Yep. The current setup at GRF is very kid friendly. Pretty easy to park and head right into the stadium. A stadium in the south loop is going to awesome for the younger crowd. Not so much of a draw for suburban families and old timers.

As a suburban family man I wholly disagree that a brand new park is not so much of a draw because people party afterwards lol.

The one worked out pretty well for the chargers. The Elway one did not do so well for the Colts.

Ah yea you are correct, twice with Elway.  I just don’t think Caleb is gonna have the sway

i also would question if it worked out pretty well for the chargers as Eli went and won two titles in New York and the chargers still are without

Even if it was true, there’s a difference between saying he doesn’t want to play for the Bears versus he won’t. How many players are really drafted to a team they want to go to? And this whole idea of wanting to go to Washington because he grew up nearby; well it didn’t impact where he went to college

Eli Manning happened once and it took a hell of a lot to make that happen.  I don’t think Caleb’s dad is a retired NFL QB with the cache that the Manning family has in the NFL

McVay, Shanny, and Reid (for a long time - maybe not now) all call plays. Does that make them not serious?

No those are three of the best head coaches in the league that have done it successfully.  I watched Flus ignore the offense for two seasons and had his fucking DC go AWOL and now he is back doing what he wants to do, being a DC.  We already knew he could do that, he sucks at making sure the other side of the ball is in order

also, all three are offensive head coaches and the bears as per usual throw a wish and a prayer that the OC is doing it right

We know you’re not going to provide a trade of your own…apparently everyone prefers a 4-5 year rebuild.

I assume you’ve looked at who is receiving at-bats in the 2024 projected Fangraphs outfield.

    2023

    Luis Robert 5.0

    2nd place 1.4 fWAR

    2022

    Dalton Varsho 4.8

    Jose Abreu 3.8

    2021

    Anderson 4.6

    Moncada 4.0

Varsho 2.3 in 95 games    would be roughly 3.5-4.0 extrapolated out for a full season

2020 Abreu 2.8  (would have to be projected)

Anderson 2.4  (would have to be projected due to Covid season)

    2019

    Moncada 5.5

    Anderson 4.5

Lots of 4.8 fWAR and above seasons in there…

It sounds unhinged but this guy is such a lifer I wonder if there is any coach he'd consider helping. More likely he goes to an advisory role while he waits out a gig. But I do joke about that moment where Belicheck was so laudatory to Flus after the bears whipped the patriots last year.

This cycle was wild to me. I'm embarrassed to be shocked that Brian Flores got no real traction after what he did in Minnesota this year. I'm pretty amazed Macdonald may end up without an HC role. Vrabel not being immediately snatched upf loors me.

And mainly it's because they are choosey, but considering some of the coaches (1-year OC in Canales, LInebacker coach in Las Vegas, Non-play calling OC in TN, Linebacker coach in NE) it's very surprising.

But also kinda good news for the bears as when I really was tipped over the edge on us not getting a coach was when it was clear vrabel would be available. That guy can coach.

I think Flores will forever have what happened in Miami as an albatross around his neck.  Absolutely wrong, he shouldn’t, but owners are a boys club that you can’t cross

This is a MAJOR project, fwiw. It will probably cost less than the full 78 site, but you're basically talking about spending so much money that you might as well build a new ballpark. The outfield isn't built to support the weight of an entire second story on top of it, so you are completely rebuilding the support for the outfield while also stripping off and redesigning the infield - while also considering how this will change factors like wind, sunlight into the luxury boxes, etc. It would be difficult to strip off most of the upper deck while still preserving the luxury boxes, and that would look straight up odd in addition to being a high cost.

If you're going to spend hundreds of millions to renovate a park into something monstrous at a bad site, just pass on the idea and spend more to build something FAR BETTER at a good site.

For example, if your options are a beautiful domed football stadium in the suburbs or building a monstrosity on the lakeshore that looks like you landed a spaceship inside a once historic building that everyone hates because it is awful and hard to get to, do not build the stupid space ship. It will be a massive waste of money, it will look ridiculous, and in 20 years you'll be tired of it and wanting the actual professional building in the suburbs. This may or may not be relevant to any other team.

When referring to the other team, that stadium was also the third smallest in the league the moment it was completed 😂

(and now, 20 years later when all of the above you wrote is also true, it is the smallest by almost 2K seats)
