  1. Congrats Jose on a fine dandy of an outing. It was nice to finally give our bullpen a night to sit back and relax. See that Mark? Get the competitive juices flowing and pitch better than Jose!
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) Any win is a good win. Exactly. I was just pointing out the flawed theory. I'm tired, but happy as can be.
  3. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) If the Yankees hadn't committed all those errors we never would have won it. However it is a win and I'll gladly take it. All. part. of. the. game. If Brandon hadn't put it on a platter for Cabrera then it wouldn't have been a nail biter. Fielders make mistakes and its not a good win. Pitchers make mistakes and its a good win. Frustrating thing about baseball but thats the way it is.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) BIG WIN. We played pretty bad all 3 games, so to get 2 of 3 from them despite that is huge. Detroit is coming in with a rare 2 game losing streak, maybe we caught them at a good time. Both teams didn't play overall in the series. But this series reminded me a little of last year. Not pretty but we ground it out. Don't forget, Twice our starting pitchers allowed 4 or less. You do that consistantly, we can still win a lot of ball games. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:13 PM) Awesome? His WHIP had to be something like 9.50 or something. He survived. That's it. He did SURVIVE. And given the situations that he put himself in, he got the job done when he needed to. Against this very good Yankee lineup, SURVIVING is a very good case scenario.
  5. QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) I'm thankful this series is over because this umpiring crew had a very tight strike zone. Sure, it was equal for both sides, but I really thought Mussina ended an inning striking out Anderson. Fortunately for us, BA doubled later in that at bat and Pods drove him in with the winning RBI single. Not sure if I would call it tight but tonights was just terribly inconsistant. Up/down, in/out? Fishin ridiculous.
  6. Big hats to Javy for grinding through 5. Did we see him turn a corner after the last two games? He had about 5 chances to crack and he strapped it down and didn't. He made me sweat but he pulled it out. Hats to Bobby tonight too.
  7. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) If ... Jim Thome has raked a mammoth home run in the ninth, instead of grounding out, how happy would we be right now? Would it have been monumental celebration on this board? We would have declared a turnaround. Instead . . . .
  8. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) I listened to that for 45 minutes straight one day... my mom asked me I was on drugs. I'd have to wonder too. Unless you were someone who had watched the game. Personally, I completely understand.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) This one by far. In 04 we had the injuries, we had the 5th starter by committee. We had that horrible stretch in August and Joe Borchard was our RF. I didnt expect to win then. I thought this year was going to be a cakewalk into the playoffs. I knew our O would be good, but I thought our pitching would show up. I never estimated how many bad moves Ozzie would make this year. See you guys tomorrow. Be nasty Javy.
  10. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:55 PM) exactly how i feel and probably most others.....but i gotta say though that 5 spot problem almost gave me a corenery that season Yeah but it was easier to have lower expectations. We didn't know what this rotation is capable of.
  11. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) so what season has been more frustrating, this one or 2004? This. Once you taste the shuga . . .
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) Lefty One Out Guy Y AKA Kelly Wunsch. AKA (supposedly) Mike Myers
  13. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) ???????? I'm so confused by what you mean by that? Do you think I'm telling you you can't say he sucks? Cause I'm not, I was just telling you I highly disagree. No problem. Lets move on class . . .
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Hawk repeats this line very often, stating that Ozzie would have won 2 World Series championships in his first two years if these guys didn't get injured. Thanks. Aaah, the Hawk "if-onlys . . . " Haven't heard him in awhile.
  15. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Are you sure about that? He sucks? Hmm....... Ooo, sorry, is that a swear violation? I didn't read the policy and haven't been psting in awhile.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) Didn't you know though that Ozzie would be 2 for 2 if Ordonez and Frank were healthy. ?Elaborate?
  17. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) Well, I don't think we'll ever be in a situation that we have to choose Thome or A-Rod, so I think we're okay Yep and lest we forget who hit the nice 3-runner tonight.
  18. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Are you sure about that? He sucks? Hmm....... Granted a little exaggeration in the wee hours of the night but I'd rather have Thome.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) I got them off Baseballreference.com so yeah. If you're not going to go off stats in this situation I do not know what you're going to do. Do yourself a favor and read this whole thread, there's been quite a few clutch plays by Thome mentioned in here. And for the record I am not a sabr guy but thanks for insinuating. The original Jab at Thome strikes me as a little of what I hear constantly out here about ARod. Always "What have you done for me lately?" and conveniently forgetting the past. How long until Konerko strikes out in a big situation and we forget the homer against Rivera last night? Just a joke. . . . . Granted ARod stills sucks but it still reminded me of it a little . . .
  20. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) But... they all fail 7 out of 10 times they come to the plate! That truly is the essence of failure. Sheesh.
  21. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) I agree with Fathom here. However our bullpen also can be mediocre to s***. I can't understand why the people who wanted Garland out of there can't see that the bullpen also likely would have sucked. Oz can't win either way. It's not like these bullpen guys are studs. I would tend to disagree. Generally our bullpen has been put in bad situations lately. Other than 13-11 at Baltimore, there hasn't been a stretch when they aren't above average. I trust a mix from our bullpen more than our starting pitching. They held a tough Boston lineup in check for 12+ innings. The performance of our starting pitching is exactly the reason why KW solidified our bullpen and our offense. He knew they had career years last year and there would be a dropoff. Just maybe not everyone 4+ era.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) I can't believe anyone would blame any of the following on the Sox this year: Thome, PK, Crede, and Dye. Those four guys are having superior years, and they've all been pretty damn consistent all season. Agreed, agreed, agreed, agreed. Unfortunately, those are the only four guys having career years. And unless those guys can throw, we might be having a few more of these threads. I like having pitchers fear 2-6. I mean REALLY fear. But the only problem, no one fears our pitching. THey've been hit around long enough now where hitters relaxing in the box and waiting their turn. They know if they hang around for 4-5 innings, they'll get their shot more often than not.
  23. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) Podsednik has to go, and its frustrating because I, and many others, think we have the replacement sitting right on the bench: Rob Mackowiak. The guy is a killer against righties, and I think he can play LF much better than Podsednik, as it is the easiest outfield position to play. Sure, he's not your prototypical leadoff hitter, but Pods is just plain terrible right now. It's a move that makes sense. I wholeheartedly agree. Its a slight upgrade on defense, big upgrade in batting and who the hell cares about base stealing? Pods hasn't been stealing bases since the ASB. While he's not your prototypical leadoff hitter, its not like Pods has been tearing the cover at all.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) We're a 5 man offense. If Thome, PK, Dye, Crede, or AJP don't produce, we're likely not going to get anything. Still, having 5 players you can count on to do something good every series is pretty good. Agreed. But Pods looks like he's swinging a spaghetti noodle up there. BA is average at best lately. And while AJP has been hitting well, it doesn't seem like he's hitting well w/ RISP lately. He seems to be swinging at a lot of bad pitches and its just frustrating.
  25. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) Well I was hoping to see bmac in the rotation this year, however according to Ozzie bmac was terrible last year. I guess having a 1.59 ERA down the stretch is horrible and our current rag tag group of starters are a much better option than the super stud that we dont want to trade unless we get a kings ransom. For KW pushing for the here and now, I have to wonder why he wouldn't push for BMac in the starting rotation. Especially after umptillion trade offers and his performance in the second half of the year in 05.
