    2014 NFL Draft Thread

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 9, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) He was the highest-rated DB on Mayock's board at the time of the pick. Not a fan of Mayock. That doesn't do too much for me, but I acknowledge there are people smarter than me who seem to really like the pick.

    2014 NFL Draft Thread

I don't hate the Bears pick, but I'm really not that happy. I'm not sure he was the best defensive player available at that spot. I'm not even sure he was the best DB, let alone the best corner. I really get the feeling that Emery suffers a bit from Jerry Krause syndrome, and needs to prove himself to be the "smartest guy in the room." So far, he has hit on only two picks, and whiffed badly on most of his others, especially on D. Kyle Long was a reach, but a great one. I just hope a successful reach like that doesn't inspire more McClellins, Bostics, Greenes and Hardins, and that Fuller doesn't join that sorry group. We'll see.

    White Sox Winner!!!

QUOTE (flavum @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:26 PM) Danks 5 out of 7 in quality starts....and he's made all of his starts. Danks is like the worst starter in MLB. Dan Bernstein said so.

    Monica Lewinsky is speaking out

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 7, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) They are just trying to get this out now way before Hillary runs so that it can be called 'old news' and a rebirth of the 'vast right wing conspiracy' if it is ever mentioned then. I don't think Monica's timing is intended to be pro-Hillary. If anything, I would expect her to lean Republican now. I hear the Clintons left a bad taste in her mouth. Old joke; old story. "Nothing to see here folks. move along now."

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 6, 2014 -> 11:52 AM) There was like 5 players who failed a drug test at the combine. How could you be that dumb. Some big names. Timmy Jernigan Zach Mettenberger Christian Jones Telvin Smith Anthony Johnson Seriously. That tells you way more about intelligence than any Wonderlic test. And LOL at some of their agents claiming that the failures for "diluted samples" came from "accidentally" drinking too much water.

    Cubs salute Konerko

I thought it was pretty classy, too. I honestly can't recall a Cubs comparative during the interleague era. Sandberg retired (for the second time) the year it started, and announced it near the end.

    NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 6, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) It just looks like Delaney is going to do anything possible to make sure BTN is on the east coast. I'm not sure you're ever getting a big piece of that market unless you add even more teams. We'd have to see it spelled out, but are they really getting that much more money from it being in DC, especially if # of fans per game goes down, possibly significantly? Is some average sports fan in the DC area now all about BT basketball because the tournament is there? How exactly are they drawing more money? I think this move is far from a sure thing as far as more $ for the BT. In the meantime, you just upset a lot of schools and fans. They get more money by "building the brand" and drumming up excitement in these newer territories. The "more money part" doesn't have so much to do with tourney ticket revenue so much as it does B1G network TV subscriptions. Even if you're correct about attendance dwindling, this still makes financial sense. This is a long term play, and Jim Delaney is a very smart man. Besides, these arenas seat 20K; with 16 teams, that allots to 1.25K tickets per school. That's a pretty small percentage of fans and alums per school; so I disagree that "a lot" are going to be "upset." If so, they can wait their turn in the rotation (if it even goes to a rotation) for it to come back around.

    Ozzie on ESPN

    NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 6, 2014 -> 11:00 AM) As is any event ever, so that's not really relevant. You're making it much tougher for the vast majority of fan bases to make it to the tournament. And I can't imagine attendance will be great for it. The ones in the Midwest are full every year. Plus they don't owe Rutgers or Maryland anything. And Rutgers basketball? LOL. That'll really sell the place out. Pac 12 going to put their tournament on the east coast anytime soon? Of course B1G doesn't "owe" those schools anything. That's not my point. My point is that they don't take the tourney to this new market if those 2 new schools aren't added, which I don't think is debatable. And no, I don't think the Pac 12 (or any other conference) is going to go the opposite coast to play in a market where it doesn't have a school. But Washington DC is a B1G market, so that's not a fair question. I'll grant you that DC is a much farther drive, but there are a few more things to see and do there than in Indy, once you get there.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 6, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) An incredibly premature, stupid move. Meh, its a TV event for most anyways. This is a welcoming nod to Maryland and Rutgers, and not that different than MLB giving the All-Star game to teams with new stadiums.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 5, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Donald is small for a DT. I'm sure that is a legit concern for some teams. Did he mean they should take Hyde in the first round? If he was talking like 2nd or 3rd, I could see that, but 1st round would be beyond crazy. Man, I would hope so.

    Bieber got a DUI

In a way, the Rob Ford story is mildly amusing to me, because of his strong resemblance to Chris Farley. In another way, the Rob Ford story is sadly depressing to me, because of his strong resemblance to Chris Farley. Either way, Justin Bieber is an uber-d**che.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) What exactly does "banned" mean? Does he still own the team or are they taking the team away from him? He can't have anything to do with it, effective immediately; He can still own it, but they are "trying to force" sale. Not sure what that means, but I think I heard 3/4 vote of other owners can remove him. Presumably, that could come later and today's action is just by the Commissioner's office.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) Drove my dad's car around today and he doesn't have satellite so decided to try The Game out. It something refreshing just because it's new but this girl they had doing updates was awful. Mispronouncing names. Pausing for screw ups. Stuttering. It was awkward. I can't even get it in my car. That truly sucks for Hawks games that get preempted on WGN.

    *Official* Work Out Thread

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 08:56 AM) Shoulders are the one area I try to be extra careful with, regardless of what I do. There is so much that can go wrong in there from the most innocent of mistakes. Whenever I so much as tweak a shoulder, even if it's just minor, I do exactly what you said, I stay away from it and do legs or something else to let it rest. Thanks, guys. I don't do patience that well, but will stay idle for awhile. The other day, I could barely wash my hair in the shower it hurt so bad, so trying to "work through it" was definitely dumb.
