Do you think the Orioles will finish the season with a better record than the White Sox?

Hell no, but based on what I've seen so far, they should still lose 100 games. The O's are probably going to be the worst team since the 2003 Tigers.

If the O's played in the ALC and the Sox in the ALE, I'd think it would be close.

However, a lot of individual players are taking steps forward so the Sox could end up with 70-75 wins.

Yes, I watched both. I disagree. I think they gave away game 1 and could have easily won if they had gone for the jugular. They didn't and gave the game away.

Conversely, I think they came back and won the nightcap on timely hitting with a more talented group.

I feel as though talent wise and in terms of their seasonal prospects, the 2019 White Sox are WAY better than the 2019 Orioles.

Remember, the 2003 Detroit Tigers were 8-11 against the 2003 White Sox, but those Tigers won 43 games. The Sox won twice as many - 86. Head to head record doesn't tell the whole story.

No shit sherlock, but the results are still bad. The Sox defense is a fucking joke. The bolded is why yesterday was so frustrating.

We’ve been through this before, but the biggest two issues with Rick Hahn & our front office is it’s unwavering loyalty to key staff and a refusal to adapt quickly enough to the changing tides of the game.  The acquisition of Ivan Nova is a perfect example of both problems.  We have an old school pitching coach who refuses to change his approach amidst the juiced ball era and the Statcast revolution.  Most front offices would either educate such pitching coach on what the new analytics suggest or simply would replace them with someone willing to get with the times.  Rick Hahn, on the other hand, went out and took on Nova’s $9M salary based on some input from Don Cooper.  So far, the results have been disastrous as many of us armchair GMs expected.

Yeah, sinkerballers are no bueno. I saw Nova getting absolutely crushed on sinkers in the bottom of the strike zone. Sinkers=Bad.

I believe they're 5-10 years behind the rest of baseball in their analytics dept. Don Cooper is a relic. He used to be a great pitching coach, but by 2012ish the game had passed him by.

Giolito is a great example, He had a ++ curve when he got here, and Cooper taught him a slider. Now his slider is still a pretty good pitch, but with the way he pitches, his high fastball that he throws by hitters would be better paired with a curve than a slider. Giolito has completely lost the feel for his curveball since learning the slider.

After starting 3-8, the Sox are now 10-7 in the last 17 games against mostly garbage competition.

I think we've handily proven that we are not in the lowest tier of MLB teams (with KC, Miami, Baltimore). Are we in the second lowest tier, or more like a middle tier team?

The next stretch of 24 games is all against better teams and contenders - Toronto, Minnesota, Cleveland, Houston, Boston will tell the story. How do you think we will fare?

My optimistic guess is we will finish that stretch 10-14 and land with a 23-29 record 1/4 of the way through the season. I could see something like 8-16 or 9-15 though. I sincerely doubt we can get much closer to .500 over that stretch.

Did you watch yesterday's doubleheader? They're closer to KC Miami and Baltimore than they are to the rest of baseball. They needed a minor miracle just to salvage a split with the O's, and they split their season series. IIRC they've split with KC and Detroit so far as well.

  5. Fry will be fine. Ruiz needs to go. Was surprised by Bummer. He can stay for now. I would have rather Ruiz and Covey go down, because we need to see if Fulmer is anything. Fulmer can be the long man for the rest of the year.

It so weird to me how willing people are to give him a pass and rag on Kenny. Kenny has overstayed his welcome, but there was a period were Kenny was actually pretty solid.

Yeah, 15 years ago. Kenny hasn't made a good move since the 2007-08 offseason.  Hahn has been bad for a while. Kenny should have been whacked with the conclusion of the 2009 season. Hahn should have been whacked on 7/1/2016. My gripe is and always has been that the guy that wasted Sale, Quintana, Abreu and Eaton shouldn't have been allowed to rebuild this team.

Ozzie quit on the team, b****ed to the media about his contract and salary THAT HE SIGNED and was a revolving door of conflict.

I appreciate the job he did early in his Sox career but he began to believe his press clippings...no thank you.

I seriously cannot believe that people don’t remember how terrible the situation was around Ozzie and his sons in 2009-2011. He’s lucky to even be tangentially involved in Sox business.

This. So much this. As much as I think Ozzie would be a great manager for this group, the chances are zero.
