  1. Pierre, I think this his 4th year in the league. So, no, we won't get him. My wish list includes the Cabrera-Castillo duo up the middle, resigning Colon or signing Ponson(if the price is right, Millwood too, but I don't think it will be....I don't want him or Livan mainly because they are NL pitchers who have struggled at times in their league....I don't want to even mess around with Turd Ritchie part two), Hawkins/Hasegawa/Rhodes, and then getting a good #5 starter. That's about all I really want in all reality.
  2. Just to correct you(because it is a pet peeve of mine when people misspell people's names; for example some people say Jose Valentine....not much bugs me more then that), it is Cito Gaston, with an 'n'. And no, only a new 3rd base coach will be brought in, from what I am led to believe, unless they feel someone else needs to be relieved of their duties(which I doubt).
  3. The reason a 9 CT time wouldn't work is because it would probably run way, way late. Isn't there a rule that says that a game can't be played after 1:00 AM? I thought I'd heard that before. Anyways, if the Cubs-Marlins played at 9:00, and they had a game similar to last night's game(which was one of the best nights for me in a long time....and I've had some pretty damn cool things happen to me in the past couple months), it could possibly run over that 1:00 AM thing. That would not be a good thing. I just don't know how you'd resolve it.
  4. God that is weird. I cherish 20-30 temps. Here we've already had our hard freeze, and I think it's already gotten down to 23 or so. And I'm seriously expecting it to snow in the next 3 weeks too. Come January, a nice day will be either 5-10 degrees with no cold wind. If it is 15-20, there can be a little wind. And that's not cold. Cold is -20 with winds getting up to 20 mph and the wind chill being about -40. That's nose-falling-off cold right there. You don't wear gloves and a hat in that time, and you are a dumbass. And that ain't even saliva-freezing cold either.
  5. If you read on, he then later said "I'd still rather have Foulke then Koch." In general, Foulke can't get it done in pressure situations, Koch can't get it done AT ALL(a f***ing 3-run homer given up to Carl Crawford when up by 2? What the f*** is that? I would rather have Matt Karchner in then this f***ing guy)
  6. Terry Ryan isn't Gord Ash or for all you KW-haters, KW. He'll retain Shannon Stewart at all costs, even if it means getting rid of Jones or Mohr(which will almost undoubtedly happen). If you don't think that Ryan and the entire front office didn't see that Stewart brought the spark to the Twins that they desperately needed, then you need to open your eyes. I could see Stewart staying there for like $5 mill a year in all actuality. And they won't lose Mientkiewicz. If they get rid of Mientkiewicz, they're dumbasses. Aside from Stewart, he's quite possibly the best all-around hitter on the team. He hits the ball(hit .300 this year), he draws walks, he can hit for some power, he's clutch, and I know he hits sac flies too. This NOT mentioning what he can do defensively. If they get rid of Mientkiewicz, they're dumbasses and should be slapped.....b****slapped by us this season, that is. But I do think Guardado and Hawkins are gone. Atleast one of them is atleast. Hawkins will be asking for $3-5 mill a year, and the Twins won't spend that much on a reliever when Rincon came in and did a damn good job out of the pen this year, and Grant Balfour has some pretty damn good stuff too(good enough to be a solid reliever anyways). And if they need to get a lefty to replace Guardado, they will get one. Cheap lefties about as abundant as cows on a dairy farm. Most of those lefties probably aren't very good though.
  7. I think they just fine tuned it. Also, if anything is added, it's custom soundtracks. I could do that now with Madden, but the XBox's f***ing CD player is broken. It only plays games and dVD's(and I am not going to spend $30 bucks to watch some f***ing movies when I have a VCR in my room....all I give a s*** about is the movie itself, so I don't need to go spend $30 on a DVD attachment and then whatever extra I have to on DVDs. As for who will beat who in the total race....I think this basically tells who is in the lead...but I wouldn't give $720 for that....mainly because I don't have $720, and if I did, I could find better things to use it with. PSX in Japan I personally like my XBox more...faster processor, no need to buy memory cards, and most of the games are just as good(and some better than most, see Halo)
  8. Those goddamn Bills f***ing scared me s***less....goddamn, let's almost lose to the Bengals. Their better this year, but goddamn they should just run over them. The Bills need a bye-week badly. They are obviously playing like s*** right now. I think about the last thing I need to know is that they have the Jets coming up this weekend(who beat them twice last year, one with Testaverde and once with Pennington), Washington(who's playing some damn good football right now), and Kansas City(who is probably the best team in the NFL....they are really f***ing good and all I can hope is that the Bills give them a tough fight). Then it is finally the bye week. Of course, this win against Cinci probably lit a spark in them, they'll probably go into the Jets game, f*** them up, f***ing demolish Washington, and then give KC their first loss of the year in a laugher, the bye-week will slow them down, and they'll lose 3 straight. Just seems to be my luck as a fan.
