  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) @ SethDavisHoops Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post Dispatch has reported that Matt Painter called Missouri AD Mike Alden to accept his offer. FAIL
  2. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) Just think though, Aaron Poreda could be our ace right now And Brandon Allen could be the starting 1B in Charlotte, instead of in Reno.
  3. Great. The "Going to see the Cubbies this weekend" season on Facebook has started again, ugh.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) VCU was definitely not overrated. Butler was not overrated. There are a bunch of teams that were clearly underrated going into the tournament. VCU was definitely not underrated. They were the last team in and it's still debatable whether or not their regular season performance deserved them that bid in the first place. They were rated right where they should have been. The fact that they have gotten hot and overacheived doesn't suddenly make them clearly underrated.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) I can't really hate on him for protecting his sister. Sorry, but it still doesn't justify pistol whipping somebody...
  6. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) I believe that was sarcasm...a shot at KW for trading them away. Yeah, I caught that. My response was a subtle attempt to say that this a discussion about the present/future of the team, not a place to b**** about past trades AGAIN.
  7. @ SethDavisHoops Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post Dispatch has reported that Matt Painter called Missouri AD Mike Alden to accept his offer. Wow. For some reason, I never realized that Painter played for Purdue as well. I don't know how much more Mizzou is paying him, but thats a huge get for them. Stealing a successful coach from his alma mater at a program thats on a similar level, if not higher.
  8. watched most of my porn scrambled
  9. QUOTE (since56 @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 08:07 AM) Clayton Richard or Gio Gonzales No thanks on Richard. Who are we gonna trade to Oakland for Gio? Any package they would ask for would be too much I bet.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) I'd agree. That's kind of how the NHL has been rocking penalties for awhile now. I mean, a minor penalty is 2 minutes, but if said penalty causes the other player to bleed, no matter how weak it looked, it's a double-minor 4 minute deal. This seems similar in that regard. I feel like boarding penalties can be judged similarily. If the player hits the boards at a funny angle and appears to be really injured, you can bet on a 5 minute major. But if he hits the boards somewhat safely and is able to quickly walk away, then its just a normal 2 minuter.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 08:56 AM) 3-6 weeks for Lidge. Jose Contreras, closer extraordinare
  12. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 02:42 AM) Lot of similarities b/w that Sixers team in 01 and the Bulls this season I reckon (and I don't mean that in a bad way). Except that DRose's supporting cast >>>>>>>>> Iverson's teammates. Someone posted the rest of the starting lineup above, wow, that's pretty impressive that he could carry that squad to the Finals
  13. $16 mil a year for just seems like a lot of money for Danks. I guess that might be a going rate nowadays but that just seems like a bit of an overpay to me.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 29, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) They won the AL Central last year with Justin Morneau missing the 2nd half of the season. The entire half. If he's back to full-health, they've improved significantly by inserting a f***ing MVP into the lineup. And his replacement in the 2nd half put up nearly better numbers than Morneau did in his MVP season. Thome came in and basically did the same, if not better, than Morneau would have, minus the defense at 1st of course.
  15. One simple answer: More doubleheaders
  16. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Mar 29, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) If Stevens' goal was to play in a major conference, he would have left for Oregon or Wake Forest last year. Oregon offered him damn near 2.5 million, and he laughed them off. Stevens makes real good money (about to make even more after his raise), and is coaching in the city he grew up in. The only jobs I could ever see him leaving for is Indiana/Duke. His dad played football at IU, and his mom used to teach there. He used to attend IU games regularly as a kid. I agree with you, although I could see him possibly leaving for a Kentucky/UNC/KU type job if they ever opened up. It also needs to be noted that he is only 34 years old. He could stay at Butler for another 10 years, then leave for a dream job. He'd only be 44 and would still have a good 20 years or so to coach at that school.
