  1. QUOTE(Elgin Slim @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) I post here because I don't like the fact that when I post anything negative about the Sox at WSI I get told to go to Addison and Clark. that and some of them are such draconian Goderators, I couldn't stand it anymore. This site is sooo much better and I'm actually allowed to have the occasional disagreement/mild argument with another poster without getting banned. I've been kind of resisting the urge to say that on here for a while.
  2. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) Wasn't everyone talking about the new leaf that BA showed in Spring Training? It would be nice to see him get at least an at-bat today. People talk about BA's bad attitude last season - but I can kind of understand that. You're told that you have to play for your job in the spring and you do. You play well enough to deserve the spot and you're left to rot. For weeks, hardly getting more than a couple spot at-bats each week. It's like you know the cards are stacked against you before you get on the field, or at bat. I just hope that this time around there is good communication between BA and Oz about the plan for him this year, and the plan isn't just to let him rot. And if the plan is a BA trade come midseason, playing time might actually make him palatable to another team. I wanted him to play coming out of ST this season too, but the difference between this season is that if Anderson gets stuck on the bench, the players playing ahead of him don't suck and aren't useless. A certain someone would've made a really good 4th OF on this team but noo... anyway, that's water under the bridge.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) I understand things change when the team is doing well versus doing poorly, but look at the board over the off season, ZERO games played, and people were still negative. And keeping topics in proper threads is something that needs to be done. But I swear you could start a thread about the corn fields of Dekalb and three posts later there would be a Crede / Fields debate going. That almost made me spit my cereal out onto my keyboard laughing, ain't that the truth. If it isn't that, there is another polarizing argument for Chicago fans (Brian Anderson, Rex Grossman, et. al.). And they all seem to infect every thread somehow. I got myself to stop hating on Uribe for a while by watching the bottom of the 9th of Game 4 again a couple days ago. "Over the head of Jenks... Uribe, charges, throws... OUT! And the White Sox have won the World Series!" That makes me feel so much better about him.
  4. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) Of course they're not. Then again, it's really easy for a 34-year-old outfielder to pull a calf or hamstring in cool weather. The fact that you say that actually reminds me that JD did that last year and then tried to hide it and play through it which was why he sucked last year.
  5. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) I never said it wasn't. But do you really want to run an aging JD out there 155 times this season? I don't. I agree that Dye and Thome could use some time off now and then to stay fresh since we appear to have the depth. I just thought it was kinda ridiculous to put catching and RF on the same level is all.
  6. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) 2006 was what, 2 seasons ago? Are people not allowed to develop? Jesus christ, what a horrible argument for being against BA. Plus it really isn't fair to hold someone's numbers their first couple of months after getting called up against them... Alex Rodriguez didn't do much of anything (.224 BA) his first 65 games after getting called up for those 2 years. Then when he got a full-time job he hit .358 and we know the rest. Obviously I'm not comparing Alex Rodriguez to Brian Anderson, but only saying... yeah... players develop.
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) Yeah, AJ and Toby Hall aren't diving after line drives. Come on now. Catching is by far the most physically demanding position on the field and there is no close second. This is common knowledge.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) May. He'll probably have to rehab for 2 weeks or so in AAA. I can't wait for Richar to come back... I'm pretty high on that guy right now.
  9. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) i don't get the love for brian anderson. he greatly disapointed me in years past. he always seemed to be ecstatic just being in the big leagues. he wasn't very professional and might be the worst hitter that I can remember. i mean he stunk up the joint. the only reasons why i can see some calling for anderson is based on #'s he put up in spring training or because he is the only natural centerfielder on the roster right now. Carolos Quentin-Nick Swisher-Jermaine Dye That's nice, real nice. I don't think you fix what isn't broken. He was disappointing in one half of one year. Granted he was severely disappointing but that was 2 years ago. He's admitted he wanted to be in the big leagues without putting in all the work to be a good player at the big league level (close to his exact words) and that since then he's changed his outlook and attitude, and done a lot of work on his mechanics. His awful swing, which was his #1 problem, looks completely different now and he offers more than just hope that he can actually hit MLB pitching now. However, with that being said, it just kind of sucks to be Anderson right now. Quentin is hot, Swisher is a franchise player now, and Dye is Dye.
  10. It was a decent article until the last sentence. There's a couple non-facts in there but doesn't say anything completely ridiculous like the OP has.
  11. QUOTE(knightni @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 02:08 AM) I'm not willing to hand Danks the crown of bonafide #3 starter just yet. Let's see how his new pitches go over the second time around the league. I have this feeling that the more opponents see of him, the more adjustments that they will make. I had a really good feeling about Danks last year and I was never as worried about him as a lot of people here were. He has good enough stuff, and he has the right mental makeup so that even if they're hitting off him, he just keeps giving it to them until he's done, and will forget about it the next day just like Buehrle. Last year he was just missing another off-speed pitch, so teams would figure him out after they saw his pitch arsenal but now that he has this cutter, that's a pretty big deal. He can really control a game now in a way he couldn't do in his rookie year.
  12. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) Seriously, I think Anderson is just never going to be given a fair shot. I think I'm finally going to let go and find another manlove. Would Mark Bradley or Mike Brown on the Bears do? Those are mine
  13. Verlander had some good games against us last year but that had more to do with the fact that we sucked really bad.
  14. Ideally, I'd wish the leadoff hitter was fast, but the rest of this team is so slow I don't even care.
  15. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) Obviously I meant Danks. Yeah I assumed that's what you meant. Danks is Baby Buehrle anyway though.
  16. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 11:06 PM) Tough to find anything wrong about today's game. You take Inge out of the Tigers lineup, and Floyd has a shut out. Hell, I feel Floyd was taken out too early, but I guess it's early in the season. Going into this season, most people were worried about Buehrle and Floyd. While I was worried about those two as well, I was mainly worried about Contreras and Buehrle. If Floyd and Danks can develop into a good 1-2 punch, I feel much better about this season... and the future. Jenks low velocity still scares me, but with his variety of pitches and usually good location, he should get by for the most part. Huh? Who the hell was worried about Buehrle?
  17. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) the thing this year...is that our sunday lineup...as long as it doesnt have toby hall...doesnt seem to be that big of a downgrade Oh how I HATED last year's Sunday lineups.
  18. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 06:06 PM) Based on his spring training, I never would have guessed Dye would start the year so hot. Especially because he usually never starts the year hot.
  19. Could use some insurance from Thome-Konerko-Dye right now.
  20. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) How did Thomas not get to 2 on that? Scared of Quentin's arm apparently.
  21. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) It should be good enough from your 5th starter at league minimum. One terrible, terrible pitch to Inge. Yeah if this is how he's going to pitch for the rest of the season against weaker lineups, we're not really in that bad of shape, he just really needs to be better than Contreras.
  22. QUOTE(G&T @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 05:17 PM) So how has Floyd pitched so far anyway? He could be better, but it really hasn't been that bad.
  23. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) renteria was running on the pitch...pudge lined out to quentin...and quentin gunned renteria out at 1b from LF From LF? Holy **** that's awesome, something you'd expect from Vlad Guerrero... lol
