  1. I hate reading the sports section/watching espn/listening to sports radio after losses, especially bad ones like tuesdays. I hope Gavin can make the bad feelings go away. Ozzie on Murph show right now btw.
  2. Thought I heard on the Score that A-Rod wasn't in today, but I was half asleep so it could have also been something else. Just printed my ticket out (damn I miss my 27-gamer...). There's talk of rain today?
  3. One can find enjoyable characteristics in New York style and Chicago style. Both can be enjoyed. I've already wasted my vacation on a Florida trip set for August, but I really wanted to get to NY this summer. I'd love to see Shea and especially Yankee stadium before they close. I'd also find the time to ride the Coney Island Cyclone, because from all accounts it's ridiculous.
  4. I was gonna argue with the list seeing as it doesn't include any of the garbage rap (you know, those guys who use that techno voice effect, and so on) but then I realized the writer of the list probably doesn't recognize them as legitimate enough to count so I withheld my objections. Besides, theres so many of them you would probably have no trouble filling up a "100 worst" list with rappers whose moniker begins with "Young". What a sad state rap is in today. Seems to me Wu-Tang needs to step back up with a brand new classic to shame the current crop. RIP ODB
  5. Giants found themselves ahead of the Dodgers in the standings but everyone knows that won't be the case in a matter of days, do LAD are ranked above them. When it's this early in the season a teams potential plays a role in where they get ranked. If you want to base it on record then mlb.com has the standings.
  6. Went to the game yesterday. I actually saw some Pirates fans, didn't think those existed. I get the feeling that there are better AAA teams than the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  7. Not happening I know but the Sox picking him up would sell them at least one more 81 game plan (me).
  8. Boston. Be forewarned though, we'll have exactly the same situation the moment the Cubbies win it. It's already been pretty bad coming off a remarkable choke in the '03 NLCS and being swept in last years NLDS. A World Series winner on the North Side would make Cubbies fans unspeakably bad.
  9. Well, there goes my reason to see the Blue Jays when they come to town. I hope he finds a team, and fast. Tampa Bay realistic? I know there was talk of them considering Bonds during the offseason...
  10. I'd rather bat with 8 people than bench Thome and play Owens. In my mind Owens is already wearing another team's colors. When I think of 2007, a few things come to mind. -Owens -Andy Gonzalez If he develops into *anything*, then congrats, pat on the back, etc. I don't wish failure upon him, he just needs to go to some bufu team on the west coast in the NL and stay away. Gonzalez, Cintron, and Owens in the same lineup. It literally gives me a bad feeling in my stomach to think about that. Jerry Owens hitting a 250 foot shot Jerry Owens career slugging % Anything more than a dribbler down the middle of the infield which isn't gloved cause the defenders were playing him wrong and he will have beaten the odds IMO. I think our offense would be better served if we just planted a tree in the batters box instead of having him bat. Quitting baseball and doing track instead would be a solid career move. ...still can't believe we had Owens, Tererro, Cintron AND Gonzalez in the same lineup last year. Is that even legal? Surely if there's rules against killing, raping, or stealing, then there's rules against that lineup.
  11. The first thing to run through my head when Canseco brought up Max and then didn't disclose the details right away was how much money ARod makes, how much he probably values his reputation, and how easily most people can be bought. Besides, aren't there potential legal consequences for admitting that you supplied someone with steroids? I don't see too many people accused of something just 'fess up unless there are things such as reduced sentences or immunity involved.
  12. It's frustrating that they count the games against the Pirates toward their record. Replace Pittsburgh with a Kansas City or Minnesota and you could subtract about 7 W's from their record at season's end. Dropping 2 of 3 to that baseball team (allegedly) was the low point of the season for me.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) Juan just seemed like he was pressing. Glad to see Ramirez get a chance. I think this development is related to Richar coming back up soon. 2b platoon.

  15. Griff with the shot. That's awesome. Lately it seems like every Cub fan I know has been off the hook cocky about their moderate start against the cream of baseballs crop (Pirates, Reds, a busted up Phillies team, and starting tomorrow, the Pirates again).
  16. I could definately see NY missing them but Boston is beginning to remind of cockroaches who just don't go away. I actually want NY to make the cut this year strictly because of the Stadium. *edit* Anyone catch Sean Casey avoid getting picked off at second yesterday? Priceless.
  17. I know Fields switching to 1st has been beaten to death, but if Thome leaves, and Crede somehow does stay, how else would we reasonably facilitate everyone?
  18. I really don't care for Roberts and hope someone else ends up with him. We've got guys coming up that can take over for Juan next year (and even this year if need be). I certainly wouldn't give up Fields for him...
  19. Didn't get to watch much of the game tonight (or any of his ST starts), but I thought I saw him changing his arm angle based on the batter. From reading this board and hearing what Rongey has had to deal with it, I was under the impression that he was almost exclusively sidearm this year. If thats the case, could it have been the difference (other than the O's not being Detroits 1-9)? Jose doing what he did today is just awesome. I knew he had it in him. Don't know if there's anyone on this team I'm pulling for more to do well because of all the chicken littles who throw hissy fits every time he's on the hill. As Detroit proved today, it's still far too early to either start saving for playoff tickets, or blowing money you had saved for playoff tickets on some nice bottles of single barrell Jack. It's been encouraging thus far.
  20. Herb Schneider probably let them know that getting whiplash from turning around so suddenly to see how far it goes wasn't doing them any favors in terms of career longetivity.
  21. Voted no because Frank deserved to end it with the Sox, and I think healthy or not Kenny was set on letting him go. IIRC Jim wasn't exactly the portrait of health before we got him either, and if we went back in time to offseason '05 I would have felt safer about Thomas' health over Thome's. That said, Jim has worked out impeccably for the Sox (production wise we probably haven't missed a beat) and from an attitude standpoint I'll reluctantly agree that we're better off, but only because Thome's among the best you could ask for in a teammate. Acquiring Thome has actually eased the loss of Frank in my mind. Both are towards the end of HOF careers, reached 500 at roughly the same time, and continue to hit the pearl far. We pick up a Sheffield or Teixeira and it would be harder. In summation, sucks that we lost Frank, but Thome's the best consolation prize I could have hoped for.
