  1. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) DJ just said Cabera is not a base stealing threat a Turtle is a base stealing threat against Jose I was watching them play in Baltimore once last year and I saw a runner go against Contreras, and he got thrown out. And I think Toby Hall was catching, to add insult to injury. I politely suggested that guy kill himself to preserve his honor.
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) Contreras was better than him for the second half of 2005 and in 2006. What does last year have to do with this year? Do you really want me to answer this? I can't come up with anything to say that wouldn't be dripping with sarcasm. I don't think I can.
  3. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) I'm kind of oblivoius to RISP now, I'm so used to seeing it from the Sox in my lifetime that I don't notice it anymore. :| The Sox don't hit with RISP, they just bash the ball and whoever happens to be on scores. "Small ball" is a myth.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) If one outing is enough to say Contreras is done, and Buerhle did significantly worse, he must be done as well. Yeah I guess that makes perfect sense considering Buehrle sucked so bad last year.
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Who is going to take Buerhle's place? What are you talking about?
  6. QUOTE(Linnwood @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) (4+7)/4= 2.75 lol I was exaggerating but not by much. God that is HORRIBLE, cut it in half and it's still meh.
  7. QUOTE(Bhay99 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) Well come on, you can't have your prime time .230 hitter just sitting on the bench for a guy who can actually play defense. Since when can Uribe not play defense?
  8. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) lost fan was mentioning yesterday how Ivan only walked 9 times last year - DJ just repeated that stat...well done lost The guy will have a full count and foul off a pitch out of the zone... he refuses to walk.
  9. Last time I recall seeing Jose pitch in Detroit, he put the first 3 of the game on and gave up a grand slam... so my fingers are crossed.
  10. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) yeah it very well could be the trainers...i know the guys over at baseball prospectus think herm schneider is the best trainer in the league. they definitely do something right, along with a little bit of luck probably... because we have been unbelievably healthy over the years With the notable exception of the best hitter in White Sox history and one with the worst luck, unfortunately. Pods and Erstad don't count.
  11. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) ill bet clete thomas kills us today...following in the footsteps of ryan rayburn, marcus thames and mike hessman as unheralded tigers who kill us Speaking of unhearalded players, I'm pretty sure the Tigers hate seeing Crede bat at Comerica, he's looked like damn Babe Ruth for the past couple of years, even last year when he sucked everywhere else he hit .250 there and had a .857 OPS.
  12. QUOTE(iamshack @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) It's interesting to watch, but the Tigers have been sort of shadowing what the White Sox have done the past few years...I predicted in about June of last season that the Tigers would collapse in the second half just as the 06' White Sox did. Could they possibly follow the White Sox again and be terrible this season? It would be hilarious and poetic if the Tigers ended up hitting very well, but not well enough to fend off the Royals who overtake them and stay ahead of them all season. They'd have some understanding of how we felt in '06.
  13. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) Agreed. Also keep in mind that Danks was acquired when Buehrle's long-term status with the Sox was up in the air. Kenny most likely wanted to acquire another LHSP, just in case. I liked what I saw from Danks during the first half of last year and am chalking up his decline over the second half to a lack of arm conditioning. I think that he'll eventually be a really solid #2. What's better than having Mark Buehrle in your rotation? Having 2 Mark Buehrles in your rotation.
  14. I never really had a problem with this since it seemed an even trade to me. Yeah I had started believing all of KW's hype about McCarthy but we got the lefty equivalent in return so I wasn't worried, and seeing McCarthy get lit up to start '07 calmed down any real concerns I had. I was scratching my head about the Garcia trade, not this one.
  15. I'll start putting stock into whatever those things say when it's October.
  16. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 07:35 AM) See, the funny thing about that is Owens CAN'T play CF. He is pretty much a league-average CF. To say he is terrible out there is just plain hyperbole. His only real knock on him is his arm, and that's what keeps him from being able to separate himself from being average.
  17. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 06:43 AM) Get that context outta here! It's all about quote-mining and taking sound bytes to completely change the meaning of what he said. I bow my head in shame. Hey, at least I had the decency to pull the quote from a site that was criticizing him.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) He took a lot of money from them and didn't perform well at all. A lot of that was just beyond his control, he played hurt a lot and when he wasn't he never fit in, it was all about LeBron so I think it's pretty unfair to boo him. I know he was a major disappointment there (lol www.heylarryhughespleasestoptakingsomanybadshots.com) but IMO he couldn't have been anywhere nearly as bad as Wallace was for us... yeah, we booed him pretty bad. But I think when you factor in his effort, production, and contract, he is the worst player in the NBA.
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) The city of Cleveland wins boner of the week award for booing Jim Thome They were booing Larry Hughes tonight too for some reason. What the hell did he ever do to Cleveland to earn that? However, it made me feel better to see Ben Wallace miss another easy layup and the crowd groaned.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) Of his caliber? He's the 7th hitter, and once Granderson gets healthy, he'll be the 8th or 9th hitter in the lineup with Inge getting bumped to the bench. He's not a real good player anymore, and he does have a s***ty OBP, but he does make up for that somewhat by hitting at a decent clip. Juan Uribe hits .230-.240, and that's why people are upset with him. All I'm saying is you'd expect someone who is eventually going to the Hall of Fame to be drawing more than 9 walks a year.
  21. QUOTE(southsidehawkeye @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) yeah, not sure why I included his name there. He was a good bat on the bench. I think my mind must have just starting listing the guys we got rid of... however, I stand by the overall message of my post. I think that with the additions made and our players hopefully not collectively having some of their worst offensive years will lead to more runs scored in 2008. Yeah, your basic point still does stand. We had a lot of guys that sucked really bad and were AAA players or fringe bench players at best starting a lot of games last year.
  22. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) well, over a full season, Crede from 05 might be better then the production we got out of 3B from last year. But even so, it's closer to equal then anything else... plus, there's the question as to whether he can actually hit his weight this season. If Uribe could hit his weight he'd be a MVP wouldn't he?
  23. Also it's not like the GI bill doesn't already exist and isn't available to all vets that want it.
