  1. Can someone describe the Rowand play for those of us that couldn't see it. It was described as a double to center fielder Aaron Rowand....was it a tough play?
  2. Vizcaino since it will be a switch hitter. While I am still waiting to see it, Viz is supposedly tougher on lefties even though he is a righty. A switch hitter would bat lefty against Viz and righty against Marte.
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) Your name is Ross Gload. I have no problem with the guy feeling this way...and, heck, I may even agree with him that he deserved a roster spot over, say, I dunno... But, you cannot voice that sort of opinion at this point in the season. s*** happens. Nothing good is going to come out of opening your mouth and voicing that sort of opinion. Keep your trap shut and enjoy playing at the major league level for the next month. Turn the page. My sentiments exactly. I would be the first to agree with Ross that he could have and maybe should have been up in the middle of the season, perhaps for good. But injuries to Crede (and other IFs), Pods, and our need for extra bullpen arms cost him a spot since Konerko and the DH position (which could be anyone when Frank is not here) have been our most consistent in term of not needing rest or injuries. Konerko does not need his legs because even when he is 100% healthy, he doesn't have any use for them. So circumstances and the way Guillen uses his players all over the place made Gload the odd man out. Talk to Guillen about it, vent to Buerhle about it, talk to your best friend at home about it, just don't blurt it out to the media the day you are called up. I bet no one even cared and his teammates might even agree with him but it sounds like pouting to a team that just doesn't need it right now. Do you think his comments will endear him to Guillen and get him more PT? I doubt it, and judging by Guillen's response, looks like Gload has already fallen out of favor with him. He was sent down after 13 ABs this season due to injury and then never really had an opportunity to come back...s*** happens like that especially to the 25th man on the team. His roster spot was always tenuous at best because if we needed an extra pitcher the last position player would go. And they both went...Gload and Harris...now both are back so suck it up and play ball. This isn't a Wally Pip/ Lou Gehrig situation so we shouldn't feel bad for Ross that he had a good September in 2004 and never really got a chance to take Konerko's job. Hell, when you're pretty much a career minor leaguer, you are known for your perserverence so go out and have another decent September, be a good teammate and maybe you will have an increased role in '06 with the Sox (especially if we don't resign Kong) or another team.
  4. I wish Ross Gload would just shut his mouth. The Sox gave him a chance last season due to injuries and this season, they have done just fine without him. For all those that say he has a right to be pissed...yes he does, in private...not to the media. We don't need a malcontent coming up to a team that has been in first for the entire season and instead of giving the team a shot in the arm, he is taking a shot at them in the media. Fine, use the 234 ABs from last season to get yourself a decent contract next year with some other team.
  5. It would be nice to have Borchard up so that if we are ever down by 2 with runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs in the ninth with a righty on the mound, JB can pinch hit and we can all pray for the 504 foot shot to win it.
  6. I predict the Sox will go 17-12 in September and Cleveland will go 18-9. It won't be enough and the Sox will hang on to win the division. The last series versus Cleveland won't matter because the Sox will have already clinched with 4 left to go. I hope we win more but at this point, I just want to win the division any way we can and get into the playoffs where our starting pitching and bullpen can shine. As long as our first two starters hold their own against either Boston, NY, LA or Oak our 3 and 4 starters can dominate the other team's...as will our bullpen.
  7. I love Frank Thomas and hope he comes back to play in October and finishes his career with the Whitesox. But I wish he would have stated his goal is to comeback and be a part of a championship run as opposed to getting those 52 homers for 500. I know he wants it and we all want him to get it but I just wish he would talk in terms of the team in regards to his goals. But in any event, the greatest hitter in Whitesox history deserves to finish his career with the Whitesox...as a champion.
