  1. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) No, the question was about funding for special needs kids, not the teen mothers housing question. She dramatically cut programs for special needs schools. I mean, a LOT. Actual budget figures, all approx: Pre-Palin FY2007 budget: FY2005 Actual: $6.9 mil FY2006 Plan: $7.9 mil FY2007 Governor: $8.3 mil Palin's FY2008 budget: FY2006 Actual: $7.9 mil FY2007 Plan: $3.2 mil FY2008 Governor: $3.2 mil 2007: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/07_OMB/budg...ED/comp2735.pdf 2008: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/08_OMB/budg...ED/comp2735.pdf The FY2009 budget is more of the same: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/09_omb/budg...ED/comp2735.pdf So you are basically 100% wrong. Being in the position she's now in, as the parent of a child with special needs, I wonder if she'd still feel so great about making those cuts. She'll do herself in over time. The media is a fickle friend, and she's only in the beginning stages of that "friendship".
  2. QUOTE (Soxy @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) I doubt that the fact that Palin has a child with Downs Syndrome will affect voting patterns of disability rights people. I vaguely remember Biden being involved with the ADA, right? Quite the opposite. I have a daugher who was born with Down Syndrome, and am involved with a few different support groups in our area. In one of the groups, it seems that I'm in the minority of folks (possibly the only one) who thinks that she's allowing the party to exploit him by making an issue of it. Come on, he's not a circus freak that we're paying to see! He's a child, albeit one with special needs; why make such a huge issue of it (IMHO)? But they're all gushing over it, saying how wonderful it could be. No thanks--I don't agree with using a child like that. Also, maybe if she'd been more supportive of sex ed in her home state, her 16-yr old might not be preggers at the moment. This is directly from page 20 of the 63-page vetting posted earlier in the thread:
  3. I really dislike it when a campaign allows Kaie Couric to interview their candidate.
  4. Apparently, Katie hasn't read one of Oprah's favorite books, "The Secret". lol Couric, this one's for you:
  5. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 01:13 AM) One word....beagle Love my beagle, too. Charlie is 1 1/2 yrs, and full of smiles and energy. Great with my kids (and one of which was born with special needs). Once you make it through the first year or so, they're great. But, take the advice of the others and go to a shelter. Or try www.petfinder.com--you can do a search for beagles that might be available locally. If you do decide to get one from a breeder instead, make sure they're reputable.

  9. I guess Kermit the frog was right. It's not easy being green!
  10. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) Come on. Doesn't she know how difficult life on the streets can be? These kids have no choice. Their communities give them no hope. The government gives them no assistance. This is the life they were all born to live thanks to our greedy society. I sure hope that was sarcasm that I read, there, Jenks. I know it sounds very cliche', but where there's a will, there's a way. EVERY person has the opportunity to make a better life for themselves in this country. They just have to want it, and be willing to work hard for it...legally. In my area, the "system" seems to recycle those families who don't have the drive or desire to do more for themselves right back into the "system". Very few have the drive and desire to make it out, but those that do are phenomenal individuals who give a tremendous amount back, and try to make a difference in the lives of others in an effort to change the "system".

  12. Just found this site on a quick google search. It's worth a look: www.tonyisdead.com Nice blog, discussions, etc.
  13. Here's to the wise Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Elaine Rushing.
  14. QUOTE(knightni @ May 10, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) It's all about the money. Cash=influence=change in the direction of where the cash came from. Simple Politics 101. So true...soooo true.
  15. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 10, 2007 -> 12:21 PM) Welcome to SoxTalk, btw. Thanks for the warm welcome.
  16. QUOTE(Soxy @ May 10, 2007 -> 12:14 PM) This is not a question people on a message board can answer. Which party do you agree with more ideologically? At this point, I'm really not sure anymore. I'll most likely stay a dem...but on a very local level, the party is rotten.
  17. I have a daughter with Down's Syndrome, and I can, in some ways, understand what these parents have done. While I don't agree with what they have done completely, I can understand why they would not want her to ever be able to conceive a child. After all, it would most likely be born with a disability (most likely more severe), and who would provide care for the child? I have not had to look into any of this for my own daughter yet, but have considered having a tubal ligation or similar procedure performed prior to her 18th birthday to prevent pregnancy for her. It's not an easy decision, but until you've been a parent to a child with a disability, you may not fully understand their actions.
  18. Following a long, hard local mayoral campaign, I was disappointed that my candidate did not win, and am now starting to rethink my party affiliation. So, educate me...why should I stay a Dem, rather than move over to the Republican side?
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 9, 2007 -> 11:12 PM) http://www.nbc5.com/politics/13288631/deta...l=headlineclick This is the same man who said he wouldn't have been born without the 1965 march in Selma, Alabama. Too bad he was born in 1961. Keep being the cool, young, and black candidate that everybody has to love because he's those 3 things, and try to talk as little as possible, Barack. The more you speak, the more we learn. And that part of your campaign is not going well. Maybe he and Al Gore created the internet together?
