  1. He actually had a no hitter going into the 7th inning, here is homepage for intimidators, click on the article about Phillips outing on there. http://www.intimidatorsbaseball.com/
  2. Late report of a Sox signing of one of our draft and follow players in Baseball America this morning. Boone Logan, lhp, Temple (Texas) JC (20th round choice last season)
  3. Would love to see Miles up with us, even if DH. He could play 2nd, too bad he cannot play other positions. Hate moving DJ to SS, but maybe that is what we should do to see what MIles can do.
  4. Good additional comments on Twins. Very astute. Still think people are missing it on Mora, I understand his lack of previous stats, and I do like CLee as well. But Mora is starting to come into his own too and gives us more than just a bat. But enough of my arguing the trade, ain't gonna happen anyway. I respect everyones opinion on Lee and Mora.
  5. Pretty hard to get 'railed' when you are on the DL.
  6. Honel went 7 innings allowing 1 run with 7 Ks and got a no decision. Was 1-1 in 9th, Meaux gave up 2 and Becker hit solo homer in bottom half for a 3-2 loss. Rogowski also homered. Heath Phillips went 8 innings of shutout ball giving up only 3 hits and Kannapolis won 7-0.
  7. Our Almonte is supposed to be a monster prospect?? Since when? He is a borderline major league prospect, and very narrow borderline at that.
  8. You'd rather have Lee than Mora, are you Kenny Williams in real life?
  9. OK, one more comment, hate to hog the thread. I live in Minny and I hate the Twins. But they have such an exciting and fun team to watch. All of them play good to great D, they all run well, they have good pitching with very good bullpen. We can be like that. They laugh at our defense, one guy asked me when we ever had an athletic quick team. I cannot remember, certainly not since JR has been in charge.
  10. I think we need pitching, defense and speed. Runs will come. Gotta start getting rid of all our slugs and start getting athletes. Chisoxfn has right idea in getting athletes like Rivera, Almonte, Mora etc... but need to look at things like Defense and OBP and less at average and power. I just want an exciting team (oh to have a team like we had in early to mid 60s.
  11. Again, Chisoxfn, not trying to be argueative (if that is a friggin word). Just trying to be sensible. Have to remember the other GMs are not idiots. No way Carlos Lee would get us Melvin Mora straight up, and then Almonte for Ponson would be tossed aside like day old newspaper. I agree in trading for more athletic players, Mora is one guy I would love. I would say Orioles would do that trade for Lee or Borchard, Rauch/Wright, and two other high grade prospects, tho they are making a good run of it this year, and probably not willing to trade for future.
  12. Yes, grew up in Bourbonnais and moved up to Rochester, Mn to work for Big Blue 20 years ago. Saluki grad but Illini fan.
  13. 1) Why in the world would Baltimore trade an up and coming all star combo CF/SS and their best starter for a lame ass LF and a reliever who is getting torched in AAA? 2) Erick Almonte just went on DL with possible knee injury, he has a terrible OBP, very overated Yankee prospect. Say no to that deal. We can get more for Colon.
  14. Why is it the Sox get all the lackadaisical players. FT, Durham, Maggs, even when our guys were doing well it seemed they were going half-assed. That is what burns me about this team so much.
  15. I like Hankins, seems like a gamer, clutch hits often, like to see him make it sometime. Also, I like Alvarez, I know he played in majors with Detroit, and he was a very highly liked prospect long ago, so will probably never make it back, but I like him. Like that he and Hankins both walk often, Alvarez is probably a good 1Bman too, since he was 3Bman most of his career.
  16. One bad thing about Durham, 9 CS compared to 8 steals, how can a guy with his supposed speed do that?
  17. I am not one who is in the camp that Hummel can play SS at a big league level. They are playing a non-prospect in Nunez over him in AAA, that tells me as much as what I witnessed. Not trying to disagree, but I also say it is not fair to compare DJ to Eckstein. Hell of a difference in attitude and hustle there that makes up for a lot. No way DJ can play SS as well as Eck. JMHO
  18. Hummel does not have range for SS, I saw him play alot this spring as Jose did not play the first week, so it was Nunez and Hummel. I am not sure I would like him at 2B either, plus I too am very afraid of DJ at SS, do not even care much for his 2B ability.
  19. I saw Borchard real hot, I was there the very first 6 games, he was stinging the ball. Sanders (the LHP) and Wunsch seemed to throw hard. Saw Honel against Schilling in a scrimmage at close view (about only non player or coach on practice field. Webster got only hit off Schilling and Honel did not look too great, neither did West. Had a great time taking in all the games, even went to some Ariz and Rockies games when Sox were out of town. DBacks had much more impressive kids than we did. Webb for one, he was really good.
  20. Morse is a decent prospect, first season he has been hitting consistently, seemed like a wasted pick for a couple seasons. Not sure he is truly a major league SS, might have to move.
  21. Chisoxfn, I thought Sanders looked even worse than Brumbaugh in Tucson. He was not hitting at all the week I was there (and played a lot).
  22. Homer for Morse the only run, was 1-1 after 7 and Bittner in relief gave up some runs to take the loss. McWhirter started.
  23. Parrish did start in AA and AAA for us, did ok. nothing to write home about. Both he and Gload are AAA players, Parrish could make it since LHs mature late. Not a loss.
  24. Tony Sipp, last years 33rd rounder, a LHP and OF did not sign and went to Mississippi Gulf Coast JC and is the 24th rated JC player in this years draft. He was only one of ours in top 50. Others eligible. C Paul Keck, 19th rounder went to Sacramento, Cal JC LHP Boone Logan, last years 20th rounder, went to Temple, Tex JC LHP David Beasley, last years 23rd rounder, went to Broward, Fl JC LHP Jay Marshall, last years 25th rounder, went to Jefferson, Mo JC and was one we wanted and compared to Buehrle, who happened to go to same JC.
  25. Correct, Almonte is struggling, Arnie has been better of late, bet his May ERA is decent. Chisoxfn, I doubt Pacheco throws in mid 90's, guess Rex would know for sure, anyway, whenever they say one of our prospects throws in mid-90s they never do when they arrive :-) I would bet Pacheco is low 90s, but he has been very impressive, last year when we made all those vets for prospects trades, I gave him the least chance to ever make it (besides Adkins). He is making a liar out of me.
