  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) Just read some about it, apparently he was telling the media to focus more on the positives and not just the negatives (very much paraphrasing there). It didn't sound like a total shot at the media, but yea telling the media what to do will never go well. I see his point, Beckman has dug himself (note: he did this all by himself) a big hole and the media (and let's face it, fans) aren't letting him get out easily. To him, the staff, and the players, the program is on the up and has had a couple really good months (making the bowl game, finishing strong recruiting wise), but to the media and most fans it's just a delayed crumble to a failed regime. I don't think Beckman is the answer, but I do think he deserves credit for getting to that bowl game when pretty much everyone wrote them off, and to pull in a recruiting class like they did is a good sign. Now can he not just sustain it but grow on it? Not sure on that, but this year is 100% make or break for him. Thanks, he's a doofus (and imo a worse coach than Zook), but I agree he deserves the credit you state.
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 09:37 AM) Illinois with a big day, got a 4 star RB and the DL that we really needed. Should end up 5th or 6th in the BIG, which is huge for us. B&B were all over Beckman's ass around 2pm; something about him blasting the media at his signing day presser. Anybody know anything about this?
  3. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) Luvabulls anyone? Been there, done that, with the "Soxettes" in the '70's. Pictures are hard to find, but a quick google search came up with this: http://wgntv.com/2013/09/06/chicagos-very-...istine-zigmont/
  4. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) For the last few years I've typically bought one Topps pack a year, whenever they show up on shelves. Just a little something to tide me over. I do this, too.
  5. "Despite growing up near Andersonville, he's never been to a Sox game on the South Side." WTF?
  6. Call him Johnny Rehab. Guess he waited until after all the kick-ass Super Bowl parties: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2350816...paign=editorial
  7. Shocked to wake up to this news. They are really like Jekyll and Hyde right now.
  8. Rather than make up silly ass new rules, I'd prefer he'd decree that umpires enforce the ones already written and call the rule-book strike zone.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 12:48 PM) Andrew Marchand ‏@AndrewMarchand 20m20 minutes ago Sources: Yanks plan to block A-Rod bonuses http://es.pn/1CYX6Nv via @ESPNNewYork The Yankees signed Arod to that contract in 2007. That was 2 years after the Congressional hearings and during the pendency of the Mitchell investigation. Arod hadn't yet been officially busted, but the Yanks had to know what they were getting into. As much as I would love to see Arod denied the money, I have absolutely no sympathy for the Yankees here.
  10. I'll venture to say he was by far the slightest built man to ever hit 500+ home runs, all because of his legendary wrists. I met him a couple of times, and my experience matches everything being said about the man; he was incredibly kind, welcoming and polite.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 11:33 AM) Why throw spaghetti against the wall? That's not only a hell of a mess to clean up, but that's delicious spaghetti you're throwing against that wall! How else you gonna know if the spaghetti is done? Its not like a catcher, where you can tell he is done after he loses 40 pounds and his power suddenly and mysteriously disappears as fast as it came.
  12. If Coop is excited, I am too. His veteran presence should be a big plus.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) There's a chance this is the org's best catcher. Not saying a ton of course. I'm happy we have some depth now. No way (at least I really hope so). He had a couple good years a long time ago, and hasn't been the same since he quit the juice.
  14. Enough already with the ex-Cubs.
  15. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 10:22 AM) If the under-inflated balls are such a big deal, you would think one of the officials would notice when it gets put in play. Not necessarily, it might only be noticeable when squeezed, as when making a catch, which I think is the reason for doing it. And IIRC, Illinois played part of a B1G game with a smaller, womens basketball a few seasons back before anybody noticed.
  16. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) @AdamSchefter Bears considering handful of OC candidates, including Charlie Weis, SF's Geep Chryst, DET's Jim Bob Cooter, DEN's Adam Gase. Weis intriguing Its intriguing because Charlie Weis would give the Bears a decided schematic advantage.
  17. Arod wants a job, the Sox are weak at 3B, and Kenny always gets his man. Just sayin' . . .

    1. Cut a hole in the box . . .
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) I am not so gung ho about Fox, but I think he could be a good "bridge" coach. From what I heard yesterday the Broncos don't think Gase is ready. Fox could bring him with, and maybe he is the ultimate replacement. I agree with this, but what good is a "bridge" coach? Fox is the safe, easy choice, no doubt, but I would rather the Bears dare greatly, or, in other words, go big or go home. Taking a risk doesn't mean you have to be reckless, like hiring a CFL noob, so I hope Emery's failure doesn't push them in too conservative a direction.
  20. Cardale Jones is a pretty good third-string quarterback.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 11:49 PM) Cardale Jones for #1 pick! Shoot, OSU's fourth string quarterback is probably worth a decent pick.
  22. I want Landon Collins, too, and I have already seen him to the Bears in at least one mock. However, everything Pace said in his press conference about taking "the best player available" regardless of need makes me almost certain he won't take him. That frustrates me, because I think there are exceptions to every rule and this cries out as a prime example, especially after the complete whiff at safety last offseason.
  23. eXcited for tonight's championship game! (that counts, right?)
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) Cant beat getting either the Rose or Sugar- Rose bowl for its history or New Orleans. I have gone to watch Illinois "play" in both. Yeah, I'm special . . .
  25. His list is ridiculous. Doesn't he know The Cubs signed Jon Lester?
