  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Unless you're the boss, or the IT guy with the power.. bet your butt your words are being read at will. I definitely agree that is the best, safest assumption to make.
  2. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) does anyone know if the entire lower bowl of the cell is sold out for every game this year? also, does anyone know if you can use the whitesox gift cards to purchase tickets on ticketmaster???? thanks. I found out that gift certificates have to be used at the Sox box office, or by mail, unfortunately.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) Crystal clear in our company handbook that the company has the right to monitor all activity and read anything on their servers. That's their job. For company purposes. But if someone's emails are being read arbitrarily, thats a big old lawsuit waiting to happen. And if they found out their IT guy was weilding his power this way, most companies would not be happy.
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) The line about reading their email was half hearted and half real. I am the security engineer. I perform security investigations on a daily basis. These require the collection and review of email, and I also perform forensic investigations, we also use key loggers to watch traffic, and use network sensors to catpure their conversations. I have assisted law enforcement in this, as a former law enforcement employee. I have testified in court for civil and criminal matters. So I have a firm understanding of what is and what isnt ethical. I was playing a prank on cub fans. Give me a f***ing break. For your sake, I hope there aren't any Sox fans in your office who use this site. Because it would be pretty easy to interpolate who you are, based on your profile information. Your law enforcement experience should tell you that. You are taking a real chance of being found out, my friend, and unless you are boinking the boss, I'm guessing you'd get disciplined or fired for arbitrarily reading emails and screwing with people.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) I also read their email. Dude... you should be more careful than this. Just a friendly idea.
  6. QUOTE(minors @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) I just love it when liberals cry. What are you talking about? Who was crying?
  7. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) What is really great about this post is that that guy is right above your Sasha Cohen sig. Its hypnotic.
  8. QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Ahhh, that's better.
  9. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) So let me get this straight you police your company's internet access but around World Series time you policed everyone but yourself. So even though company time is to be used for company business that policy is enforced by you for everyone but you. Seems to me that this is akin to a police officer busting a dude for selling drugs then turning around and selling them himself. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and yet many here applaud you. It's no wonder we distrust those in power because once we find ourselves in a position of power we often times abuse it also. When the shoe is on the other foot and we have something to gain personally all morals and ethics we claim to have are betrayed. I think perhaps this is a bit over-dramatic. But I do agree that it is childish and petty.
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) Who the hell is that? I was thinking the same thing. ??? He is in the pic above that too.
  11. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) Am I counting wrong? I got one final spot. bench: Owens, Ozuna, Mackowiak, Widger bullpen: Jenks, Hermanson, Politte, Cotts, McCarthy, Bajenaru Okay, so Jeff's not a lock. But still, that's two pitchers left - not a pitcher and a bench guy. I think most people believe Owens is not going to happen - that he will end up starting in AAA to get more playing time. I am not opposed to him getting a shot in ST, because I'm not a huge Anderson fan. But Anderson has pretty much been given the starting CF spot, and most people think Owens will be better served starting at AAA than being a bench guy with the Sox.
  12. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) i worked some girl that thougth the onion was a real newspaper Reminds me of that article that ran in the Onion about Congress wanting a retractable roof stadium, and some Chinese newspaper ran it, thinking it was actual news. That was hilarious.
  13. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) i worked some girl that thougth the onion was a real newspaper You worked her? Must have been fun.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) Looks like Jas made it its own board, and it is now called the Ticket Exchange. Just saw that. Sweet.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Anything else? Please tell me they are moving Swapmeet out of Hotstove and out on its own!
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) It's a tech problem mostly. With landbased phones, the system knows exactly where you are, with this, you could be anywhere. We all log on soxtalk from anywhere in the world. Think of this as the central phone system, even if they look a your IP address, it doesn't tell the whole story. Based on my ISP, I'll bet I show up as Virginia, not Texas. This more closly resembles the early days of cellular and calling 911. Yeah, I am somewhat familiar with the technology. And there are ways to address it - pretty easy ones, actually. For example, when you connect to VOIP, it knows what account you are. You could attach the location information to that account information easily enough. I just hope that happens sooner rather than later.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) Member Maquilla Association I could Google it, but it seems you could provide a better explanation.
  18. I have to apologize - my rant, which led to an issues status discussion with Rex and YASNY and others, has totally muddled this thread. Sorry about that. Good discussions, though.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) This would take a major rewrite of our legal system. From one perspective, a marriage is a legal merger of two entities. They are in most cases now responsiible for and to each other. We would also have to rewrite laws regarding testifying against your spouse. We would have to rewrite a host of laws. Far better IMHO, is making this legal merger just that, a legal merger. Let the Churches handle a religious union, let the government handle the legal stuff. I know its highly unlikely - but that is the way I'd like it to be. In the short run, since marriage is probably a legal fact here to stay, I just don't want to see the Feds do anything to ban a certain type of marriage. I think its hateful and unconstitutional.
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) You're absolutely wrong on this. Yeah, there is a whole lot out there that planes simply can't handle for size and other reasons.
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) Then your saying the states should be able to decide whether or not abortion should be allowed in their states ... or gay marriage? I personally don't think that federal OR state governments should have any place at all in marriage of any kind.
  22. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) I don't think that Democrats are far off from you when it comes to states rights issues. So the Dems would be OK with removing virtually all federal funding from education, putting that entirely on the states? And the Dems think that states should have complete control over their own national guard (which is really a state guard), including the right of refusal to federal mandates for their use overseas?
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) Well, I guess this is one way to make a point. Both bills are assinine.
  24. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) I believe Late Term abortions need to go with the lone exception being the mothers health. How many are performed for other reasons?? We don't know. The pro-life crowd says many, the pro-choice crowd says very few. I can't really find stats on it. I don't know....for me it's just so hard to see all those body parts and think it's not a baby. Here's some pictures(graphic) I just found....they can help put some things into context http://priestsforlife.org/resources/photosbyage/index.htm http://priestsforlife.org/resources/photosassorted/index.htm Graphics aside, I agree about late-term abortions. The only ones that should be allowed are if the mother is in life-threatening danger. In that case, the law has no place - it should remain between mother, family and doctors.
  25. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) Honestly, I think they ought to get booted out of control. I think the Federal government's role is to keep its borders secure - which would mean Port Administration in my book. Rex the protectionist hawk. Who knew?