  8. The media and fans talk about Pods being the team's MVP. Well, by those standards, yes he is overrated. Even Guillen implied that too much credit is being given to Pods...stating that the team wasn't scoring runs even with him in the line-up. As simply a solid table setter and a disrupter to the opposition, then he is not overrated. As a leadoff hitter with speed, let's see a better OBP and BA. I know not everything shows up in stats but if you hit .280, steal 70 bases (and are caught stealing nearly 20 times), have 30 RBIs and score 80 runs, then you are a good lead-off hitter with speed...not MVP. However, he should not be first on that list. Let's face it, the pitching has been our MVP and we have been in a funk lately because our pitching has come back down to earth so that our 2 and 3 runs scored have not been enough to win. The closest thing we have to a position player that is MVP is Aaron Rowand (below his "normal" year, maybe) hitting and Gold Glove defense. Jermaine Dye is close with the better power numbers.
  9. You trot Buerhle out there *period* You don't want to send a message that you're down on him as the post season starts. Also, you're guaranteed 6 innings and that can allow the bullpen to relax with any Game 1 jitters and the current 5th starter can work if Buerhle gets in trouble. Garland next...with his sinker, it would be good to have a ground ball pitcher in the launching pad known as the Cell. If we're playing the yanks, maybe Contreras. Freddy on the road is a great call and it will be the pivotal game 3 to go up 3-0, take control 2-1 or stop the bleeding if we're down 0-2. Then big game Duque or Garland (if you used Contreras already) to close it out, keep the mo, or tie it up. That way, if there is game seven, you can go with Garcia or big game Duque.
  10. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) Ahhh yes, the gospel that is a fellow player... Sheeesh. If BMac said the world was flat you'd believe it. "stuff" is the last thing I'd cite to describe Haigwood's success. You make a good point about what a fellow player says and you're right I should not be so naive as to simply believe it but I don't appreciate the sarcasm. With that said, I would clearly believe our #1 prospect/ major leaguer over some guy with Rib and Rhub as his avatar because at the end the prospect might....just might know a little bit more about pitching. Oh great Randar, is the world not flat?
  11. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) Haigwood has some of the filthiest stuff in the organization....according to BMac so I take his word for it over any of us fans.
  12. Roster spot = Young or Owens who are not on the 40 man. .340 hitter with speed or 30-30 man (granted its all at Bham) but would be nice in September.
  13. 1) BMac 2) Gio Gonzalez 3) Tracey 4) Haigwood 5) Liotta Honorable mention) Broadway, Baj Tracey and Haigwood = Filthy stuff Gio Gonzalez and Liotta = crafty lefty BMac = freak (180 lb. strikeout artist...Pedro-esque) Broadway and Baj = solid
  14. I voted "no" because when there is only a hint of smoke for 3 weeks, its probably true that you have been rubbing sticks together but no imminent fire. Maybe one stick is a little wet (Lindner), in which case even if the other stick (KW) is working tirelessly with single-minded efficiency on the same spot (KGJ), there will be no fire. But, if it does happen, I hope Chris Young is not in the deal as I would rather give up Sweeney, Owens, Tracey or Liotta over Young. The only non-pitching prospect I would not want to give up more than Young is Valido because we will need infield help in the near future and we have plenty of upcoming OFs.
  15. If Griffey trade happens: Carl in left, Rowand in center and Griffey as DH If Griffey trade does not happen: Anderson in left, Rowand in center and Carl as DH You don't move a potential gold glover from center to appease a player that you want for his bat. If he vetos the trade because he will be DH, then he isn't good for team with his me-first attitude any way.
  16. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) Birmingham is in the middle of a playoff race. I don't think they're going to wanna give up their lead-off man at this point in the season. The Sox will make an organizational move, like Leo Daigle again, before they move Owens/Rogo/Young Good point. But would they sacrifice the coveted Southern League title for Griffey?
  17. Chris Young has been batting lead-off the past few games in AA...could we see him in Chicago soon given Pods injury? I hope Anderson answers the bell as a much needed left-handed bat (with Rowand batting lead-off) because I would love to have our team strengthened from within. I would like to have Griffey but I just hate to give up Chris Young. I know potential is often given too much value but I am afraid to see the scenario where we give up Young and Rogo, Griffey comes over and gets hurt and/or we don't win it this year. Chris Young goes on to be the next great CF and we have Griffey from age 35-40 with no steroids.
