  1. The Intimidators gave up a home run to a 23-year-old with 32 home runs in the SAL. What on earth are the Rockies doing hold a guy down so long that he can hit 32 homers with a team? The guy was drafted in 2017 no less. This would be like the White Sox letting Laz Rivera hit .360 in Kannapolis for a whole season and not promoting him.

    Jeremy Reed

He never quite that much praise on the national level, but man, the dude hit .409 in AA with a 1.065 OPS and a damn fine strikeout rate. I never truly understood why he wasn't better in the majors. He truly was a AAAA player. Couldn't even make it as a serviceable fourth outfielder.

I think next year Call, Booker and Remillard get pushed to Charlotte to make room for Gonzalez,  Robert and possibly Rutherford to join Basabe at Birmingham. That's going to be one hell of a defensive OF!

I could see Call moving up and Remillard repeating Winston-Salem. They could even have Adolfo repeat Winston-Salem to have him play bit more (plus he would be coming back from injury). Booker can be the fourth guy behind Robert, Rutherford and Basabe.

  4. I rank Burdi highest. I love Hamilton's fastball plus control of it, but I'm not sold on his secondary stuff. I'm curious how his stuff will hold up in the bigs. From the two or three times I've watched him pitch he's very heavy fastball in his pitch selection.

  5. Wayne did this the other day:

I think MLS is finding a better balance of getting the older stars and some young up and coming talent. Atlanta is loaded with South American studs in the front half of their 20s. Meanwhile, Zlatan has been terrific on the field and Rooney did this.

I think it's important to do both, even at this stage of MLS. Maybe another player can make the play Rooney did on this play, but it's only getting a fraction of the attention if it's not Wayne Rooney. Get a big name star, make sure he has something left in the tank, and get the younger players around him. Getting those guys is like having a multiplier on your marketing. MLS isn't established enough (even 20+ years in) to turn that kind of stuff down.

There's still a lot of things that frustrate me with MLS (mostly the complicated cap structure), but I don't think bringing in guys like Schweinsteiger, Zlatan and Rooney is a problem. Just do the rest of the roster better and it's not a problem.

Read the next post. I'm not saying he forgets how to hit as soon as he stops focusing on it. I'm saying the work he's putting in to improve on defense is taxing, he's learning what it takes to be a professional catcher, and it's affecting his offense.

I think that's a weak excuse for a guy who has shown red flags as a hitter before.

Here's my interpretation of Collins year.

He was focusing a lot on defense and didn't care about offense, but it got so bad early that he was allowed to focus on offense more for a bit (this was in an article). I think once he proved to himself he could hit he went back to focusing on improving defense.

This is nonsense. Just because you're not working on offense in your practice time doesn't mean you immediately get worse. There has to be retention.

Alfaro is on fire in GF. 3-4, 2B tonight

I noticed that too. He's still just 20. The Sox must have seen something in him because they had him in Arizona 3 years ago at 17. Finally getting some production to go with it.

On the pitching side, last good pick was Gio Gonzalez. The the positional side, you have to go back to Ryan Sweeney or Chris Young.

On a side note, boy I thought the 2006 draft was awful for us, but luckily Hector Santiago was the saving grace. 2012 is hands down our worst draft since 2000, 2015 could also be on its way to being historically bad. Others in contention are the 2000 and 2009 draft.

    Chris Carter?

I hope they push him to Great Falls before the season is over. If they do there would probably be a good chance he could be in full season ball next year.

I don't think Great Falls is a requirement. I would think there's a good chance he starts the year in Kanny just because he's been so good in Arizona. If he struggles for a couple months, they might send him to Great Falls in the summer.

    Two words.

    Courtney Hawkins.

Hawkins went to Bristol in the Appy League, which was the lower rookie team for the White Sox at the time. He didn't do as well as Bush is: .272/.314/.401. The walks weren't there, the power wasn't there either oddly (that came when he got promoted to Kanny for some reason) and he was already striking out in nearly a quarter of his plate appearances. Granted, the Appy League probably fits somewhere between the Arizona League and the Pioneer League for Great Falls, but Hawkins isn't doing what Bush is.

I get that you're preaching patience and restraint, but for now Bush is ahead of what Hawkins was doing at this stage. We'll see if it lasts.

Hansen has now pitched in 35.2 innings. He has 43 walks to go with 35 strikeouts.

Good news is he is still getting strikeouts and he isn't giving up a ton of hits either. It looks like the stuff is still there. Control, especially when it's this bad, can be fixable. My guess is that it's injury related, more likely mental that he doesn't trust it yet.

I wonder how Carlos Perez is defensively because he's mastered A pitching

He's had a great month, but he was awful in May and June and has a sub .700 OPS on the season. Definitely hasn't "mastered" A pitching.

The dude is 18 years old. Give him a little respect despite his league. It's not like he's in the pee wee hermin league

I said he's been terrific. That's definitely respect. Just saying rookie league is a terrible predictor of future success.

Bryce Bush with a hit to start the game. He's been on fire since being assigned.

He's been terrific. It's only Arizona, so a LONG way to go before he's even considered a top prospect. But for now, he's looking like a late round steal.

Just couldn’t get invested in this tournament. No US and time zone had a lot to do with it. Oh well. Bring on the new cycle.

Crazy that you couldn't get into this tournament. If you gave it a chance it would have pulled you in. Not being able to watch the US be awful and maybe squeak out of the group stage shouldn't affect watching the rest of the tournament. I admit it tampered my excitement going in, but once the games started, this tournament was terrific.

I just started Detroit: Become Human and fuck is it beautiful. I don't even have a PS4 Pro, and yet it's still the best looking game I've ever played. Watchdogs 2 was probably the bar before this one.

Detroit was solid. I think a lot of the talk around it has been somewhat negative, which is a bit harsh. The story does fall apart in places, but it's still enjoyable. Unfortunately, the best part of the game is the first part, which they demoed the hell out of. I was more or less happy with my ending so I didn't feel compelled to replay the whole game, but I did replay a few parts towards the end to see what would happen. Some of the plot lines get more and more absurd. I guess it depends on how it played out for you.

If Watchdogs 2 was your previous bar for best looking games, there's plenty of stuff that tops that. Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Uncharted 4. I'd probably even include Assassin's Creed: Origins in that list. Then you've got amazing racing games that are starting to create legitimately photo realistic cars (Driveclub, Gran Turismo Sport, anything Forza).
