  1. Its ok though, we're paying Nova/Alonso/Jay 20m in 2019. Those are the kinds of guys you need to win a championship and giving Manny another 10m a year would have prevented that.
  2. All that matters is what the "incentives" were and what the guaranteed money was. If it was a 220m offer with incentives he'd never hit/take then its a fake offer. Either way, it was incredibly stupid to not just flat out guarantee 300m if thats what he wanted.
  3. You hope they pull a Royals and win a WS with this crop of prospects and then go back to losing 100+ games a year instantly because this franchise cannot scout/draft/develop players & ownership is too cheap to pay for free agents. Thats about it really.
  4. The average fan won't really car and they'll do what they've done the last few years. Sell a few tickets, low payroll, lose a bunch of games, and still make a bunch of money. Screw JR and this franchise. I won't attend another game with him as owner
  5. I looked it up later....$300k....and it looks basically like any other high end SUV
  6. The players aren't wrong, but it's their own fault is all. They sold out young players to sign 9 figure deals as 30 year olds, teams finally caught up that they aren't worth that so they'll need to strike and pay young guys 10x more
  7. Saw a black Lambo SUV with white sox vanity plates around downtown yesterday. Assuming it was Manny
  8. Salary cap + non-guaranteed deals I'd assume. The solution to me seems to just be: increase pay for the young guys exponentially. Minor leagues should make a living salary, and arbitration earlier so young stud MLB players don't make < 1m for several prime years.
  9. You got me man you're the coolest, congrats. He definitely got an offer that blew away Mcutchen and Brantley and that 13m AAV is significantly more than Joc, something the Sox could never have afforded.
  10. Arbitration = Joc will make more than 5m in year 2 Michael Brantley just signed a 2/32 and Mccutchen got slightly overpaid at 3/50, both 1 year older. AJ Pollock is not getting more than 3 years and isn't going to blow away either of those. So again, for a few million more get a similar player without trading any assets.
  11. Is it? You said Pollock will be a 4-5 year commitment. I'm saying he wouldn't as an oft injured 30 year old. Also said he would be 12m+ more than Joc. Joc is making 5m then arbitration so Pollock would have to be in the 20+ AAV then.
  12. My sources have told me the latest offer to Manny is a non-roster invite to spring training and $100 Portillo's gift card.
  13. This whole process sucks, sucks bad. If this bullshit isn't on the top of the list of things to fix by the higher ups in MLB they should all be fired.
  14. Whats the issue here? Yes it would be different if it were Mack, rightfully so. One is a replaceable, shitty kicker the other is far and away the best player on the team and one of the best players in the league. The latter gets a longer rope, the former will be cut because he sucks and did something stupid in the media.
  15. Not if Manny's camp is trying to drive up the price of a team making serious offers.
  16. The only players getting screwed are the young guys, not the dudes making hundreds of millions. The MLBPA has been selling out young talent for decades so 30 year old guys could sign massive deals. Teams finally smartened up and stopped handing those deals out so now those deals are gone. Their next deal needs to have massive pay increases for young guys
  17. Sox v Phillies pretty much gives a definitive answer on the offer as well. The only reason to go one or the other is money, no Yankees-love-discount involved allowing Sox brass to lie about their offer.
  18. Buys them some time from me and shows me they actually are for real about building a good baseball team whatever it takes.
  19. So its down to highest bidder. Sox better be that highest.
