  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 11:27 PM) It would never, ever, EVER happen, for numerous reasons, but it's an interesting scenario to play out. Obviously, yes. IT was unlikley even at the start of the year. Now? Near impossible.
  2. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 11:21 PM) It is an interesting scenario, but I just don't see us taking on Zito, regardless of who's coming with him. Honestly don't know if I'd like to see it happen or not, but Kenny/Jerry ain't letting that happen. Zito's an Option (an unlikely one), but I was more focused on their aged OF Crop like, Winn or Roberts. Both these players are an interesting contrast in that they're obviously on the decline, but still retain some value. Were the Sox to make this deal (With no intention of offering either player a starting job) they could either be a decent 4th of (in comparison to Wise) or an ideal option to spin them for more prospects (of the Aaardsma deal variety)
  3. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:37 PM) The Guy I want added: Robbie Cano The Guy we will most likely get: Orlando Hudson Another thing that will really interest me is to see how the Mets shake up their team. I think they have to move one of Wright, Beltran, Reyes. I don't think they will trade Reyes, so that leaves me begging for David Wright. Javy, Dye, Poreda, and Fields for David Wright please I doubt Wright would be available, and i doubt Kenny would want to give away that much. I mean in terms of current status and potential we have Dye: All-star, 32 hr 90+Rbi (ideally for 2 or 3 more years) Javy: 200 +K solid 4 starter maybe, 3 Poreda: Potential 2 0r 3 Fields: Potential (healthy, even probably) 25 hr 75+Rbi That's a lot to give up, even if it's for (argubably) the best player in the league, and i bet Kenny'd say the same But if we're gonna talk crazy. My dream trade's always been Fields, Anderson, Mcullogh, Broadway, Owens for Lincecum, and the Worst contract they have, which we'd then eat Who doesn't love bust number #1's for a Cy Young Winner? (that's right i said it)
  4. Espn wants Dodgers-Red Sox. So here's to Phillies-Rays!!! I like both teams with the exception of a few players (coughBalfourcough), and would prefer some energy injected into the Series this year, anyone, but the Red Sox at this point. They're a very well-run organization, but they are very much wearing out their october welcome
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) Bailey's velocity is down to 91 mph now. If you're giving up Vazquez's 200 innings, you better get someone you know can be a starter. Especially, if we're predicting a Contreras return around the trade deadline if at all
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) Homer Bailey = steroid user in high school. Same with the Rasmus boys and Kyle Drabek. Really? Damn, that would explain the recent track record...and that's why Rasmus and Drabek break down every year. Alright, screw the pipedream it would be a nightmare.
  7. I'm a bit of a dreamer, but I consider this proposal to be somewhat reasonable. This one relies on the theory that Coop can improve anybody Vasquez, McDougal (and potentially a 3rd prospect) for Homer Bailey. Reasoning: I consider this to be a sequel to the Danks, and Floyd deals, and must be considered with the following in mind. Over the previous two years the reds have become extraordinarily frustrated with Bailey. To the point of sending him back and forth level to level. In doing so, they have shaken his confidence to a point, where some in the organization believe it cannot be returned. Now, with the Volquez deal, and the seeming emergence of Cueto. The reds have options, and are now looking for a bit more experience in their rotation to balance Harang with the younger generation. Look at this from the reds perspective Vasquez is in many ways a predecessor to Volquez and Cueto. He's a strikeout pitcher with a heavy fastball, and a sharp breaking ball. With a multiyear, and a decent track record the reds would seek to modernize their rotation to potentially, compete for second place in a horrible division. Also, McDougal has the track record of potential masked by continued mediocrity that some like. As a one or two innings man he could potentially, find his niche with the organization. Cons: Bailey is young, very young, leaving the Reds enough room to wait him out. He's been a huge prospect for years. Why give up now, epically after only two years? Conclusion: Ultimately, it's a tossup, but I don't think the price would break our backs.
  8. I know this is a hell of a time for a first post, but I’m inclined to agree with most of the sentiments expressed above. It truly is surreal to have so much invested in a team, and when they lose to feel oddly... content. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, because over the course of the year this organizations future has grown from mundane to surprisingly bright. The future is solid with Danks, Floyd, Quentin, and The Missile, and even Beckham, Danks P.2, Allen, and Poreda loom just on the horizon. Also, Kenny Williams has really shown me something this year. Surprising to me, as I was a heavy proponent of his firing at the beginning of the year, but Kenny has proved himself a Shark. He's not afraid to wheel, and deal, and could give a damn what the public thinks of him. This year to an almost unprecedented sense we have seen the fruits of his labor and they are enviable. Now for next year there are sill some parts to be addressed, but I have confidence that they will be filled to satisfaction. So, let’s sum it up. A 17 game improvement, a new younger core, a revitalized GM, and a reenergized fan base. Plus some memories that will last forever. I mean, really, how could we be disappointed?
