QUOTE(Vance Law @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) What I want to know is, why the hell was Buehrle the starter over Masset. Masset clearly is a lot better.
  2. QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) No way to justify it? Let's say tomorrow we have an opening day like last year's where our SP goes 1 1/3 innings and gives up 7...given a bullpen with Wasserman instead of Masset, who do you go with? Do you literally play everyone in the bullpen? Ruin your bullpen for the better part of a week? Yes, based on last year, Wasserman is a better pitcher. Give me one inning and I want him over Masset any time. But he's not capable of long relief. It's just that simple. You wouldn't play Konerko at second base because he's incapable of playing there, so why is everyone arguing that Wasserman be a long guy? If you want to argue the merits of Wasserman over MacDougal, that's fine. Or if you want to be mad that Kenny didn't set us up with a better long reliever, that's also fine. I just don't see how there's any argument over whether or not we need someone who can pitch 3 or 4 innings in our pen. We do. We just do. Holy s*** that is just plain eerie, I didn't read this until just now. lol

I feel pretty confident that Dotel will settle down, as of now anyway. I think Masset will come crashing back to earth.
  4. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 07:42 PM) It did look like that. But the scouting on Ramirez is that he is a great fastball hitter, maybe he was a bit nervous about first MLB game or was looking for off -speed stuff too much. I hope that's what it was. Cuz he looked like .5 seconds too late on every fastball, and it'd either blow past his bat, or he'd just stand there.
  5. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) from Rolling stone. Yeah, that one. Nobody would read it though b/c they were just like "oh it's just another anti-Bush piece." No. It's not. It's a pretty serious problem actually, got billions of dollars just bleeding out profusely and nobody is paying attention.
  6. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) I'm sure it's been posted already... but Ramirez at 2nd and Anderson in CF seems like a good idea. I'm not sure if I'm the only one that was thinking this, but watching Ramirez, he just looked overmatched against CC, those fastballs were blowing right by him. If anything, Anderson def. should've been starting in CF, and Ramirez over Uribe if he had to be in the lineup... Uribe looked BRUTAL at the plate, as usual, before finally making contact on that double. Saw him ahead on a 2-0 count and he waved at the next 3 up and out of the zone, after already striking out twice. ugh.
  7. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) NY Times has had a pretty awful couple of years but props on getting this story. I wish someone would write a huge collective story on the contract mess that, for me, has defined Iraq. On the old Fans GB81 actually posted a pretty long one last summer.
  8. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) Well, since the man is holding the black people down, and the man controls the money, and the man would therefor be the one affected by the raise in income tax and capital gains tax he wants, and since the man is typically white, then there is your answer on how to transfer wealth from the man to the oppressed legally here in the US of KKK. FYI, it was half sarcasm, but there is no half green. I feel a little better.
  9. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) as opposed to a political section of a white sox baseball forum. +1
  10. The last time I was this upset was when Haeger got ejected for hitting a Yankee batter with a knuckleball. Other than that I don't really get upset about umps, bad calls are a part of the game. But... all at once? They were game-changing calls.
  11. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) I think he already said it. Take away more money from Whitey (since they are the only benefactors of capitalisms, capital gains, etc.) to pay for all the social programs. Now you are just making s*** up. I have to assume this is sarcasm but I don't have much reason to believe it is.
  12. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) What happened to Mark? He looked so good in Az. Why did we sign him to a long term contract? What the f***... Buehrle is a good pitcher with career stats and one anomaly year to back it up... have we seriously reduced ourselves to this already?
  13. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) I know you have me blocked but this is another example of Obama supporters twist on words. Nobody is saying hes preached nothing but hate for 20 years were just saying that he has preached enough to raise some flags. Nobody is saying that Obama absolutely subscribes to all the hate either, were saying that a 20 year relationship with someone who is labeled as your spiritual adviser that says things like Wright has said also raises some questions. No, not everybody agrees that it is more than one occasion because that is the only bullet in northsides arsenal. Apparently for him there isnt enough PROOF to label Wright a racist and he still contests this MIGHT be an isolated incident. Actually I don't have you blocked, I'm still reading your posts, the only time I wasn't was right after I did it that day when you kept throwing those veiled/backhanded insults at me while calling me a racist to boot which I didn't appreciate, to say the least. Anyway I have to raise the BS flag about nobody saying he preached nothing but hate and "Obama supporters" twisting words, if this statement doesn't hold water go back and look at the OP. Then go turn on any news channel that's still talking about it, even CNN in all its liberally biased glory, you will see Republican strategists saying this ad nauseum. Or go anywhere on the internet, try a Facebook group. People are saying it and I don't have to twist anything.
  14. Did Swish just ground out after a 3-pitch AB? I was expecting him to work the count a little stronger than that, lol. Ah well, just 1 AB out of another 499
  15. I thought that by now everybody pretty much agrees that it was more than one occasion that he's said something like that. If that was the point, we'd be about done talking about it by now wouldn't we? Howcome it keeps coming back to that? Answering my own question: because people get all kinds of caught up in this and say things like "he's preached nothing but hate for the past 20 years and Obama's close to him, and therefore Obama must subscribe to all of this hate"... that is where the crazy jump in logic happens.
  16. I know it seriously bothers Bush because I've read some stories, but I take issue with Cheney's dismissive attitude. It's in line with the way he acts, like not too long ago when a reporter said something about the vast majority of Americans disagreeing with the administration's course, and he said "so"?
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) The arrogance is THE problem with this administration. That much I agree with. However, the soundbyte era is simply nuts when you look at the context of which a lot of this stuff is taken, Reverend Wright included. Agreed... lazy journalism and the endless quest for soundbites is the downfall of honesty in our media
  18. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) You know very well it wasn't only a one time thing. You may be trying to make Drunk look bad, but you come off as the fool when you make a comment like that. Actually I had originally said something about extrapolating 30 seconds over 20 years (what I was getting at was deliberately going to ridiculous, impossible extremes), coincidentally the reply to this was the one that prompted me to put him on ignore since he'd been pissing me off with his tone towards me in another thread. Anyway that reply, in direct response to me talking about those short clips, said "I've seen all I need to know." So no, NorthSide is pretty much talking about exactly what was said, and isn't cutting anything out to make him look bad.
  19. Kerry isn't my favorite person in the world but the gist of what he's saying is real, even if it's slanted towards the point he's trying to make (i.e., vote Democrat)
  20. I simply love the scorn, derision, and contempt that is applied to anybody who hesitates to take these silly, non-existent leaps of logic.
  21. I can't really say I'm "behind the times" anywhere. I basically have everything. Well, it's all relative anyway. I have 2 desktop PCs at the house but a broken laptop, I have a Xbox 360 and a Wii but not a PS3, and I have a 720p HDTV instead of a 1080p. I don't have satellite radio, but that comes with DirecTV anyway so whatever.
  22. You know Tex, if I wrote a list of reasons I got out that'd probably be no lower than 3rd on the list. Bush doesn't have that flagrantly arrogant attitude of Cheney though, at least it doesn't seem that way to me.
  23. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) In the 01 World Series didnt he get a huge ovation throwing out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium? Yeah, there was all that bipartisanship spirit that actually lasted for a good while, which was a really nice feeling in spite of what it took to make it. It's COMPLETELY fallen apart since then.
  24. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) Does one have to respect an office that hasn't respected the American people and the constitution? Ok, political rant over. The office, yes, unconditionally. The person holding it, hell no.
  25. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 10:23 AM) Yes. But I thought it was classless. And he got much worse than a "mixed" reaction -- the crowd really gave it to him, sad to say. In 2002 he probably would've gotten a standing ovation.