  18. Owens may be sitting, not due to a trade, but because he will be moving to AAA Charlotte when Anderson gets the call up to the majors. You figure that Pods will be out a couple of weeks and that will lead to Sept. 1st when Anderson would have gotten the call any way so now you just move Owens up to see if he can finish off the season strong in AAA.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) the suspense already ruined the truth. It wasnt meant as a big deal. Basically I sat behind the bullpen for about 40 games last year. I always saw adkins coming in the pen before the game with a brown paper bag. After much deliberation about his weight etc, we decided that it was a lunch and begun asking him if he had a turkey or ham sandwich for that game. This then morphed into us just calling him sack lunch, and then just sack. The nickname sort of fits him. So after about 25 games of this, we finally meet him at Joes one night and get to ask him whats in the sack. Apparently he brings a Giant sack of Candy to the bullpen every game for the other guys and himself. Which is why we believe that he is so well received in the clubhouse. See, not a huge deal. Thanks. I was thinking that you guys saw him with a lunch bag full of stanozolol or something but didn't want to call out one of our ChiSox. But its good to see that twizzlers, mars bars and m&ms are his "protein."
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) So it must be band-aids and neosporin for when he gets a cut. (This is all sarcasm, BTW) What the hell is in the bag!?!?!?!?!?!?! Enough teasing, its been over a week....
  21. I think Borchard should get the call-up now in place of Adkins while Carl is down. We really have not used Adkins all that much so carrying 12 pitchers when we have a serious hole (or holes) in our line-up is a problem. Since most pitchers are right-handed, Borchard gives us the power left-handed bat in the line-up. I know he has been a bust to this point but he is playing well right now and if there is any time he is going to succeed, it will be now when he is hot so let's get some use out of the $5.3 million signing bonus. Anderson should get the call in September especially if Borchard struggles again but for some reason, I think Borchard will be successfull this time.
  22. QUOTE(mwolfson @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 12:09 AM) What's Jon Garland doing sitting in the stands during a game?
  23. QUOTE(DaveIsHere @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) and then his "Hendry is getting Ramirez as everyone wants to be a Cub" He did get Ramirez....Aramis Ramirez!
  24. QUOTE(Hanky Panky @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) The Sox get rid of Ross Gload & Willie Harris, & they bring back Jon Adkins? Why the hell would they make such a move? We need a worthy bullpen arm, not a lousy P.O.S. "This kid" was solid for Ozzie last year and I think the Whitesox brass are simply being loyal and men of their words. They told BMac that he would be the first person up if they needed a starter and he was. They told Adkins that when they needed a bullpen arm and the situation dictated, he would get the call. Well, the earlier situation with Marte out dictated Kevin "Left-handed pitcher and that is about all I am" Walker get the call but now when they simply need another bullpen arm, they are calling up Adkins as they promised. The Jenks call-up was more of KW and Ozzie's drool fantasy over his nasty stuff so when you see someone that you have a woody over do something promising, you bring them up and send the Japanese import packing! I think they tried to increase Adkins trade value by making him a starter again at AAA (and with his Major League experience) but he stunk it up transitioning back to his previous role, so I think they are seeing if he can fill in a long-relief role as needed (i.e. every other start by Contreras). I don't see anything wrong with that. Sure Bajenaru could have gotten the call but I think he will be up in Sept and have a more situational role as he is accustomed to as opposed to long relief.
  25. QUOTE(Cali @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 04:48 AM) Man, I'm getting excited about Valido, perhaps the Sox can finally have themselves homegrown SS that succeeds. I agree. I am so sick of seeing so many good to great shortstops come up with so many other teams and the whitesox still proud of Ozzie Guillen (from San Diego system) and the Dybber...Jerry Dybzinski (who cares what system???). Please Robert Valido...don't become Mike Caruso Also, does anyone know what happened to Jason Dallaero? I know he was a SS/2B prospect turned "pitcher" experiment but not sure if he is completely out of the system now.
