If the Sox come up 1 or 2 games short of the postseason, is it fair to criticize Robin for not adjusting when things need a change? Such as sticking with Morel in the 2-hole way too long, having Santiago close out of spring training, not batting Rios-Dunn-Konerko 3-4-5, taking Sale out of the rotation abruptly in May, and pulling Quintana from a 1-0 game in LA with only 77 pitches? I may forgive him for the last one, but there have been some management mistakes this year that may cause Kenny to come up short making the playoffs again.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) DKnobler @DKnobler Rangers announce they've released Yorvit Torrealba. Already had been DFA, and they had tried unsuccessfully to trade him. Get him, Kenny. Send Flowers down for 3 weeks.

QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) KC is 4-4 against the Sox this year, 1-7 against the Tigers. That just may be the difference in this division. Sox are 5-1 against the Mariners. Tigers are 1-5. Same deal. How about the Tigers are 7-4 against the Sox. That may be more important.

Win tomorrow night, hopefully with De Aza and youkilis in the lineup, and move on. This was not a good game.

Ok let's put up a 4-spot and put this ugliness behind us.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 08:15 PM) That chart they showed of the Sox through the last 54 and the first 54 is very interesting. Everything was pretty much identical. But then again, with a 54 game sample size, a lot of stuff should be fairly identical. First 54: 478-1852 (.258) 260 runs 77 doubles 11 triples 69 homers 253 rbis Second 54: 478-1852 (.258) 254 runs 78 doubes 11 triples 67 homers 246 rbis BTW, Dunn in games 55-108, only a .308 OBP, hitting .188.

Dempster 6 shutout innings so far in Boston.

The Royals haven't been Peavy's favorite team to face in his career. ERA almost at 5 over 10 starts. But throw that out tonight. 7-8 innings. 3 runs or less.

QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) I don't know if Detroit wins 90. They went 33-21 from Games 55-108. If they match it, 91 wins. Plus that final 19 games for them...is anyone going to be surprised if they go 15-4?

Birmingham faces our old buddy David Holmberg tonight.

QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 01:05 PM) Also, the Sox need to have at least one or two sweeps in there to have a good chance. Lots of chances too with Minny, Seattle, KC and Cleveland... Definitely would like to see the Sox sweep some team and not *have* to beat the Yankees 2/3. And of course, going into Detroit and winning a series would go a long way to winning the division.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 01:01 PM) Tigers/Yanks series needs to have one less game and their current record is 59-50. It's an equal amount of games. The final third of the season.

Let's use this to track the final 54 games for each team, taking strength of schedule in consideration. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) Why do you think the Angels win 90? They've been 9-12 since the break - and they have a brutal last 6 weeks of their schedule. I can't see them going 11 over down that stretch. Every series is either on the road or at home vs. a contender from late August on, except for 1 september series against SEA. I hear you, and maybe the Rays and Angels only end up with 88-89 wins. I just think with that starting pitching, the Angels are eventually going to peel off a 16-4 stretch. As far as the Sox, I just want them to get to 91 wins. If they win the division, great. If that's not enough for the division, then tip your cap to the Tigers.
-
I'm bumping that 89 for the second wild card up to 90. I think the Sox, Tigers, Angels, Rangers, and Yankees will all win over 90 games.

Verlander's schedule sets up this way: 8-11 at Tex 8-17 vs Bal 8-23 vs Tor 8-28 at KC 9-2 vs Sox 9-8 at LAA 9-13 at Sox 9-19 vs Oak 9-24 vs KC 9-29 at Min Make no mistake, he'll be there for a division tie-breaker, or Wild Card game if they need it. It would be in the Sox best interest to win the division in 162 games.

Giants got Jose Mijares from KC. Won't have to worry about him out of the pen the rest of the season.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) Liriano to pitch Saturday, Sale on Sunday. 5 days rest for each, so not unexpected. Let's see if they actually pitch Sale on August 17 with 4 days rest. My guess is another 6th starter game sometime between Aug 15-17.

Hosmer is batting 7th. What the hell happened? He killed it in spring training too.