  9. Ricky Williams career ending torn ACL count-up: 22 more carries, but only 39 yards out of it(great performance Ricky!), which brings his total to 115 on the year. 115 carries through f***ing 4 games? His f***ing knees will be killing him by the end of the year. Whattya bet Ricky's doing that little Jam Session that Jamal Anderson is doing now(or has done in the past atleast) on ESPN in 3 years with 2 torn ACLs? If Miami keeps giving him about 29 carries a game, then his knees are shot now. If they get into the playoffs somehow, and Ricky carries the ball somwhere between 400-450 times, they will be a non-factor. Ricky's in great shape, but no one's knees can handle that many carries. Call it a hunch, but the fact that he went from 248 carries in 2000 to 313 carries in 01 to 383 carries last year has taken its toll on him....and its showing this year. But what's Miami do and put more stress on those knees. Dumbasses. I think the head coach probably has something to do with that. Good luck the rest of the way though.
  10. I read it in an XBox magazine(found it at Barnes & Noble, and I mainly bought it cuz there was a demo disc included), and it will be sold with Vice City in a double pack. Also, check here(if you want proof)....though if your computer is slow as s*** like mine, I would suggest not and just taking my word for it. It's run with shockwave I think, and with my slow ass processor, it is a pain in the ass to get it up. GTA for XBox hits shelves in early November(I think November 4th it said) Link me
  11. BTW roman/soxplosion, what exactly is your definition of cold? 20-30 degrees?
  12. I'm not so sure. I think the player on the kicking team has to have control of the ball to down it. There was a play a couple of weeks ago, either in the Vikings-Packers game, or the Vikings-Lions game, not sure, where that thing happened. Some player on the kicking team(not the Vikings) touched the ball as it bounced towards the Vikings returner, he then touched it, and the kicking team recovered it. It was given to the kicking team, but was then reviewed by Tice, and was overruled, and it was the Vikings ball because as soon as the kicking team touches it, it is the returning team's ball no matter what happens. However, if the kicking team does not have control of it, the return team can return it still. Not sure if the kicking team can still pick up a fumble and recover it if the return team fumbles it after the kicking team touches it but does not gain control of it. That I'd have to look up. That kind of thing rarely happens and that is why it is a fuzzy area, as you called it, and for obvious reasons. If something doesn't happen often, there's a good chance something like this will happen.
  13. Too bad that, in reality, is the WRONG Sox1
  14. Maggs had good numbers overall this year....something like .315 30 100. But you remember that he makes $9 mill, and those numbers become s***. If a guy is going to be making $9 mill, I'm going to want him to put up .325 35 120 numbers at the very LEAST. He makes $14 mill next year. What I want out of a guy that makes $14 mill is either a guy who takes huge strides FORWARD(which he did not do this year....he took a stride backwards....in 02, he hit like .320 40 135 approximately....he had nothing CLOSE to that this year). If we can get anything decent for Maggs this year on the trading market(and we will), Maggs will NOT be on the White Sox roster next year. Also, for Konerko, if Baltimore is somewhat interested, talk to them. If LA is somewhat interested, talk to them. And if they both want Konerko....let them fight for him, get the best offer you can, and accept it. Notice I said the best offer and not the offer where we can shed the most payroll. If LA wants to give us Shawn Green and Paul Lo Duca, do it....we ain't cutting payroll(in fact, we are adding it), but we would be improving the team tenfold. Maggs is as good as gone....and I hope Konerko is gone too. Lets not forget Maggs lack of clutch hitting and propensity for hitting into DPs. DPs dont count as two outs on their BA.................but its still 2 outs. I love Maggs. Would i pay this guy 14 mil or add more balance to our roster? Give me the balance. EXACTLY If we get rid of Maggs without having to take on much of his salary, and because of it, we can sign Cabrera and Castillo/Alomar, and then maybe a cheaper RFer such as Reggie Sanders, and possibly even a good reliever or two such as Hawkins, Hasegawa, Rhodes, Foulke, or Gordon, or using that extra money to ensure Colon stays, and our money is well spent. Some of those guys might be possibilities but Foulke would never come back here. They treated him like crap enough here im pretty sure. Tragically our ownership doens't understand karma....or good management for that matter. I do agree. I was just throwing some names out there, and I really didn't feel like putting Antonio Osuna's name on the list, so I figured I'd go with a different Sox reliever who's going to be a FA next year that is in the playoffs this year.
  15. I personally feel differently. It's just a dump that needs to be torn down, IMO. Lots of history, no doubt, but I don't understand why that kind of history needs to be kept. I mean, a history of losing is never fun for anyone....just ask me, I'm a White Sox AND Bills fan. I know the meaning of the word heartbreak as well as anyone here.
  16. I got one question What if Thomas accepts his $6 mill option(which I think he will)? What happens to your lineup then?
  17. Uh, I hate to do this, but DUH he's not the answer. I hope that doesn't come off mean or anything, but almost everyone knows the White Sox by now...always settle for 2nd best. They'll be Colon Jr. in the offseason, but Ponson will not be Bartolo Colon. I figure if we do get him, he'll have decent stats.
  18. He won't. He's already burned many bridges with the fans two times....1 time for being pro-strike in 94 when his team had a great shot at winning it all, and another in 97 for the famous white-flag trade. I don't think with him getting some actual profit this year and that quite a bit of people actually showed up(I think the attendance overall was just under 2 mill for the year) along with the increase in ticket price that he'll literally lower the payroll.
