in 2001, when he was still a Pirate). He didn't throw it back. This crazy fan beat the s*** out of him, pulled the ball lose, and then threw it to home one a 1-hop. That scarred me for life. I was only a few seats away.

    GMAB, I dont believe that for a second. If something like that happened, it would be all over the news. Everytime a homerun is hit, the camera zeroes in on the guy who caught the ball, especially if he throws the ball back. That s*** would be all over ESPN in a second.

  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 11, 2006 -> 10:38 AM)
    You do not simply "Figure out" a 97 mph plus fastball if it's thrown for strikes. You just can't.

    Jenks has a changeup and a slider. He had them back when he was starting. Now, he doesn't need it. He's a reliever, he's not pitching to an entire lineup. Thornton pitched after Jenks, btw.

    Here's the real worry with Jenks's fastball...if he's not hitting 97+, then people aren't out ahead enough on his curveball. That pitch dominates because of his fastball. Bobby gets that fastball back up a little bit more and this conversation ends.

    Sadly, this conversation will never end. Everytime he has one bad outing, people are gonna come out of the woodwork crying that he is figured out. It happens every time. I am only going to start getting worried when Bobby is consistently blowing saves, then it will be a problem. But the guy has been damn near lights out this year in save situations, so im not going to get worked up over Bobby coming in on a non-save situation and giving up a few runs.

  6. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 11, 2006 -> 10:29 AM)
    Can we stop with the rain excuses? I was there and yes, it did not start raining hard until we had obviously pisssed the game away.

    It was almost bibical, come to think of it.

    Jenks I love but I worry that everybody's figured him out and we've got our '06 version of Takatsu.

    In his defense, he had a bad night. Whatever. It's gonna happen.

    What actually worries me is that we only have one "closer." We need options besides Jenks. Unless he comes up with a killer changeup IMO, people are gonna figure him out sooner or later. People also forget that, last night, the guy after Jenks (Thorton? Logan?) gave up another two runs including a dinger. Not good.

    Our bullpen is our achilles' heel right now, unless you think we can trot out Big Bad Bobby to save every game.

    BTW our starter was terrible. Every pitch that guy threw was high. But I don't blame him for the loss because we managed to score 5 runs with 2 outs. Then Jenks lost it for us. Period.

    We need a plan "B" for a closer. Not to rip on Jenks--I love the guy. But you can't have just one.

    What makes you think he is figured out?

  7. I would like to add that it may be a little harder to bring his velocity up in the rain like that. Lets be honest, it started pouring in the 9th inning, who knows if Bobby just dialed it down a little more to get a little more command with his fastball. Just a thought

  8. I saw this on www.czabe.com

    2. Pujols On Fire!

    Can I ask a few questions about home runs, people?

    How long until we can start getting breathless about Albert Pujols hitting 18 HRs in his first 35 games? How come there isn’t constant BSPN (Bonds Steroid Promotion Network) coverage of Pujols’ pursuit of Barry’s 73? What if Pujols hits 81 HRs? How will that melt everybody’s head just thinking about it? How come Pujols isn’t getting walked a s***load more than he is now? Could Pujols be on something we can’t detect? What if he hits a “clean” 62? Will it someday become more cherished than the phony Bonds, McGwire, Sosa 61+ seasons?

    LOL, BSPN. Thats one I havent heard yet

  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2006 -> 09:08 PM)
    And a picture of the bundle of joy

    That picture is great! Alissa looks like she is doing the Hulk Hogan ear-cup! Flex, Flex, Ear-cup!

    Congrats to the Kaps!

  10. QUOTE(JimH @ May 11, 2006 -> 08:09 AM)
    I'll say what I want, stay out of it, Addison said he stirred the pot and I agree with Addison. Didn't know you were his brother or something.

    Yes, me and Qwerty are brothers.

    Subject: Mind your own business

    No need for you to stick your nose in, stay out of it.

    I had heard that your method of getting into it with people started with nice little pms. Now I know for sure. :D

    Telling people to mind their own business, and at the same time trying to bust someone on thier choice of avatar. Isnt that rich? lol

    Oh yeah, Ill say what I want also.

  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2006 -> 07:55 AM)
    $600 FOR A PLAYSTATION?!?!?! Are they kidding?

    Hard to believe, huh? And they will be quick to tell you it is $599(NOT $600) for the suped up system and $499(NOT $500) for the one with no wi-fi or memory card or other fun stuff, but by the time you buy that stuff, they will have their $600 anyways. You have to wonder how much their games are going to cost too.....

