  1. The Cubs haven’t even met with him from what I’ve seen. And I’m not yet convinced the Dodgers are eager to spend the money on him. I think this “he’s waiting on teams to free up money” narrative is complete BS.
  2. I think it simply comes down to roster spots.
  3. What in the world does this have to do with Reinsdorf? These picks cost like $25k worst case scenario and I can guarantee you Jerry has not wasted one second worrying about these.
  4. I’ve got bad news for you, but your proposed contract is worth $425M and not $375M.
  5. What are the financial implications of this trade? Any other pieces involved?
  6. The problem though is Ferrell has to make the 25 man roster, but for $50k you’re right who really cares. At least get a look at him during spring training.
  7. Their front office is fairy conservative. I think they’ll amongst the highest bidders for Machado and/or Harper, but I don’t think they were ever going to pull a Tom Hicks and outbid the competition by stupid amounts. And that applies to all free agents.
  8. Same here, still no idea how they fit him into the bullpen, especially if they add a guy Ottavino. But hey, not my problem!
  9. Narvaez is terrible defensively and is unlikely to improve substantially just by moving organizations. As for his bat, what he did last year is not predictive of what he’ll do going forward. I don’t buy the power numbers and think he’ll regress back to a league average hitter, which isn’t very valuable if paired with horrible defense. I was all for moving Narvaez and actually like Colome, just find what we got to be a little odd since we have plenty of money to buy relievers.
  10. I said this before the Winter Meetings, but never underestimate the power of a wife. Spending your summers in Chicago and having a close friend there are a pretty nice selling point.
  11. He’ll probably get 2/$17M, which other than not having to give a third year is not a huge discount to market. I’m guessing that Narvaez simply didn’t have much value because of his defense.
  12. I think he signs closer to $50M than $25M if we’re assuming a six year deal. He’s a guy I wouldn’t mind taking a chance on if the medicals look alright, but based on Hahn’s comments I think he has bigger ambitions for next year.
  13. I agree, but my guess is they’ll each get 10 starts or less at the major league next year. Heading into the 2020 season they’ll still be pretty green (Kopech too). It’s going to be a very inexperienced rotation. Unless Rodon and/or Lopez really step up this year, it’s hard to see who can actually provide TOR production in 2020. Almost feel like we have an impact starter via trade or free agency.
  14. It’s tough because relievers typically make the most sense, but we already have quite a few options and if you believe the rumors may be adding another established arm to the mix. Ferrell is super interesting though and it sounds like there is a 50/50 chance he makes it to us. If he does, I really hope they take him.
  15. Kopech should be ready by opening day and Nova is a on a one year deal. It will be interesting to see what the Sox do with the rotation next year. Right now, Lopez, Kopech, & Cease appear to be locks if healthy. The same applies to Rodon, except there is a control issue with him. Dunning should be ready by OD next year if Giolito flames out. The problem is if we’re trying to compete in 2020, that’s a lot of young starters to be relying on. IMO, you’d ideally add a TOR starter to anchor the rotation and let Kopech & Cease serve as your #4 & #5 starters.
  16. I mean, let’s be honest, there’s an objective reason for any rumor. In our case, I feel pretty confident Boras is leaking this “Sox are in the lead” narrative to force teams to pony up, while we’re using to Nightengale to counter that. To me, this is all good news because everything aligns to sugest we’re currently in the lead.