  17. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 29, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) I'd rather take the first couple of months to see if Quentin can rake on his own. If he can't, I have no problem with a platoon. If he can, though, I want him getting regular AB's. Q at his best >> Half-time Q and half-time Milledge. I agree with your train of thought, but I just have a hard time believing that CQ is gonna consistently rake. The last two years have made me lose faith in him and how long do you give him until you start the platoon?
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 29, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) Why? Give me a good argument to believe you. If VCU wins the title, how are they not at least in the discussion of best teams (which is good enough since no one would agree on who the "best" is if they all lost). Seems to me that people ignore what NC teams have to go through to win the whole thing. It's not a fluke. Sure, there are some easy roads to the title, but do you really want to claim that VCU has played no one so far? UNC was incredibly overrated btw. Just because they played in a high caliber environment doesn't mean they were a high caliber team. I never said VCU hasn't played anyone. They have had an incredible run and if they win their next two games, they will be 100% worthy NCAA champions, just as Duke, UNC, KU, Florida & all the other champs before them were. But in a single elimination tournament where luck of the draw and matchups can be just as important as how well you play, I can't just call the champion the "best" basketball team in the country. I also can't let the last 4 games override what I watched in the previous 4 months. Nothing at all I have seen on the court makes me think that VCU is a better basketball team than OSU, not this past week, not this past season. Like someone said earlier, championships are won the court, OSU blew their chance while VCU is still alive. One of the final 4 teams will deservedly be crowned NCAA champions and that is all that will matter in the record book forever. But right now, I can't let that title cloud what my eyes have watched on the basketball court all year.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2011 -> 09:01 AM) So how does mens bathroom etiquette work here... Three urinals on the wall. Two are regular sized, one is the short one. Short urinal is on the far right. First guy in uses the far left tall one. Is it OK for the second guy to use the other tall one, or does he have to go to the short one? Use the other tall one
  20. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) Todd Bertuzzi gonna be suspended for the rest of the regular season. That was dirty and he has a track record of being a dirty player. LeBrun on ESPN is reporting that no league hearing is planned, Bertuzzi won't see any other punishment.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) Brandon McCarthy named the A's #4 starter. Good for him, was always a big fan. I was not a happy camper when he was traded away. (Obviously, Danks has changed my opinion of the deal) QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 04:17 PM) And Alexi Ogando will take Tommy Hunter's place in the rotation while he's on the DL. Nice. I had no idea Ogando was even being stretched out to be a starter, figured he had the 8th inning job (or the 9th if Feliz had become a starter.) He can pitch, think he can be almost just as good as Feliz.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) I don't think a team that loses in the tournament can be called the "best" team either. I think a team that can win 6 games against all sorts of competition is the best team at the right time. Well if you think that VCU is a better basketball team than OSU or UNC because they advanced to the Final Four, then you haven't been watching the same basketball as me. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) Being the 'best' doesn't matter. Being the champs does. This is the truth. I guess I am the one arguing it, but the "best" argument doesn't matter in the long run anyway. Ten years from now, all that will be remembered was that VCU made an improbable run and that Connecticut was the national champion.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) The Best team in MLB in 2006 went 82-80 in the regular season. the Houston Astros?
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 08:13 AM) So Mike and Mike on ESPN, one of the dumbest radio shows out there, had a debate this morning about whether the tournament is "good" for deciding who the real "champion" of men's basketball is each year. In essence, Greenberg was arguing that any team can make a run and win, but they wouldn't be the "best" team that year. I for one think that's stupid logic. I understand that teams have bad draws/matchups, that teams get cold and lose a game they would otherwise win, but that's the stakes for everyone, and over the course of six games, those "flukes" are going to even out. If VCU ends up winning the whole thing, then guess what, they ARE the best team because they played the best basketball over the last 3 weeks of the season. For once, they are 100% correct. Same thing happens in baseball. Winning a single 7-game series doesn't make you the BEST team in baseball. It makes you the champion of the playoffs. Champion does not equal best team. See the 2006 Cardinals. No one remembers who the best team that year was, they just remember that the Cardinals got hot and won the World Series as an 83-win team.