  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 11, 2006 -> 07:59 AM)
    This game has rainout written all over it.

    Thats what I was thinking. Too bad, this Kelvim Escobar-Ozzie Guillen feud had me really interested tonite, I was wondering if anything was going to come of it.

  13. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ May 10, 2006 -> 06:08 PM)
    The Nintendo conference was awesome.

    Super Mario Galaxy looks the best of the games so far, along with Red Steel.

    No s*** Super Mario Galaxy looks cool. Im really excited about getting at that new Wii controller, it seems like it has many uses in these games.

  14. QUOTE(JimH @ May 11, 2006 -> 07:38 AM)
    I'm quite relaxed, thanks for your concern.

    Clevaland Indians avatars on a White Sox fansite = stirring the pot. Addison is right.

    He has had that avatar for quite some time. You are trying to stir the pot by acting like this. Let it alone, its a friggin picture. He doesnt sing the praises of the Indians, does he?

  15. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 10, 2006 -> 07:01 PM)
    How would you ever get thru? Cubs fans are some of the more hostile people and they'd smash your car!!

    you act as if all Cubs fans are the same person. Did you get beat up by a Cubs fan? Because you talk about the possibility a lot.

  16. Off the GM topic, I was watching a little bit of the Cardinals-Rockies game on ESPN yesterday, and Stone had me cracking up. He was ribbing Phillips about firing Clint Hurdle as a Minor League manager in the Mets organization, and then started talking about how Steve Phillips has fired everyone he could. Phillips just kept saying "You guys are brutal!", it was great.

  17. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ May 10, 2006 -> 03:47 PM)
    say your team is up 3 runs, but during the 8th inning the set up man melts down and allows 2 runs in. Why do a lot of managers keep thier bigmoney closer in the pen and hope that the lead is still there in the 9th?

    completely hypothetical situation, right? ;)

    The Twins have been money out of the pen in the past 5 years or so. I think Gardenhire is still going with the formula that he is accustomed to. Its different for every manager though. Consider Ozzie, he goes with the matchups(which infuriurates many around here), then think about Torre, who puts Mariano Rivera in if he has a lead in the ninth. Of course, Jason Isringhausen and Eric Gagne were known for coming in for the 2 inning save, and Izzy has not been the same since his 2nd year removed from Oakland, and Gagne's elbow is falling apart again. I dont think there is any real formula to it, I think managers go with their gut for the most part.

  18. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 10, 2006 -> 03:47 PM)
    Wow does Mota suck.

    After Cleveland came back to tie it, he just gave up HRs to Guiel and Berroa.

    It's 10-8 KC, bottom 8th.

    He hasnt been the same since he ran into the dugout away from Piazza

  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 10, 2006 -> 03:01 PM)
    Back to knotted at 5-5.

    And that hard hitting Paul Bako makes it 6-5 K.C.

    8-5 on a 2 run Kerry Robinson triple off of Mota.

    With the way the sox owned Kerry Robinson over the past series, its hard for me to believe that the guy can actually get a hit. They had him all kinds of confused at the plate

  20. QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ May 10, 2006 -> 03:08 PM)
    you know what we do. We should drive by wrigley field, right by the protest and hold up a sign that says Grinder ball rule number 1908: While we parade, they protest. 1-0 Good guys. Honking the horn.

    Haha! That would be hilarious!

  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 10, 2006 -> 02:43 PM)
    During a pennant chase...late in the season...after the Sox had won 2 in a row from the Yanks...

    Yeah, I had an extremely sick feeling in my stomach when that whole deal came about. One of Jerry Manuels head scratchers that really had no chance of succeeding. Cotts had to be perfect that day, and that is just unfair.

    QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 10, 2006 -> 02:45 PM)
    Cotts made his major league debut against Anaheim, not the Yankees.

    Did i say it was his ML debut?

    edit: I didnt mean for that to come off as being snotty. I was questioning if I said it was his ML debut, which I knew it wasnt. But it was a spot start for Cotts and Manuel really dropped a ton of pressure on Cotts shoulders.

  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:52 PM)
    IMO, this game is could go two ways.

    1.Charlie makes LAA look like idiots, and its incredibly fun to watch...

    or.....

    2.This game is more frustrating and worse than Cotts in the Bronx...

    Well, to be fair Cotts was really thrown to the wolves that day. At least Heager has the benefit of pitching at home, whereas Cotts had to throw against the best offense in the league, in the bronx.
