  1. Lol, nothing will cause Jerry to realize he’s incompetent.
  2. I’m struggling to see a scenario where we’re competitive only a year from now in ‘25. Even ‘26 is wishful thinking IMO. We have some decent enough pieces in the minors but it’s not like we have a bunch of elite prospects in the pipeline. This isn’t like the last rebuild where you could look at Eloy, Robert, Moncada, etc. and have a basis to think we’d be pretty good in a few years.
  3. Fangraphs had Thorpe and Iriarte as both 50 FV, top 100 prospects. I guess that’s not too bad.
  4. I don’t know, I think a lot of these young extension deals are pretty fair. You’re getting his prime years, and he’s probably at least a 4-5 war guy going forward, with some additional upside since he’s still so young. That’s not a bad deal at all unless he just flops along the way.
  5. Nothing to really complain about with this particular move — basically got the guy for free. It’s more general malaise. Seems like Getz is determined to improve the defense and build from there. We’ll probably lose 100 but play some fundamental baseball, yay!
  6. Bummer, especially to lose him to the Tigers. I know opinions are split on him but there's a reason he's been in such high demand for non-Sox events in recent years. He's really good at his job.
  7. Hey, Getz is totally unqualified and inspires zero confidence, but who knows, there’s a tiny chance he could get in there and actually be good.
  8. The Angels might be the one franchise we can beat in a trade…
  9. Saw him as high as #5 in mocks. Wasn’t expected to slip this far. I don’t know much of anything but I don’t get the hatred.
  10. I’d grade them below OAK — everybody knew they were tanking.
  11. Zavala did nothing wrong. I assume he didn’t even know Cruz was seriously injured, but all he said was what the hell was that. I was expecting way worse.
  12. Clevinger will never pitch for the Sox. Heck, if you want to go that route, just sign Bauer. He's better and already served his time. (Not suggesting we do that either.)
  13. Seems like you’re the one using it to push politics. The post you’re quoting is merely “pushing” some of the great work Liam has done in the local community.
  14. I’m assuming he’ll miss the year. The chemo and everything really takes a toll. If he can somehow get back before then that’s a huge win — in many ways. And hopefully being an athlete in your 30s helps those recovery odds even more.
  15. The length and likely dead money at the end is basically just deferred compensation for his prime years. Also spreads out his salary more for luxury tax purposes.
  16. Eloy's contract the next 2 years is pretty reasonable for a guy with his ceiling. I get the injury concerns, but the fact that he's played only 1 year worth of games in the last 2 is no guarantee that's what the next 2 years will bring, especially if a team has a DH spot and thinks they can keep him healthy. I think he'd have some demand. Seems like they either need to let Abreu walk or find a TB-style trade of young MLBers for Vaughn or Eloy to bring back some MLB-ready talent that is hopefully a better fit and not just another 1B/DH type.
  17. Good post, but I’d like to think we could do better than both of them.
  18. They don’t need to rebuild. They need to cut a little dead weight and then make a few TB-style trades swapping young MLBers to clear the logjam of 1B/DH types for pieces that actually fit. And it would sure help if Colas/Sosa were the answers at RF/2B.
  19. I’m sure they felt some pressure to say something, even if it is just a health issue, given the circumstances.
  20. Leury. It’s shocking he continues to get so many ABs.
  21. Moncada and Robert also received substantial signing bonuses from the Red and White Sox long before their extensions, so if that kind of money was enough to take away their motivation, it sort of already happened long before they even hit the majors.
  22. Maybe there's an argument for that, but if a guy needs that kind of motivation, he's not all that motivated anyway. And it's not like these extensions (especially for Eloy and Robert) were THAT big, they still have second contracts to play for (at age 30 for Eloy and Robert, or 28 if the Sox don't pick up the team options). From a pure value standpoint, if you had a chance to void their deals and cut ties today, the only one you'd even consider is Moncada's. And this year, Eloy is making $7.3M, Robert $6M, and Moncada $13.8M. That's hardly what's holding us back.
  23. We're not even paying any of them that much at this point and would have them anyway extension or not. It sucks that they're not living up to expectations but that has nothing to do with their extensions. The extensions are structured so that the Sox can cut bait before Eloy and Robert get more expensive in a few years anyway, if it comes to that. The only real risk is the prospect of being on the hook for Moncada for $18M next year and $25M the year after if he's still playing like this year. Apart from that, even based on results, they're still not bad contracts.
