  1. topping out at 91 today... got a ton of help by the Athletics' hitters because they were chasing a lot of bad pitches...
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) Mackowiak had the team's best hit yesterday with his hit-and-run rocket. He's a lefty bench player....he probably won't face a lefty pitcher more than 20 times all season. And for all the praising of Pods offense, he did strike out with a runner on 3rd and one out, and then he had the stupid bunt to strand a runner on 3rd as well. THE BALL DIDN'T HIT THE WALL! MLB Hitters need to come through in those situations. I don't care if Mack is facing Randy Johnson in his prime in that situation. You need to make a good effort at trying to get the runner in, and slapping at a ball low and away isn't exactly the best way to do it. You are a major leaguer, f*cking play like it. I know Mack wasn't in the best position to succeed, but you need to have an MLB approach to the plate. Would Dye, Ozuna, or Anderson have been better options? Probably. But that is no excuse for Mack to slap at a pitch low and away. And funny how you bring up Pods bunt, as it was clear it hit him in the Box, and it was a good move by him. I see no way how that was stupid, and if it didn't hit him, he would have likely been safe and Cintron would have scored. Also, I have taken back my statement that the ball hit the wall, but I have yet seen a replay where it shows clearly it didn't. I just re-watched that play a dozen times, and it is almost impossible to tell from the shot they show you. It looks like the ball comes down at a different angle, but it is tough to tell. And it would have taken a perfect throw to have gotten Bradley at the plate. And it was actually a decent throw by Pods. But he threw it too high, obviously. Pods got to the ball quick, and got rid of the ball quickly as well, and he put some good 'umpf' on it as well. The chances that either BA or Erstad throwing out Bradley aren't that great, IMO.
  3. I don't care if Mack should or should not have been batting in that situation. You don't freaking slap at pitches low and away when there are no outs, and you have a runner on 3rd. As a player, you should be able to drive a ball in the outfield. And Mack, who isn't an everyday player, should have taken advantage of getting a start, instead he blows it. He is a MLB hitter, freaking make the play, don't blow it. Don't make freaking excuses for him by saying he shouldn't have been batting. He is getting paid a couple million for mainly his bat and versitility, earn some of that money. And what would Anderson had done instead of Pods? Make a perfect laser throw to throw out Bradley? I doubt it. And after looking at the replays of the final hit, it looks like the ball hit of the wall, then hit pods in the head, because the ball seems to come down at a different angle. So, do you expect Anderson to be able to jump 5 feet to make that catch? And I don't understand all this Pods hate right now, how has he done anything wrong? Mediocre D, which was not expected at first from 'Prancer' and he has been this teams best hitter.
  4. Oh yeah, did that ball hit right off of Pods head, or did it bounce off the top of the wall then hit him in the head? I couldn't tell. And I put no blame on Pods last night, he did everything he could, and has been the best hitter for this team lately. And he has played so-so defense, which is better then expected. Also, Cintron should have been brought in by Mack. Why in the world would you slap at a pitch low and away!?!?!?! Are you F'ing kidding me Mack!? Runner on 3rd, infield in, so you slap at a pitch low and away? I f'ing hate you now! And Uribe, well, I didn't expect anything less then a K in that AB, but he did, in a very lucky way, drive in the only run, so I won't put too much blame on him. And I am not going to blame the ump for blowing that call. I thought it also hit Pods outside the box at first, and it was a tough call. C.B. Bukner called a pretty good, and fair, game all night. I am not going to blame him. Right now I blame Mack and Jenks.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) Kendall sucks....I hope he's playing. I concur
  6. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Lidge if he won't cost too much. He still has the stuff, I think... He does still throw 97-100, right? and does he still have the good curve? I haven't seen him pitch in a while... To me, it sounds like his problems right now are mental, and that maybe a change of scenery would help him out.
  7. hopefully Buehrle will pitch this season like most players in their contract season... great. So starting tonight, earn some money MB! - even though I don't want KW spending 100 billion to re-sign you if you do have a great season.
  8. Leaving Cintron on 3B with no outs was unexcuseable... That cost us the game more than anything else, IMO.
  9. If Bobby can't hit in at least the high 90's come May, then there should be a ton of concern. His stuff isn't good enough where he can get away with a 94 mph fastball. Also, just to let everyone know, I wanted Thornton to get the save oppurtunity last night. I wanted him in to turn around Bradley, hopefully handle Pizza, and then get Chavez. But that was just me.
  10. Just to let everyone know, I updated the results and stats from last nights games. And if you notice, I put asterisks around Gilbert's (Kanny) name. I did this because I am unfamiliar with him, but looking around it looks like he has some potential to be a leadoff guy. Does anyone know anything about him? Good day all around for the minors though. Good pitching, and some good hitting.
  11. Drop Paulino Reynoso, he is practically useless, and I doubt he ever does something worthwhile in the majors... on the other hand, Haigwood does have some potential, and used to be part of the this organization. I would hope KW does the right thing, and says bye-bye to Reynoso, and welcome back Haigwood.
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) uhh..........what other option is there exactly? Well, only 1 or 2, but they are very unlikely. Like maybe he was late on a fastball right down the middle, but I doubt it.
  13. Anyone else have the feeling that the "B" team will be taking the field tomorrow?
  14. I don't know about you guys, but I am starting to get excited, not only for the future, but all these guys preforming well in the minors will make good trade bait! Also, Sweeney is really heating up. Both his homer and double were to LF, so I hope that means he was going with the pitches.

  16. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) nah just tell them you are Yeah... that usually works. Either that, or that I played special teams for the 85 bears.
  17. QUOTE(ROC Sox Fan @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 07:56 PM) The Knights are in town this weekend Friday-Monday, I wouldn't mind getting a chance to see Haeger or Floyd pitch, does anyone know who should be pitching what games? Phillips is pitching today, and Haeger tommorow. Then it is Broadway, I think. So you should se Gavin Floyd on Friday, Vladimar Nunez on Saturady, and Heath Phillips on Sunday... I think.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) I think we should start countdown threads for A-Rod and Manny as well, along with Griffey and Sosa 600 threads, Pedro and Biggio 3000 threads and a Glavin 300 thread. COUNTDOWN THREADS FOR ALL!!! Nah, only cool people get these honors.
  19. man.... I gotta become a professional ball player now... they got a lot of hot blondes it seems.
  20. I noticed there was a Frank Thomas countdown to 500 thread in the MLB forum, but no Thome countdown to 500 thread here... Well, it is time for Thome to get his. Thome is currently at 474. That means he has 26 more to go... Hopefully he gets those 26 more this year, with the 26th hopefully being at the Cell!
  21. but seriously, get Haigwood back... can never have enough young lefties w/ potential.
  22. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 06:33 PM) Whatever the deal with Contreras, I was just glad to see him pitch well last night. We're going to need him to be a major factor this year and with his outing on Opening Day, few of us were optimistic about what kind of season he is going to have. After last night, I feel a bit better about Jose. I know you probably have a good post, but I cant take my eyes off your sig...
  23. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) Haigwood was always a little bit like Liotta to me...he has to have EVERYTHING going right for him to be successful in the big leagues. Well, that may be so, but it is always nice to have a surplus of young lefties, either for trade bait, or maybe they do succeed and go in the rotation/pen. If the Rangers can't find a suitable trade partner for him, and either have to send him to the minors (waivers) or just release him, I would gladly take him.
  24. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) How do we know the divorce isn't deserved? What if Jose was cheating on her? Would you still feel bad for him? /Devil's Advocate. well, he did save her from Cuba... she owes him one.
