    Top 10 SP Prospects (RH)

I know Kopech has been recovering from TJS for 15 months, but he was a top 20 prospect before his injury and by reports he's still topping out at 102 mph after surgery. There's no reason why he still shouldn't be a top 20 prospect. He has more upside than Mize or Whitley.

People are allowed to be ignorant, as everyone is ignorant on something here or there. The difference between being ignorant and being a scumbag is whether or not you ignore facts and continue to hold the same beliefs after you've been educated on the nuances of a particular subject. I have an invisible disability and it's really hard for people to grasp that. I give others plenty of time to try to grasp it, but eventually if they continue do deny its existence, I can't do anything about it. At that point, people cross the line from just being ignorant to closed minded. If they actively campaign for political candidates that hurt other people or threaten their humanity, then you cross the line from closed minded to scumbag, because at that point you're part of the problem. It's about open-mindedness to other perspectives and experiences on life, and that sometimes, people live a sheltered existence. How much were you exposed to other cultures as a kid has a lot to do with it. I believe a lot of ignorance is based on lack of exposure, and once exposed it changes people's minds, unless you're just an asshole.
  3. I realize that, You gotta pick two out of the 4 that can be done. If Moncada wants to hit FA, by all means there's nothing they can do. But you have to try like hell to keep him around. What's nice is that everyone is spread out. Going through this exercise underscores how important it is that they get the year back from Kopech.

  5. Mazara actually fired Boras a while ago, so it might not be as big of an issue as people thought initially. One thing I've noticed over the years, is that the Sox don't have as good of a reputation for being a great organization for players as they should. Maybe that has to do with their lack of handing out $100M contracts, but most guys who play a long time with the Sox genuinely enjoy being here, and the Sox haven't had a true superstar since the Big Hurt. It remains to be seen whether or not they'll pay up if Moncada/Giolito live up to their prospect billing. Part of the reason why we don't know this is that they haven't developed a superstar player since Hurt. I'm pretty sure that either Moncada, Robert or both are going to be superstars, and I'm pretty sure that either Giolito, Kopech or both are going to be ace quality pitchers. It would do wonders to the league-wide reputation of the White Sox if they paid Moncada and either Giolito or Kopech. I've already resigned myself to the fact that one of those two is leaving. If I had to guess, of any of them get paid by the Sox, it will be Moncada and Giolito because they're up first and extend the competitive window. I can live with Robert and Kopech walking at the end of their team control if all 4 players become superstars. They're going to run into the issue the Cubs have right now with Bryant and Baez, but with the Sox it's going to be on the pitching staff with Giolito and Kopech. Luckily for the Sox, the best player agent in baseball doesn't represent anyone other than Carlos Rodon on the Sox.

I want to both laugh at and love this post This post wins the thread.
  7. It's worth the gamble. Hopefully, it's only a 1 year experiment. They can afford to gamble on Mazara in 2020. They can't afford to in 2021. If it hits, he solves a long-term problem, and wasn't that expensive. If he misses, well..... If I would have had a choice, I would have signed Castellanos/Puig instead of EE and split time between Mazara, Collins and the other RF at DH and Mazara and the other RF in RF. I think EE is a really good DH, but he makes the roster too inflexible. I prefer positional versatility, but that's just me.

Don't you have to be in the tax 5 years in a row to do lose picks? They should still be in the tax four out of every 5 years, and on that 5th year they should be just below it.

Racists are scumbags. Schilling has said a lot of racist shit. Racism isn't fucking subjective. I'm not going to get into this with you, because I already know your stance on the subject. I'm disappointed that in America in 2020, we still have to litigate whether or not racism is bad.

Yeah, when it was iffy whether Fangio was going to go stay with the Bears or not, I specifically remember Hub saying that if Fangio left and they got Pettine it was an upgrade, and the only way possible that it would be. It's obviously 2 years old now so idk if its possible to find that audio.

Hahahahaha. That's where the gopher balls he throws end up. I think the the one that Brad Lidge gave up in the 2005 NLCS to Pujols was recently re-discovered and given an official designation haha.

Mike Pettine would be an upgrade over Pagano and if GB fired him I'd launch Chuck in about 2 seconds to bring him in. Arkush glows about him, and says he's a better DC than Fangio.

FIFY. They CAN spend whatever they want. They just refuse to do so. There are a metric shit ton of pissed off Cub fans. Not to mention that Comcast is playing hardball with them about Marquee Network, and Comcast owns ~45% of the cable market in Chicagoland.

Does it matter to you if they're all enshrined posthumously and nobody gets to give a speech on their behalf? Would that change your mind? If they're not allowed any of the privileges of being a HOFer, does that do anything for you? I personally believe in the lifetime ban as opposed to being permanently ineligible. When the disgraced have passed on, they have paid their debt to baseball for their sins, and can go to the hall of disgraced greats. That's just how I'd run things. It wouldn't even be part of the regular museum, just a separate building on the campus that people can choose to visit or not.

I'm for cheaters and scumbags staying out, but it's incredibly hypocritical when Anson, Cobb and Landis are still in there. My opinion: have a separate wing for the asshats of the game who were still great on the field, but did something to disgrace themselves. IMO the HOF is a museum of baseball history, and that history can't be told without the scumbags. People that go there are the roiders, overt racists and gamblers. Bud Selig belongs there too, for allowing the roiders to get away with it for so long.

    Official 2018-2019 NHL thread

@ptatc There was just an article that Connor McDavid is playing this season with a completely torn PCL. IIRC, there is no good reconstructive surgery for that and a PCL injury ended Brian Urlacher's career. (Different sports, I know) How would a severe PCL injury affect a hockey player and how would it affect longevity? Thanks, Parkman

What would it take to get Nolan Arenado?

I'd trade Madrigal or Vaughn, Dunning and Stiever for Arenado in an instant if they could re-work his contract to have the opt-out removed. If the opt out remains, I'd do Madrigal/Adolfo.

While I agree with you on principle, as long as Cap Anson and Ty Cobb, and Ken Landis(IIRC) remain enshrined, that kind of goes out the window.

Exactamundo. Instead, Konerko is off after one ballot and Jeter is near unanimous because Jankees. I'm not even saying that Jeter isn't a HOF, because he is. He was a great offensive SS. I'm saying the near unanimous vote is ludicrous. Same with Rivera.

He's a damn DH. Jeter actually hurt his team by playing defense. At least at DH you're not hurting your team.

I think his gold gloves are illegitimate. He was a bad shortstop. He had no range whatsoever. He had a significantly negative defensive WAR most years. Jeter won GGs because he was a Jankee hype machine golden boy. He deserves exactly zero gold gloves. Alex Rodriguez was a MUCH better SS than Jeter defensively when they made that trade. Jeter probably had bottom 5 range of any SS in baseball. He made routine plays look spectacular because his range was so awful. Jeter was to the SS position what Frank Thomas was to 1B. (A bit of hyperbole, but you get the picture)
