  1. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) So basically if it's our guys, you don't mind it. If it's another team's, we should throw fastballs at their spleen? Nice way to be objective. Nice way to read. I've never noticed our guys jogging backwards to first, hopping 4 times, watching it fly (sans Griffey) like you've never hit one before. And if they did/do, they should be hit.
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) Alright people keep in mind "bean" = ball to the head. If any of you truly believe a player should take a ball to the head for standing at home plate after they launch one then there's something wrong with you. How about "pegged" or "pelted"? At least these don't suggest any body part in particular So how about Jermaine's hop? Quentin's bat throw? Iguchi's bat flip? Do these deserve action as well? Do you seriously believe hitting Manny in the ass with a fastball is going to keep him from "showing you up?" If anything he's just going to stand at homeplate for an additional 5 seconds the next time he launches one off you. JD doesn't do much unless its a big-moment HR (game tying, winning etc) which I'm fine with. TCQ tosses his bat like that after every hit due to fearing he may use it to decapitate the first baseman. The ones i have a problem with are the Soriono's, Aramis, Braun, etc. Hit a solo shot when you're down 5 and flip the bat, jog backwards, hop sideways down the line....the next AB for that d-bag or even the very next guy should be hit 100% of the time.
  3. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) I enjoy baseball because it has less cocky, showboating, big mouth a-holes than the other sports.....at least on the field. But some of these unwritten rules are a joke. Bunting, or stealing bases when you're up by 6 runs is grounds for getting beaned? Why exactly? Because it's running up the score? I guess no team in MLB history has ever come back from being down by 6 runs. KC should have put it in half ass mode I guess. uhh, he just admitted that he didn't call for the hit yesterday but has in the past. And posing for a HR shot when you're up by 7+ deserves a bean 100% of the time in my book
  4. good for him. Maris***ti popped the biggest woody after reading that, gives him a good weeks worth of dribble to write.
  5. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) This team is 2004 all over again. A feast-or-famine HR-dependent team with no speed and now the missing fifth starter. I kinda knew going in that we'd be lucky to snag 3rd place. What nobody saw coming was PK's collapse. You look at a team like Anaheim or even Boston and we look like an AAA team. The one bright spot has been Dye, who's getting it done at the plate. And Quentin. Bringing in Griffey seemed like patching a hole that PK created in the lineup, making it essentially a zero-sum gain. I think 2009 is a must year for rebuilding. Without speed and a leadoff hitter we're going to be seeing this year after year. and Ramirez...and Floyd....and Danks...and Linebrink....and Dotel....and Thorton...and AJ Apparently after dropping down .5 games, it has become easy to just say we suck now.
  6. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:25 AM) Maybe you guys that see him play every game haven't noticed, but has Paulie gotten slimmer and slimmer since 2005? Am I nuts? good god, not every freaking guy who has a bad year "looks slimmer this year". People need to stop with that argument for every single guy AJ is slimmer, so he was on roids right? Oh wait, hes having a near career year being "slim".
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) It's not negotiable. You get warned, you throw at a guy, you're done. he was talking about SUSPENSION not EJECTION
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) The Twins have been playing better baseball than us for a long time. The fact it took them this long to pass us (and they still haven't in the column that matters a lot right now, the loss column) is a sign we have hope as a team if we can turn around the pitching. Getting back a (hopefully) healthy Jose and especially Linebrink will help, and so would sending away Clayton Richard and Boone Logan. I think Minnesota will win the division, but to say it's over is not not accurate. I don't know, i still don't believe the Twins can keep up hitting .800 with RISP and 2 outs. If they keep that pace, then give them the title now, they deserve it. Only having 2 guys who can actually hit more than a single has to catch up with them
  9. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) The.season.is.over. fixed for you
  10. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Well, I am a lot closer to crying than laughing. If you love your team and spend as much time following it as we do, there is nothing funny about this. If you love your team you don't claim that THIS.TEAM.IS.DEAD after every loss. I still can't picture what this board would be like if we were 15 games out like last season.....does the opposite happen? Like is everybody optimistic about how awesome we will be next year? Because its obvious when we're a 1st place contending team, the consensus is that the teams sucks balls.
