  1. Gio Gonzalez was “passed along” three times and put up 32 fWAR.
  2. Yes, let’s ignore all of Sheets’ history of being a bad major league hitter and slot in his horrible glove into RF because of a few dozen meaningless spring training at-bats.
  3. To be fair, only one person is doing this and they constantly look for things to feed their pessimism.
  4. It’s like two or three weeks typically unless it’s changed with the new CBA.
  5. Sheets isn’t a legitimate OF option though. How has DeLoach been this spring? If bad, I’m not sure what alternative they really have.
  6. For a reason? How about Arizona’s loaded fucking OF? When will you stop with this insanity.
  7. If we use Sheets as the strong side platoon in RF, then Getz should be fired immediately because he’d be even more full s%*# than Grifol.
  8. He has already proven himself in the minors and more seasoning won’t really help. At this point, it’s make or break in the majors…it’s really that simply.
  9. Can we please stop doing this every year? Spring training stats mean almost nothing and I say this as one of the most vocal critics of the Fletcher / Mena trade. And for the record, if Fletcher doesn’t make the Opening Day roster, that would much more indicative of Getz has no clue about player evaluation.
  10. I’d personally wait until mid/late April with Nastrini & Thorpe even if they were ready.
  11. Fedde, Soroka, & Flexin are locks. The other two spots probably go to some combo with Crochet (with a piggyback), Nastrini, and a free agent.
  12. I think we will look back on this trade in 10 years and all agree it was an A+ return when Zavala ends up being a legit star posting .400 OBPs year after year with 25+ bombs per and Thorpe has made 200 (mostly quality) starts for us.
  13. He’s 3.028 service time and typically you need to hold a guy down 15 days to ensure they don’t a full year (172 days) since the season is around 187 days long. As such, we’d roughly have to hold him down for a month and a half, which is an absolute no-brainer.
  14. This should be a wake up call for the Bears who wanted to keep Fields over drafting Williams and yet it definitely won’t be.
  15. He gained a couple MPH last year so more is definitely possible.
  16. If a lot of the young pitching works out and Jerry spends on multiple big pieces it is possible. But I’m talking about scenario in which we add say Alonso + Torres to the lineup plus a quality veteran for the rotation. I 100% think we could afford that in 2025, but Jerry is allergic to long-term money which means going after C tier free agents like Benintendi instead.
  17. Why does the bat have to be elite to be a good RF?
  18. Sounds like we’ve been “dangling” Kopech per Nightengale’s latest article:
  19. I think Fletcher was added to the Dbacks’ 40 man last year.
  20. How is Horn burning his last option? Wasn’t he added to the 40 man roster this offseason?
  21. First & foremost, we should pretend we are attempting to win games next year until they actually don’t matter, so I don’t really support the “110 loss team” being a fair excuse for us not sending him to Charlotte to open the season. As such, it is very challenging to carry a dedicated opener on your roster as it limits the amount of true bullpen guys you have available on a daily basis. And that’s problematic when you have a very questionable rotation. Second, are there things he needs to work on to be more successful as a starter vs. a reliever beyond just building up his innings? If so, why not let him do so in a less stressful environment where results don’t matter?
  22. I’m actually going to be more pissed if they don’t send Crochet down to the minors to start the season. I worry this move opens up a spot for Garrett to do a couple innings ever five day thing with the Sox, which would be super stupid.
  23. Yup, I fully acknowledge that my expectations on this were probably too high to some degree, but this is a very different environment now and true blue chip prospects are rarely traded anymore. Getting one would have been nice, but it would have likely resulted in much weaker back-end pieces. Getting a prospect who is a tier below blue chip plus two other high variance, high potential fringe top 100 types is at least within the realm of reasonable. Doesn’t mean anyone has to love or even like the specific players we got in return, but to act like it’s some sort of fleecing on Preller’s behalf seems crazy to me.
