  1. Heath really impressed me in his AAA All-Star game. He seemed to have good command and a nice breaking ball. I thought a "poor man's" David Wells, but the book on him is he is a marginal prospect. Still, the guy has done well in AAA (Charlotte is a tough place to pitch) so I am sure he has been scouted by our own people and others.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) I much prefer the Curtis Granderson type leadoff man (similar OBP, similar batting average, but more slugging) to the slap hitting types. Curtis Granderson on this team would be horrible. That's all we need is a center fielder with suspect instincts who strikes out about 180 times a year, and a .350 OBP. And what does he have in steals? EIGHT? I would LOVE to have a slap hitter who could play some good defense, hit near .300, show great plate discipline, handle the bat, and steal a bunch of baess than some glorified 7-hitter like Granderson. Granderson is young and has some nice raw talent and seems like a really good kid, but he sucks as a leadoff man and always will. I don't want "more slugging" from my 1st and 2nd hitters...That's why they make 3, 4, 5, and 6 hitters. Scott Podsednik showed what a brilliant leadoff hitter can do...Pods hit about .290 last year, didn't strike out much, and stole a bunch of bases...that's ALL YOU NEED. It does appears Pods used a lot of gas last year and it'd be wise to think about a replacement (I like a kid named Mike Bourne in the Phillies org, but I doubt we'd get him), but the last thing we need is a free-swinger in a spot where excellent bat control is a necessity.
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) It's just too early to judge still IMHO. Doesn't this EXACTLY remind you of Contreras when we acquired him? NO. Contreras just nibbled too much and didn't trust his talent. Vazquez simply makes too many bad pitches when the pressure gets too great for him.
  4. I am a big fan of Jon Garland. I believe he has a live arm, has multiple good pitches, and when he pitches inside and keeps stuff down he can be really nasty. I like Jon and hope we keep him around a long time.
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) You clearly have never watch Vazquez before this year, or even look at his previous game logs or monthly splits. He is a career .500 pitcher and I've watched him this year...he sucks.
  6. I would not worry about what Ozzie said. If I was a manager of this debacle I would shower KC with praise and then close the door to the locker room and tell the team if they want to get an early start on vacation get after it, because tonight's performance won't cut it. There are some things better left in the clubhouse. Because Ozzie isn't ripping on his own people or thumbing his nose at KC doesn't bother me...Ozzie is just being (get this) classy and respectful. I'm sure this loss has him quite pissed off.
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Well the good news about Javy is that by getting him, we kept McCarthy out of the rotation, got rid of a decent bullpen arm in Vizcaino, and gave up Chris Young, who oh by the way will be a really good everyday outfielder one day. Not like we lost that trade or anything. My biggest complaint was the thing with McCarthy. Brandon McCarthy was INSTRUMENTAL in this team winning it all last year. Anyone remember his performance in Texas? In Boston? Those two starts were works of art...Javy has NEVER pitched as good as Brandon did in those two games. I felt Brandon earned the right to go into the 5-spot...he earned it by slugging through in the 2nd half when El Duque' was going 0 and freaking 8....so we trade Duque...and then get this headcase for a boat load of talent while retarding the progress of a good young pitcher at the same time. I honestly believe Vazquez is a major albatross around this staff's next. He has loser written all over him.
  8. Javy Javy....did we all get fooled by his game in Toronto? The guy is the epitome' of a mediocre pitcher....great one start, terrible the next. Sorry folks, but YOU DONT WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS with people like this. Our other 4? Are starting to GET IT GOING... Jose-brilliant early, injured, struggled, and now seems back as evidenced by his domination of Detroit Garcia-No longer a power pitcher...has morphed into a finese guy and its working. Late in the game against NYY and Detroit he was outstanding Garland-Horrid early in the season, but has sacked up and now just keeps on rolling, solid as a rock. Buehrle-Been a slow rise, but encouraging signs...was abysmal for most of late June and all of July. Evidence suggest he is getting it back together. Most importantly to me? I've seen Jose, Jon, Mark, and Freddy win us a world title...I believe, I trust they will figure things out and they seem to be, but this other guy????? No faith at all. The homer Teahan hit was one of the worst thrown change-ups I've ever seen. Vazquez finds the right moment to totally puke himself.
  9. Javy is great...A true stopper. Go back over the past 6 weeks and find out how many WINS we had where Javy followed them up with LOSSES. I realize the offense was terrible tonight, but Javy wasn't even capable of getting through 6 against these chumps. Pathetic.
  10. Wow. Just wow. If I am Ozzie I would absolutely lose it over this loss....devestating in every sense of the word. Hapless. Our only saving grace is Boston sucks...The Twins are the team Im most worried about in the Wildcard.
  11. What a great sign. Cotts actually wasn't hit hard that inning...Cotts pitched a SCORELESS inning of relief. Neal Cotts did not set the entire MidWest on FIRE and the is playing and its time to jack these turkeys up.
  12. Quick: Who is better? Cotts or Boone Logan?
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) Cotts in to give us no chance. He's clearly the worst pitcher on our roster right now, followed by Garcia and Vazquez. Garcia is nowhere near as crappy as Vazquez....Garcia has no fastball left, but still manages to battle and win...Vazquez, with what we all agree is pretty good stuff, gets blown away by a glorified AAA team tonight. How many WINS has Javy followed up with LOSSES this year? During our miserable 3-9 start in the 2nd half (or whatever it was), Javy followed up AT LEAST two Garland gems with meltdowns. We should deal him as soon as possible...for any damn thing we can get. He stinks and he stinks bad.
  14. Paulie went for it....oh well. Lets try some 9th inning heroics....Crede and AJP are WAY due in this game. I refuse to believe we'll lose a game to Detroit when they are in Boston and we are hosting KC. It simply can't happen.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) Pods is one guy I will not miss next season. I won't miss Vazquez...the guy proved again tonight he's a turd. Dude is the perfect STOPPER.... Kenny is a great GM, but he blew it with that guy although the jury is still out on Chris Young.
  16. Riske very impressive. Now it is time to take care of the situation.
  17. QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) Ok that convinced me Have faith ... have faith.
