  2. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 04:05 AM) I stayed at the Palmer House in 2004, the last time I was in Chicago. I got it on Priceline for $72/night. I thought the room in the hotel was pretty ordinary. Not much special at all. However, the lobby/street level was awesome. Very nice, old with intricate detail. The location was solid as well. I enjoyed my stay but the room itself was not as nice as the Westin Michigan Ave or the W Hotel (near the Sears Tower). Both of those hotels have beds that are among the most comfortable I have slept in. Enjoy your stay, get out and explore a little. This site will be a huge help to you as far as public transportation. It has maps, schedules, etc. http://www.transitchicago.com/ Guys, thanks for all your feedback/info transitchicago.com was a big help as well really enjoyed the weekend sans the games themselves but it was a great experience used the L-buses to get around with no problem also got to go to al's-paradise pup-whites palace-giardanos and generally just see the sights of chicago the Palmer House was nice as well thanks again!
  3. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 05:34 AM) I recommend Priceline. My parents just stayed at the Hotel Sax for $126/night and loved the location. They took buses and the EL everywhere and needed to take a cab. If you are visiting downtown Chicago I do recommend a 3-day visitor pass for transportation. You can use it unlimited for 72 hours on all trains and buses. it costs like $12 each and is worth it for the convenience alone. You can get them at www.transitchicago.com. I've always had good luck with Priceline. Have stayed at the Westin Michigan Ave, the Crowne Plaza and the Midland Hotel (it was being converted to the W Chicago near the Sears tower) all for less than $100/night. Gotta do the name your own price thing though. Be careful to know your areas though. Rex, thanks for the advise, I booked with Priceline and have reservations at the Palmer House Hilton for the weekend Dont know much about the public transp there, hope to be able to take the ell or buses around the city thanks for your longtime reports on the barons as well, I certainly appreciate the info..
  4. First of all let me say I enjoy Sox Talks topics almost every day but rarely post wife and I are coming to Chicago this week, will be going to the UC for Joel Osteen on Fri 18th then to the Cell for the game on the 19th Can anyone tell me a nice motel such as Holiday Inn Express (or something that won't break the bank) that might be somewhere in between? Also i'd like to visit the Paradise Pup or the White Palace Diner Do they have good Itialian Beef and Polish? Any help from you all would be appreciated Thanks
  5. I have KY license plate SOX on my Linc LS..
  6. I live in KY and obviously Comcast blacks-out all Sox games As a Sox fan for many years i'd like to know if there is any way out-of-market subscribers like myself would be able to purchase any other type of package that would allow me to actually see the games??
  7. my family and I were there for the weekend also 220 club level met some nice reds fans who just shook their heads and had some very nice things to say about our club and legions of fans as well wouldn't have missed it!
  8. soxtalkers im going to soxfest on friday and I need your assistance driving in from southern ky i do not know where the hyatt is located what is the best place to stay nearby? what about Italian beef and Polish Sausages? where is the best place in the area? sox fan since 1960, look foreward to meeting some of you I rarely post but read your info each day of the year thanks for your help
  9. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) Since when? while I agree the Eyre is no "prize" if early returns are any indication, kenny must be willing to strike quickly if he hopes to secure players he is truly interested in obtaining this off-season
  10. the last time i posted was about an hour before game #1 vs seattle in 2000 I read and look foreward to all (most) of your posts each and every day of the year living in kentucky since I moved from Chicago in the 60's it has not been easy over the years to keep up with my beloved sox other than struggling with my am radio each night as a die-hard loyal White Sox fan since 1960, I can truly say this is the greatest sports moment of my life thanks to all soxtalk posters, i feel as though you (we) are all truly a kindred spirit thanks to all the sox players-coaches and managment for giving us such a thrill its much more than I ever hoped for or dreamed it certainly was worth the wait
  11. guys i am certainly no expert just a 40 year baseball fan... but what i can tell you is this.. i live in central ky and have seen webster play three games in lexington this year.. he is a nice player with considerable potential, but little pop in his bat (at this point) defensively, he is above average, but i have seen better i would be suprised if he ever does much in the big show, of course he could develop.. rupe was obviously their best pitcher on an otherwise weak pitching staff.. saw kohlmeier pitch a nice game in louisville tonight (3-2) and look foreward to watching the double-header saturday night
  12. we must consider one of the greatest cumulative staffs in the history of baseball.. rich wortham, ross baumgarten, ken kravec, chris knapp and jim otten with closer "bugs" moran in the pen.. that was legendary
  13. cluger and steff, it is indeed sad what has happened to griff's career as he continues to sustain injury after injury... i too loved watching him play and cursed him as well when he would beat us on a consistant basis with some amazing hit or catch.. but as far as the steroid issue i was involved in bodybuilding for about 15 years, took several rounds of them myself the only way they might/will effect injuries of this nature is if you attempt to do too much because you feel that you are able to do so... but it alone does not make you more susceptible to injuries alone... hope he can get things righted in time to salvage what was once one of the greatest.. living in central ky, i go to see the reds every now and then and this makes me feel sorry for their fans as well
  14. thanks for the info jimH-ldf and rex one more thing if i stay in bridgeport or clearing would i be able to bus all the way to the cell or would i need to drive? also any more restaurants in the burbs for real chicago food that nobody thought of yesterday?? dont want to be a bother, i just need to know where to go and how to get there!!
  15. im really glad theres a topic on this right now, cause i need some help also im going to chicago weekend after next when the sox are home to the devil rays i grew up in clearing many years ago (eating donjo's pizza on 63rd between clearing and argo) i want to visit that area, but will also be going to visit a sick uncle in brideport or bridgeview of course ill be going to the game on saturday night, but i have no idea where to stay etc all this talk about chi-pizza and italian beef sandwiches is driving me crazy!! also does anyone know if tours of chicago are available, my daughter has never been there and i would like to show her the sites without driving downtown i certainly appreciate your expertise