  19. Konerko makes $8 mill, Maggs makes $14 mill. We'll have to take on atleast some of Konerko's salary if traded, so we are looking at dumping $7 mill for Konerko and dumping $14 mill(and possibly more) in getting rid of Maggs. For Konerko, they best you are most likely going to get is a decent prospect or two and a fringe prospect or two as well. For Maggs, you could get quite a bit....possibly one of the real good relievers in Anaheim, Amezaga(their up-coming SS), and another arm or two as well, OR some good arms from that LA bullpen, Cezar Izturis, and if we got real lucky, possibly Dave Roberts as well, OR we might be able to swing a trade with San Fran where we get Grissom, their most expensive reliever, and a decent prospect from SF, OR we might be able to get Juan Rivera, Nick Johnson, and maybe Jon Lieber from NY, OR Melvin Mora, Damian Moss, Luis Matos, and Jerry Hairston Jr from Baltimore....there are almost endless possibilities. I think the only teams you can rule out are all the teams from the AL Central(with the exception of Cleveland), Tampa, Texas, Oakland, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Montral, Milwaukee, Cincinatti, St. Louis, and Colorado. That leaves you with about half the teams who might take on Maggs(though some are highly unlikely...Seattle probably won't, nor will Toronto....you can probably add Florida, Pittsburgh, and possibly San Diego to that list too). There would be a lot of teams interested in Maggs, and we could get a hell of a lot for him. Not only that, but because it would free up so much room, there's a possibility that we up Bart's offer from $10 mill a year to $13 mill a year and we still have $11 more mill to work with(or possibly more, depending on how much Colon will make in this first year if we hypothetically sign him), and that leaves us with that much extra money to sign other FA's. I would much, much rather trade Maggs. I like to think about what the Sox are going to do this year rather then worry about what they will do in 05 and 06, etc. If a move makes the team better in the short run and doesn't necessarily hurt them in the long run(like for example, trading for Alomar and Everett....sure it hurt the minor league system, but that doesn't mean that we are in bad shape....we have a decent minor league system, and there is always someone available via trade, FA, or by the minor league system if a need arises). Doesn't matter in this scenario....trading Maggs helps us this year(meaning 04), next year, and possibly even come 07, 08, and 09 too.
  20. I think they play Minnesota too. Minnesota looks somewhat decent this year.....they came back and beat Northwestern - not that Northwestern is a real powerhouse or anything - but it was a 14 point deficit that they came back from, and apparently their rushing attack is pretty good, and after they gave up those 14 points, they outscored Northwestern 42-3 over the last 3 quarters. 42 points in 3 quarters is pretty goddamn good. I think Ohio State is in deep s***. They have some tough games in the next few weeks, and if they survive those, they might be banged up so much so that going into Michigan that they just get stomped by Michigan.
  21. Is it OK for me to nominate the entire Chicago White Sox offense, minus Carlos Lee, or is that a no? If not....I'll just vote for Billy Koch(because I voted other)
  22. She's trying to be a dumbass. Apparently, she's doing a pretty good job of it. Anyways, I hope the gift I had the Braves give you was good enough. Happy B-day. Look at it this way....atleast the Sox didn't lose on your b-day like they did so many others on here!
  23. Tejada should have kept running, you're both right, but that is a TERRIBLE call by the umping crew. It's going to be a bang-bang play at the plate, and it should not matter whether Tejada is safe or not. The judgment call there is that he could be safe OR out. Stopping and whining didn't help, but the fact that Boston got an obstruction call like that earlier in a less obvious incident is just terrible. Anyone remember game 2 or 5 of the Twins-A's ALDS last year where Tejada flipped the ball to Ellis, Ellis caught it, and in the exchange from glove to hand, dropped it? The runner at 2nd was out and was not given 2B because Ellis dropped the ball. Later in that same game, Rivas and Guzman were turning a DP. Rivas flipped to Guzman, Guzman just flat out dropped the ball, but because that same lost-in-exchange call was made earlier in the game, the umps HAD to call it the same for both teams, because that's the way it appeared for both teams. That should have happened here, but did not. I don't think it matters though....I think Hudson will come out, pitch decently, Burkett will get drilled for about 3 or 4, and the A's bullpen will beat the Red Sox bullpen, and the A's win 5-3 and move on to the ALCS where they'll rekindle their rivalry with the Yankees.
  24. Whatever we do, we need to add speed and defense, along with some left handed bats..............Maybe these Einsteins will one day figure out you CANT win in the playoffs just by bashing the ball. Look at the Giants and Braves. Errors are killing them. Look at the Redsox. Six runs a game? Not in the playoffs. You win by pitching, defense, speed, timely hitting, and having the drive to win at all costs. The sox arent even close. I hate to do this, because it kills me inside, but if you want a great example, look no further then about 8 miles north from the Cell. They are 1 game away from becoming the first Chicago team since 1917 to win a playoff series PERIOD....why? Pitching, defense, and timely hitting....along with a little speed too.
