  1. if there is any deal for Torres, I would think it might involve Crochet and either Kelly or Graveman.
  2. Adam Duvall would appear to be the best available option, unless Arizona is willing to trade K Marte for something we could afford. Either would require "Scrooge" to open up his wallet. Duvall
  3. There is really only one alternative in resolving this position and his name is Benintendi. The guy is a gold glove LF, who hits for average and gets on base. He is far superior to Joey Gallo (the strikeout machine), and probably has some kind of relationship with Grifol. He would be an ideal #2 hitter in our lineup.
  4. For my money it is still on Reinsdorf. This guy led the group that bought the White Sox in 1981 for $19 million; today the franchise is valued at $1.8 billion. And yet he continues to cry poor and act as if he is in Kansas City rather than the third largest city in America. He blackmailed the state into building him a new stadium (where attendance the first 3 years averaged 2.7 million), then led the lockout in 1994, which antagonized all of the fans and probably cost the White Sox a chance at both the pennant and World Series. He then wondered why attendance fell off for the next 10 years, until the 2005 world champs. This year, for all his supposed crying about attendance, the mediocre ball club drew over 2 million people, the first time they hit that number since 2011. This is the guy who let Dave Dombrowski walk in favor of Hawk Harrelson. It is the guy who fired Larry Himes, who only drafted Jack McDowell, Robin Ventura, Frank Thomas and Alex Fernandez in consecutive years, as well as trading for Wilson Alvarez and Sammy Sosa. Reinsdorf is the same guy who put Hahn in a can't win situation by keeping Kenny Williams around. And then, the brilliant move of overriding his GM by bringing La Russa in. Hahn is not a good GM, but the problem is Reinsdorf. Forty years of him is the same penance White Sox fans had to endure between the 1919 Black Sox and the 1959 AL champs. Sell the team!!!
  5. Who the hell plays SS when Tim is gone? Romy Gonzalez? Leury? I do not understand wanting to trade Tim. He is far from perfect, but he is definitely an above average shortstop. Montgomery may or may not be ready next year.
  6. Liam Hendriks is not going to the Braves. They already have Iglesias. If anybody is going to the Braves, it would be Timmy. They are losing Swanson. What about Timmy for Grissom and one of their catchers? We then sign Nimmo.
  7. I have the Sox at $170M, then add 6.5M for Harrison and Pollack buyouts. Add Benintendi at $14M and we would be at $191M, still wondering about a 2Bman and assuming Colas is on the team.
  8. Braves losing Swanson. Have Grissom already in place for Albies. Makes more sense for them than it does for us.
  9. My feeling is Jerry might increase the payroll as this window begins to close. How about Benintendi at $14M and Rodon at $20M? That would give us a payroll of about $207M, keeping Mendick and Sosa/Gonzalez for 2B, with Colas replacing Sheets in May. I know Rodon is very unrealistic, but it seems like we could swing that financially. We would ultimately have Robert, Benintendi, Colas and Pollack for primary OF's, giving us much better defense. Anyway you cut it, though - any real improvement has to come from Grandal and Moncada
  10. Thought I saw somewhere that he might be, and that Mookie Betts would move to second. Not use about that, but the question to the forum is: Would the Dodgers consider trading Lux for Hendriks? Lux is a LHH and would be an excellent addition IMO. Thoughts?
  11. I think our best and most realistic offer would have to include Vaughn, since there are very few teams who would be able to offer a young and proven hitter like him. We would have to include pitching as well, and that would mean either Vera or Kopech. Add Colas and Montgomery (which I believe is way too much), and I would think our offer would be attractive. As others have already stated, the value of the prospects is strictly up to the Nats' scouting people. But I would think that Vaughn, Kopech, and either Colas or Montgomery would be actively considered by them and would be competitive with other offers. This would leave us hoping for Eloy to show he belongs in the bigs, for us to extend Abreu, and for us to find at least one starter.
  12. Has anyone seen any update? I thought he was going in for a detailed exam yesterday.
  13. They probably bailed on trying to match or better the SD offer when they determined that they could not work out an extension deal with Boras and therefore refused to give up requested pieces for one year of Manaea.
  14. They traded away their 1B and 3B. could get both of those positions filled with guys who are cheap, have major league experience, and have lots of potential.
  15. Remember: The last time we had an "AJP" we were World Series champs!
  16. Ironically the Sox played some of their best baseball without those two.
  17. FWIW - Do you think Reinsdorf has put a limit on what the Sox would offer Conforto not because he is averse to spending more than what Grandal got, but strictly because he will not make Conforto the highest paid White Sox player ever with this guy being unvaccinated??
  18. Don't you think that statements from Hahn at this point are merely tactics in an effort to create some market confusion? If the Sox want any of the top RF free agents they have to deal with Boras. If additionally they want to trade with either Cincy or Oakland for a starting pitcher, they would want to make statements that inflate the value of their own players - likewise with Kimbrel.
  19. If the Sox acquire another starter - Manaea?? - there is no room for another BP arm as long as the roster limit is 26. That assumes trading Kimbrel and having to keep Keuchel.
  20. Free agent 2B's: Second Basemen Hanser Alberto (29) Matt Carpenter (36) Brandon Drury (29) Marwin Gonzalez (33) Josh Harrison (34) Jose Iglesias (32) Jed Lowrie (38) Chris Owings (30) Joe Panik (31) Eric Sogard (36) Donovan Solano (34) Pat Valaika (29)
  21. Am still dreaming of acquiring either Jeff McNeil from the Mets or Adam Frazier from San Diego for Kimbrel, signing Conforto and Tepera, then trading prospects (Burger, Lambert) to Oakland for Manaea. I believe Arizona will only trade Marte if the deal includes pitching, which I am not certain we can address to their liking.
  22. On Gibson and Kennedy: Gibson is signed through 2022 and would be a replacement for Rodon. Kennedy would be an ideal late inning RH RP. Having Gibson would allow us to go to a 6 man rotation during the stretch run and decide who will be the best three starters going in to the playoffs.
  23. How about Gibson and Kennedy from Texas for Sheets, Kelly and one of Mercedes, Lambert or Heuer?
  24. I wonder if the Sox are planning on the September roster expansion along with Robert and Grandal coming back. That would mean keeping Burger and Sheets in September, as well as having (hopefully) Robert and Grandal back.
