  1. I'm worried about the Royals every year. Fans of teams outside the AL Central always assumed the Royals were an easy stat-padder team the rest of the teams in the division beat up on 19 times a year but even though they lost a lot you never could just show upand beat them. You had to play. They've been a pain in the ass team for a while now. For the sake of their city and fanbase and the sweet park they play in I want them to do well but I damn sure don't want to lose to them.
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) On March 26th, I proposed "Clean Campaign '08" on my BarackObama blog and my personal website. Well, McCain was just on Hardball and Matthews asked if he'd do what I proposed in my writing (I am not saying he ever saw my blog, but the ideas he asked him were exactly the same). McCain agreed. ROCK ON! Come on Obama. Join the Clean Campaign '08 bandwagon! McCain, by himself, has never really struck me as a dirty politician, and it seems like he's run a pretty clean campaign so far. What you'd have to worry about is the rank-and-file GOP, they love to fight and McCain doesn't really have control over them. Although they'd be more motivated by hate for Obama than love for McCain (Hillary doesn't really count, she's already a divisive figure).
  3. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 06:20 PM) IMO you have to look at it as a whole, and not the fragmented parts. Actually to me that kind of sounds like an argument against the electoral college (I'm assuming you want to keep it like it is).
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Well, let's just do away with the ENTIRE SENATE if we need to vote by "popular vote". That's why in some of the parliamentary systems, we see prime ministers win with 20% of the vote. No thank you, I like our system just fine. Don't forget the Senate angle when you're talking about doing away with the electoral college system, because that's where the balance is in this whole argument. They have more than 2 political parties more often than not if I'm not mistaken, and they aren't locked into this one-or-the-other system like we have.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) This WaPo piece touches on one of those trends worth noting...the U.S. really has done very little to address the refugee situation/crisis in Iraq, where something like 3+ million people have been forced from their former homes. In that vacuum, the biggest group that has stepped in to take care of people has been the Al Mahdi Army, which has built good will with those people by providing them with homes, sometimes money, and so on, sometimes in exchange for service. I think this is noteworthy because it was exactly this sort of situation which helped Hamas gain a big electoral victory in the Gaza strip...the government wasn't really taking care of the people, that group was, and they wound up showing up strongly in elections. We didn't really capitalize on that when we had the chance to in Afghanistan in the late 80s, either. Granted that was a different situation but things like that matter, just ask some random guy in Lebanon his opinion on Hizballah.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) Putting money towards a 4 year deal for Crede really doesn't make the team that much younger. Whereas not putting money towards a 4 year deal for Crede gets you the 4-5 years younger Josh Fields. Plus, I know this is the negative thread and all, but the Sox really aren't that old anymore. Fields, Swisher, Richar, Ramirez, Quentin, Anderson, Owens - none of those guys can really be considered "old" and all of them are with the club for several more years either at a really cheap price, or a below-market price.
  7. QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 08:11 AM) I was talking yesterday with someone who is a super delegate, and in his mind, the "mission" is to get a Democrat elected President. They should, after analyzing and careful thought, vote for that candidate. They have a separate, independent, vote, and that is how they should vote, with their conscious as a guide. If they are suppose to just vote for whom another group voted for, they could drop the entire super delegate concept and just use the primaries. He would not mention who he is voting for, but my guess would be Hillary. Here's a question, for those that think they are duty bound to go with the person who received the most primary votes, would that be in your state, county, or district? If you are an elected official for a county and Candidate 1 won your county, but lost your state, who would you vote for? They should drop the superdelegate BS IMO. It's undemocratic, and the Dems actually have the better system with the proportional representation without it.
  8. QUOTE (max power @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:51 PM) This doesn't surprise me. These finesse pitchers own us on the regular. Thank the baseball gods we don't have to face Mark Buehrle, we'd risk getting no-hit every time he was out there.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:47 PM) Horrible game...Swisher was the only player to show up tonight. MacDougal and Ramirez need to get sent down, and bring up Wasserman and find a lefty for the bench. You do realize that would be Owens since Richar isn't here.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Brian Anderson to run? Is Ozuna still not healthy? Anderson really isn't slow. I mean I guess Ozuna is faster but I don't think he is right now.
  11. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) ROFL. Little kids throwing out F Bombs at the poor guy. hahahaha Which guy?
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) Weird managing...this is where Linebrink should be coming in. I just don't really like the idea of Linebrink's arm falling off though. He can't be covering for MacDougal all year at this rate.
  13. Is anybody else oddly relieved by the fact that we got through Thome already for the bottom of the 9th?
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:25 PM) I heard someone say he was filthy When he's on, and when he has command of his pitches, he does. Right now, he doesn't have s*** and he's a waste of a roster spot.
  15. QUOTE (max power @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:18 PM) MacDougal has been good so far this year. minor fix
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:15 PM) PH BA You joke, but I almost would feel better about that if it happened.
  17. QUOTE (max power @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) This bulls game is ridiculous. They have 120 points at the end of the 3rd. I had to double check that to make sure we were talking about the same Bulls. They have 7 guys in double figures.
  18. Negotiation is an interrogation technique in and of itself. So is "tea and donuts" actually. If that's what works, and that's getting you information, you do it. Even if it means buddying up to the terrorist and playing Xbox 360 with him.
  19. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) And to say that just because someone is a career .300 hitter in the minors doesn't make him an all-star second baseman either. "Obviously I'm not comparing Richar to A-Rod" Come on now. you're making me break this down to the very lowest level when I shouldn't have to and putting words in my mouth to boot. Richar's always had good hitting tools and flashed some of them in the majors despite his low batting average (which is common). The odds are still pretty good that they will project to the majors and the upside is still there. Or at least they are still higher than the odds he will continue to be a Juan Uribe-type offensive player.
  20. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) So it's alright for you to be sarcastic, but no one else can? No, just that if you're going to make a point and call somebody out, it has to hold water. To tell me that there is a possibility a propsect will flame out in the majors is to tell me nothing.
  21. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) Picking a fight??? Hardly "dude", merely invalidating your post like you did to the other fellow. You invalidated my post with non-existent logic that didn't have much to do (or had very little to do) with my point, which was that expecting someone's career numbers to look like their first experience of MLB pitching is just the wrong way to think. You responded in the same sarcastic tone I was using by saying "well anybody can fail." Well, duh. And?
  22. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) Yeah dude, because everybody who hits .300 for their career in the minors goes on to have excellent careers in the majors. Was there a point to this post or are you just picking a fight?
  23. QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) yup beacause it's still early and we all know Richar will save this team with his .230 Avg Yeah dude, because everybody who hits nearly .300 for their career in the minors and then hits .230 in their first 200 MLB plate appearances is going to hit .230 forever, and is never going to get better. I'm glad for Alex Rodriguez they didn't judge him using that criteria too because his first 200 PA's looked about the same as Richar's, but we all know what happened after that. Obviously I'm not comparing Richar to A-Rod but not everybody comes into MLB screaming like Ken Griffey Jr., you know.
