I’m just glad he’s not going to start anymore. This is a step to get him off the team. Everyone knows he needs to move on to a different team.

By my count, the Sox have 50 players in big league camp. Only 16 appeared in a game for the Sox in 2023.

Sooooo Mendick is going to make it?
I’ve been assuming all along the bench is Stassi, Mendick, Pillar, and Moustakas or Sheets.

Bailey Horn was optioned yesterday too if that wasn’t noted.
50 left in camp
29 pitchers

The “all pospect “ games are starting this week. On Friday, regular Cubs/Sox is on NBCSC. The Prospect Cubs/Sox game is on Marquee at the same time.

I know they have to give Kopech every last chance, but I’m really looking forward to the day he’s out of the rotation…or on a different team.

Those 3 walks to start the 4th, yesterday, probably didn't help his case, any. Does a "minor league camp" assignment mean they still need to evaluate which level they're going to assign a player? I wonder if that means they could be contemplating Elko and Monty to AAA. But they're going to make Ramos play his way out of AA.
Optioned means they’re on the 40-man. But they’re all going to the minor league camp.

Funny. Love it.

Two weeks in. I wonder if anybody is close to being cut. They're playing B games every day that aren't reported on. So can't really tell who is just cooked or not.
Yes, it’s unusual that there’s only about 17 days until they know who’s going north, and there’s still around 70 players in big league camp. 5 of the next 6 games are away from Glendale, so maybe they’ll just wait until next week to clear a ton of players out.

If they gave it their all with the current roster, maybe high 60s. With more trades coming in July or earlier, I’ll go 58-104.

Two kids, over 18 but under 21
This wasn’t a surprise, but still really awful.

At the very least, they need establish a reliable offseason schedule that ends with players that are supposed to be reporting to camps in mid-February to be signed by February 1.
Maybe just shut down the game after the World Series for 5-6 weeks, with exception of announcing awards. Have the GM meetings when the Winter Meeting usually happen. And then have the Winter Meetings in early to mid-January. After that, if you’re a free agent, get signed by 2/1. Obviously there can be other rules for older guys that are non-roster invites, but the cream of the crop free agents should be in camp on Day 1.

Was this a prospect or a signing? I literally cannot keep 70 names straight right now.
He was on the Sox last year. DFAd in the offseason, outrighted, and was invited to spring training.

Too bad his middle initial isn’t T.

Fletcher is wearing #7

I’d think he’d get a non-roster invite offer from some teams that need a second baseman, similar to a Kevin Pillar type contract. Make the team, get 3 mil. Then it’s up to him to play his way into the lineup everyday.

A week before spring training and no announcement of NRIs. What’s this world coming to? lol.
Here’s what I can piece together from the transaction page. Obviously Nastrini and some other guys will be there, but here are some names that may be there:
Pitchers- Juan Then, Joe Barlow, Chad Kuhl, Edgar Navarro, Nick Padilla, Justin Anderson, Jake Woodford
Catchers- Carlos Perez, Chuckie Robinson
Infield- Zach Remillard
Outfield- Kevin Pillar, Brett Phillips, Wynton Bernard, Mark Payton, Rafael Ortega

I think Getz is playing this ok. Still think Cease is gone before games start (2/23), but he may actually have to show up to Glendale for a short time.

Getz on the Score at 9:30

Mauer’s case was a pretty easy Yes. His damage was as a catcher. Three batting titles with an MVP. Over 2000 hits. A franchise player, Being a good guy doesn’t hurt him either. It’s an honor he deserves.
Next year Wagner, Ichiro, and Sabathia are getting in.

They will, unless you know something about the weather that nobody else does.
From the pitching perspective, it’s just going to be series to series, and a ton of up and downs from the minors. Baseball is a bad place when it comes to pitching. Jeez, wonder why?