  11. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) crybaby sh** right there, pitch well, beat these terrible teams stop making excuses for this bullsh*t. again, i shall ask....have you ever watched a baseball game. If you do s*** that warrants getting thrown at, you should get thrown at. I wish there was more bean balls, then we could get rid of s*** like Braun's HR trot, Soriano's hopping, K-rods seizures after every strikeout. Its one of the few things I hate about what baseball has become.
  12. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) i can't believe some of you people are condoning what ozzie obviously had Carrasco do there to Olivo, he was trying to nail that dude with a fastball, because the royals are absolutely dominating our sh*tty team this weekend twins broadcast now showing the brawl, hahahaha twins fans have to be loving this right now have you ever watched a baseball game before? When you're up 8 runs, and are posing for homeruns, bunting, stealing 3rd....about a 75% chance you're getting beaned. But as always, when the Sox/Ozzie do something like this, its because we are a classless team. If its the cubs, they are just showing some of Lou's latin passion.
  13. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) I can't watch this classless team anymore Is that you mariotti?
  14. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) As long as it's not a brawl where we have suspensions for a month. hahahahah yesssss
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Don't laugh, you're ripping Swisher. *GASP* You broke your vow not to respond!!!!!!! How will you live with yourself!!!!!
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Again, you're completely off. Swisher's a goofy guy. He's SO GOOFY in fact, that he might feel like something is different if he wore the #1. I won't rip Swisher for anything. Posters like you, the ones who jump in, try to raise some hell, you'll learn soon enough that's not what makes good sports talk. Let me tell you one thing though, don't jump to conclusions... it makes you seem like an ass. *Note, I said "seem like" I didn't say you are one. Ripping every loss like we're 15 games back isn't good sports talk either. Considering the general theme of this board is to overreact to every strikeout and double play, I just went along with it. I don't jump in and raise hell, if anything I like to calm people down to lose their s*** over one more in the L column. But you can stick with the "I'm not going to respond anymore because that makes me better than you" theory, good luck with that.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) The Dirty .230 haha, that has a ring to it.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) Wow, talk about drawing conclusions. Go somewhere else to pick fights. Well i figured: A: you don't like swisher and will rip him for anything B: you think dirty 30 is stupid and somehow makes a difference so my response stands.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 04:28 PM) Unfortunately. Yeah, wouldn't want people to have fun playing baseball. Its serious business.
  20. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) that sounds naughty... and nice quote in the sig Jenksy....so when can we vote that the post of the year...all of the regulars have used it at least once since brian posted it...hahahahah Yeah whenever I get angry about something, i just picture him typing that and laugh hysterically.
  21. Swish will be "the dirty 1" moving forward.
  22. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) Well, this trade should do wonders for drawing in the bandwagon fans. They'll turn on the TV and think, "OMG, we got Griffey" and probably buy his jersey; not knowing this may be his last season with the White Sox. Also, on a more offensive note, it's good to have another brutha in the clubhouse. I know Joe Morgan agrees. s***, i will buy the jersey (tshirt one) just because he is my all-time favorite player.
  23. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) We got a below average player. that does not solve a need. He won't DH (Thome is already there) and it would be lunacy to suggest he go in RF or LF over arguably our two best players, leaving only CF as a viable option. If Konerko is shutdown for the year I guess Swisher takes his .229 average, 8 homers to 1st base and Griffey will take his .245 NL average and rapidly deteriating body out to CF. Sounds like a grand plan to me, not. As far as the two guys we dealt, calling them nothing is absurd. NO, they aren't superstar stud prospects, but Massett was just being inquired about today by Texas, so they wanted to at least talk about him. Richar is still only 24 years old. I didn't think he was anything special when we got him and when I saw him to be honest, but he's still TBD on just how far he can go at the Major League level. We've gone from getting players heading toward the downside of their careers to players who are clearly on the downside. Instead of trading for guys 2 years too late, now we're trading for them 7 years too late. Sing the happy song all you want, but this trade is just funny to me. Were richar or masset going to make a difference this year? Nope, none at all. If Griff goes on an insane run and helps us win, then great. If he doesn't, we didn't lose anything important to the team and it makes no difference.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) Assuming Selig approved it yes. Griffey has roughly $4 million remaining for this season and a $4 million buyout (unless you want to pick up his option year). The Reds are paying 1/2 of that $4 million and paying the full buyout. Link? I can't find anything confirming who is paying the buyout of $4mil
