You don’t have to explain the reasoning. I totally get what you are saying. I’m just saying that over the years, RBI has become its own “word” instead of a collection of letters. Even though we still read it as a collection of letters, it has become a single word. Same with ATM. We don’t say “Hey look, this place has three ATM over there.”

That is different because ATM is automatic teller machine and if you add an S to the end it actually does pluralize it.

ATMs is ok because the last word is the word that gets pluralized. Machine is the main noun.

The difference between RBI, DFA and ATM is that the first letter is the pluralized or tensed form.

That’s exactly my point. If you are reading it as “R” instead of “runs”, then it is fine to put an “s” at the end of RBI.

DFA is always DFA because it's either Designate For Assignment or Designated for Assignment

RBI is always RBI because it's either Run Batted In or Runs Batted in

The acronym has the pluralization/tense built in.

Laser is an example of an acronym that has become a word in and of itself, but I wouldn't go that far with this example.

Adding an S to RBI and an ed to DFA is redundant and unnecessary.

    fight me.

DFA and RBI have become their own words, where you read them as letters, but together the letters make a single “word”.

If you think RBI should never have an “s” after it, then you are always reading it as “runs batted in” instead of “ARE-BE-EYE”. And if that’s the case, then when it’s singular, you would say “he got a RBI” instead of “he got an RBI”, and that would be ridiculous.

It's still "an RBI"  because the letter is R which which is phonetically pronounced "AR". Which begins with a vowel and uses the prefix an.

    An X(ex)

    An M (em)

    An F (ef)

    An R (ar)

    are all proper

I'm not the fuhrer of the grammar nazis, but I'm pretty high up in the ranks lol.

    Huh?

They have no MLB ready LHSP. You'd have to think that they're going to want one.

I'd understand why they wouldn't, but to me it seems like they're the team that would care about handedness in the rotation.

For just Bundy? Or Bundy and Mancini?

    Both.

If they trade for Bundy, that would mean a couple of things:

1a. Their top SP target is either Bumgarner or Keuchel.

    OR

1b. They hate the SP market completely and would rather trade for upgrades there.

    2. Lopez, Dunning or both are on the block

How would everyone feel if the upgrades this winter were:

    SP-Bundy, Keuchel

    RF-Mancini

    C- Grandal

The $30 Million AAV sounds about right, but that 6TH year would be a tough pill to swallow. That would be for his age 37 season. 5 years, $150 Million would be pretty intriguing.

I'm pretty sure the top offer to Strasburg is going to be for 5 years in the $150-165M range.

  7. Just my pet peeve, but the abbreviation should be just DFA. DFA'd means designated for assignmented. It's completely redundant and unnecessary. The past tense is built into the acronym by context.

    Thank you, I'll leave now.

Ja Vol. (meaning I'm a grammar nazi for those that don't get the reference)

Jim has been in charge since 09. His dad died in 09. To say the twins haven’t been in a position to spend since 09 is not accurate. Change in ownership has absolutely nothing to do with the current ball club.

That being said, the Twins are at the peak of their window based on their roster, and I fully expect Falvey and Lavine to make some moves.

It's pretty accurate. Aside from the last 3 seasons the Twins were bottom 5 in baseball for almost the entirety of 2011-16.

? Jim Pohlad has been the owner since 09, and hasn’t handed over anything.

I was talking about his deceased father Carl. Carl was a known cheapskate.

The Twins haven't been in this position since Jim Pohlad took over. The Twins have been nearly as inconsistent as the Sox since 2011.

  10. I will say this, the fact that the tweet specifically mentioned the Twins, makes me think one of two things: Either Wheeler's market is huge and it's going to take time, or it's an agent plant to squeeze a few more dollars out of the Sox, and he's close to signing.

FWIW - at this point, the Twins have just as much flexibility as the Sox.

Plus, this isn't the old man anymore. This is the first time the Twins have been in position to spend since the kids took over. Old man Pohlad was a known cheapskate. We don't know about the kids.

This is just ridiculous. Why would you move a potential stud defensive player in CF to RF?

It sounds ridiculous, but if they can't find a viable RF with a RF arm, and they can get a huge upgrade offensively in CF but the guy has a below average arm, that might be a more economically viable situation. There aren't a lot of decent defensive RF out there.
