  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) Second...if you want movies to be made that portray a war in a positive light, we should stop getting involved in these disastrous occupations we keep doing. Afghanistan is/was perfectly ok by me. Until we blew it and now we can't keep enough troops there.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) Polanco's a big batter in this game....a 2 out hit would give Tigers a ton of momentum. Until the bottom half of the inning when we face one of their relievers again.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) Nothing against Quentin, but I really hope Anderson makes the decision hard on everyone. As do I... I said it earlier in this thread.
  4. Finish this sentence... "...over the head of Jenks, Uribe charges, throws..."
  5. It would be nice to see Anderson have a good day and complicate the OF situation even more, that would give a lot of extra fuel to the anti-Owens crowd too.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) Republican's call Republican change in opinion a "change f mind". They then call a Democrat change in opinion a "flip-flop" I defended McCain on going against the status quo until he started trying to make up phantom reasons for doing it that sounded more acceptable to the far right.
  7. McCain really isn't in any place to be calling anyone else a flip-flopper fwiw. I mean cmon Mr. "Wait I don't like these tax cuts [giving a good reason for voting against them btw]... oh... wait hold on Republicans aren't trying to hear that... yay, go tax cuts [and while I'm at it I will change my original reason for voting against it because it sounds better and say I've come around]"
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) I believe the exact point that I'm trying to make is that believing something is "the sissy" thing is entirely the problem, because the evidence out there shows that is by far the most effective method for extracting correct information from the prisoner. Not really. I hear so many people talking about it, basically implying it's a black and white issue when it's really not. It's almost completely gray. I mean, where do you draw the line? What is torture? What isn't? If nobody wants to define it then we'll just have interrogators sitting in a room with a real, live terrorist and unable to do anything besides sitting and talking to them without even doing anything that could be considered "aggressive" like raising their voice. The other extreme is just completely allowing everything. Let me put it this way, if the average American saw what goes on in some legal interrogations without having any idea of the circumstances or context their reaction would be something like "omg that is soooo mean we shouldn't do that."
  9. What kind of torture are we talking about btw? Blindfolding someone and beating the s*** out of someone with rubber hoses and then the next day tying their nipples to a car battery just because? I think there's just about a consensus on that kind of torture being wrong. If we're talking about aggressive but legal interrogations where the sissy definition of torture basically outlaws all useful tools in the interrogator's box except sitting in front of them and talking in a calm voice, I pretty much have to disagree strongly there.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) Even though it resulted in a Sox player being pummelled, I have to vote for Ventura's charge on Nolan Ryan. I find it hilarious that when I loaded up this page, from the outside I saw the last topic "Best White Sox Brawl" and the last one to post in it is coincidentally a guy named robinventura23.
  11. So Contreras vs. Willis? I'm setting the over/under at total runs scored before the end of the 5th inning at 19.5. Any takers?
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) I know this speech wasn't made by a president, but one of my all time favorite speeches was Gen. Douglas Macarthur's farewell speech (the one to congress, not westpoint)... "old soldiers never die, they just fade away." Well speaking of speeches by generals how bout Patton's "no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country, he won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his." Seriously we need to exhume his corpse, resurrect him, and clone him a few times.
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) I have no problem with people thinking we should end the war in Iraq, etc, and gradually make our way back home... But, IMO, it would be utter stupidity to completely withdraw all troops within 6 months or whatever Hillary wants. Obama hasn't really said what he would do yet though, but it would be something in the lines of withdraw I imagine. I agree in principle, but I really wonder if Hillary is going to do that. Remember, she lies, a LOT, and she desperately wants to get elected. But who knows, it's hard to see if she really understands. Obama's a little more open to doing things different, he talks a lot about withdrawal but he talks about the need to stay on AQ too and he says if there are drastic changes he reserves the right as commander in chief to change his plans. McCain wants to be a pure extension of the last 5 years, for better or worse.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 05:33 AM) What films would those be? Yeah I second this question. Got movies like Blackhawk Down, We Were Soldiers, Saving Private Ryan, and then on TV we get shows like Over There (as fake and overdramatized as it is) and Baghdad ER that make our troops look like saints and heroes. I can't think of one anti-American movie or TV show, the idiots in Berkeley don't make movies.
  15. Iran is pretty much going to have its say on its neighbor whether it's on our terms or not. Hell, they are pretty much already backing the military of the government that's supposed to be our ally already. It's just flat-out impossible to ignore the Iranians when it comes to Iraq, there's no way around it and it's better diplomacy than another war. The only potential saving grace there is that the Persians and Babylonians have pretty much never gotten along for the past, oh, 3000 years or so.
  16. There are some staunch Democrats in the military but generally speaking it's overwhelmingly Republican and that's probably not going to change anytime this generation either.
  17. If it was a guarantee that Joe's back wouldn't be a problem in the future (like, say, the way a broken leg or a torn ACL heals) and of course if he wasn't a Boras client I would have no qualms about bringing Joe back. But that's not the case.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 08:10 AM) Well that explains a lot of his problems... That's too bad. I really wanted to see this kid rebuilt and succeed. Its sad but being a Rule V draft pick might have actually ruined his career. I think if he stays in the minors, gets his innings, masters his release point, gets his repititions etc, he really develops into a tough starter. The kid just never got any consistancy, because he was bouncing around the bullpens instead. It's ironic, because the whole point of the Rule V draft is to spread the opportunities around and let someone's career move where it would've been blocked.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) Also still had Thorton pitching when Mac was in. Yahoo's even worse, they have Brian Bass pitching for the Sox right now against Gomez.
  20. Ugh Gameday is several minutes behind, as if I wasn't already questioning why I was still watching this game.
  21. An outstanding defensive CF who can put up a .333 average and a .1000 OPS has tons of value so trade Anderson right now for a top of the rotation guy.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) BA making a statement. That statement is... "I don't suck, I belong on a MLB roster, honestly"
  23. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) take swisher out ozzie and let brian play, you douchebag :/ There you go... lol. GJ Brian
  24. QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Cabrera started off slow last year. Finished with with .300 avergae and 86 rbi Also happened to be the highest BA in his career... expect something more like .280/.320
  25. We need to go ahead and score these runs now. I don't want to see the Twins bullpen.
