  1. single night hotel packages are available for soxfest now. but you dont get to go to the friday night festivities.
  2. did the cub convention not sell out again?
  3. i think dumpster exercised an option.
  4. I think they dont want Bush to be the next commish. But they dont have anyone else ready to take over.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) I just don't get how it's a 2011 expense, if it was it would have been paid in 2011. At least that's how it works in accounting... then why not just give him the 8 million as 2012 salary? obviously kenny and the bean counters found a way to make this work
  6. I defintely want to hit the Selig Seminar. Looks like he's being added to the normal "meet sox brass" session. So instead of f***ing with Kenny, I get to ask Bud a hard question or two.
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) So it still hits the books in 2012, so how would that help? typically you give a signing bonus in the year you sign. look at the nfl. since they have a salalry cap, signing bonuses became the norm. a bonus that was paid out in the first year. it went down a bit as the CBA was adjusted to make the signing bonus part of the cap, but spread out over the life of the contract. now, baseball dosent have a cap, so contracts can be front or back loaded in any which way or form. the sox ARE giving danks 8 million in 2012, but the signing bonus is being treated as a 2011 expense. it's like borrowing from yourself in a way.
  8. um.....NO. the sox have too many DHs. Why trade for one that sucks and cant keep himself healthy? AND costs more than the guy that is the current dh? and to a team that's looking to slash payroll and go young?
  9. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) Maybe Im reading this wrong, but the bonus still comes in 2012... PAID in 2012. he was SIGNED in 2011.
  10. the signing bonus hits 2011's budget. seeing as 2011 took a loss, might as well make 2012's books better looking.
  11. you see some of his rookie cards on ebay every once in a while. i had his topps "gold"(mail in). i sold it for $20 to my now stepfather. at the time i thought i was being lowballed(he used to work cards shows then. he late rbought a store that he still runs). that card is now worth...20 cents.
  12. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 01:13 PM) Was kind of hoping that the 2005 Canvas would fall on a weekday covered by the 27 game plan. I've never really cared too much about promo giveaways though, so no biggie. Half the time I can't even make it to the park until second inning or so because of work. On the other hand, this year 20,000 people might not show up the entire game, let alone by the second inning. Sox are playing houston on a weekend,so it makes sense to have it then. And it wont be hard to get tix. There's always a code to be had.
  13. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) when do single day tickets go on sale? thanks. Www.whitesox.com/soxfest
  14. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) I've been trying but the guy who's in charge clearly doesn't feel like calling me back. But yes this pretty much resolves my question. I'll buy her the two-day pass for the Saturday and Sunday activity and she will stay in a hotel with the rest of us. Thanks. Friday is hotel guests only. She'll need a 3 day pass if she's staying all weekend. Not everyone is back from xmas break. Try again on monday.
  15. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 04:21 PM) So a friend of mine and I purchased the SoxFest Hotel package, that comes with two weekend passes. All taken care of all I have to do is actually attend the thing. Now a 'GF' of mine would like to join, would all she need to do is buy a two day pass for $70? I just wanna make sure she will be able to hang out with us at the hotel 'afterhours' as well as attend the seminars and events all weekend. Any help appreciated. call the sox and see if you can buy another pass..however, you dont need a pass for the bar after the show.
  16. http://mlb.mlb.com/schedule/promotions.jsp?c_id=cws Some cool items, like the 2005 Canvas Print. Also, a Robin bobblehead, and some kids' only items(southpaw doll, backpack, 72 style jersey).
  17. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Dec 15, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) I'm still confused on how the GM's moves are the fans fault. Does that mean I can take credit as well for the 05 WS win? i think so.
  18. QUOTE (Andrew @ Dec 15, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) You don't think Dunn's performance (and now, subsequent inability to contract better talent because we're paying him so much $ to DH) could impact fans decision to support the team? I'm not saying it is or isn't, but I could see it being conceivable and certainly relevant to the discussion. dumbdunn being on the team is not the fans' fault. the OP says that this "mess" is the combined fault of Kenny and the fanbase.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2011 -> 07:51 AM) I have been bombarded with these offers this fall. funny. i havent.
  20. why are we talking about dunnf***? i thought this was yet another sox fan b****ing that fans dont support the sox?
  21. Seeing as the thread has been derailed, I'll suggest a few ideas to spark conversation: More Promo items. And not just on weekends. Plenty of teams do "tshirt tuesdays/thursdays". The Sox should be trying harder to get people to come on weekdays. More DIFFERENT promo items. Most of the promo items are greatest hits selections. Kids typically get the kid size jerseys. miller does a beer man bobblehead evey year, opening day is car flags. we get a bobblehead or two a year now. green hats on 1/2 way to st. patricks day. why no offer some different swag? i wouldnt mind mini-statues of the other sox statues, or replica jerseys for adults. golf towels, or tailgate coolers could work as well..... more "ticket packs". maybe bundle parking(since everyone seems to b**** about how much parking costs) with a ticket 4pack. ticket discount is you take the cta to the game. maybe $5 off when you hand in an expired/empty cta card on weekday games.
  22. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) Groupon they've been using groupon since 2010. mainly for patio parties.
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 08:23 PM) I wonder if players had their attorneys review the books and do due diligence on their ability to pay out these contracts. If I was Pujols attorney I would have definitely told him that $250mil from Moreno is much more likely to be paid than $287 from Loria. I think A-Rod lost money due to the Texas bk. A-rod gets his money. The Rangers sold for close to 600 million. More than enough to satify the secured and unsecured(like a-rod) creditors.
  24. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Dec 11, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) There's no issue in making Penn State jokes - I use Sandusky's name all the time now (i.e. The Bears will get Sandusky'd by Tim Tebow this weekend). - $1 hot dog Thursdays each Thursday. - Post a promotion only on social media for games during the week that they know will not sell well and offer $7-$10 upper deck seats and $7-$10 off on lower deck seats. - Make Kid's Days like they used to be...reduced price tickets (I think it was a dollar per ticket if you were under 13) and get the players to sign autographs. - Bring back Fuji Film Photo Day. both bolded ideas are currently used by the sox as of the 2011 season
