I made a deal with my better half of pizza once a month.....so if you ever need any help with that tavern style

lol!  Good tavern style pizza is something I couldn’t give up.  I applaud your conviction though man.  You are a lot strong than I am.

Ok, Soxtalk, a Jet's pizza is moving in not too far from me. Is it worth a visit? Never had Detroit Style Za.

I lived in Nashville for three years and we had the choice of Pizza Hut or Jet’s as our go to.  We chose Pizza Hut for what it’s worth.  And for reference, we eat tavern style pizza once a week and deep dish probably once every two months or so.

I suppose if the pitchers are going to do this, we don't really need to carry Maldonado's .082, or whatever he's hitting. I'd rather see Chuckie Robinson and Lee nurture this staff.

There has to be some catcher out there (and likely within the org) who can handle a pitching staff without being terrible at all other aspects of the game.

With a 1.7 whip. I like Bummer, and I think the Sox did fine on that trade. Soroka has been disappointing but Soroka, Schuster and Shewmake alone were a very reasonable gamble.

The trade isn’t going to be a big win or loss either way…I just find it amusing that Chris Getz would refer to the return as foundational.

Okay, figuring Keller and Clevinger get the first cracks at the rotation, how many of thes top ten get a shot at some point?  Flexen and Soroka look like short-timers and they don't have a 5th starter.  I am going to say that Nastrini, Thorpe, Eder, and Cannon all get at least 1 mlb start this season.

Keller is a little bit of a wild card.  I’ve been assuming that Nastrini would get called up in the next couple of weeks with Flexen getting moved to the bullpen or DFAed.  Keller definitely could mess up that theory though.  Regardless, I do think Nastrini is the first man up amongst the actual prospects though.  I could still see him ultimately making 20+ starts for us this year.

But assuming that Keller isn’t given a rotation spot, I think we’re looking at a rotation of Crochet, Fedde, Clevinger, Nastrini, & Soroka through at least May.  If Soroka doesn’t flash something during this period and one of the kids force the issue, I could see a swap take place then.  Otherwise short of injury, I think it will take trades or Crochet being shut down to open up some rotation spots.

I do think there will eventually be at least two more open spots and I’d place my money on Eder & Thorpe getting them.  Obviously it’s all dependent on actual results, but Eder would be a guy I’d prioritize given his age and 40 man roster status.  Of the other two, I think Thorpe will force a call-up.  I think both him and Eder end up getting around 10 starts with us this season.

Based on the above, I think you’re looking at Clevinger, Nastrini, Eder, & Thorpe as your core rotation post deadline.  If Crochet is shut down by then, I’d expect Davis Martin to take his spot if healthy.  Otherwise, Cannon would probably be the favorite.  I do think at minimum Cannon makes a couple spot starts and possibly more if injury arises and/or the other prospects underperform.

Should be a much more fun second half…just need to survive White Sox baseball until then.

And the mental errors they made all of last year are still being made. Not paying attention to baseunners, poor baserunning, terrible relays….its obviously not all Pedro’s fault, but it’s also obvious he is a bad manager.

This team would be a disaster with or without Pedro, but these guys are going to get real sick of hearing Pedro saying “flush the losses” when they rack up 60 of them.  He’s obviously a terrible manager, but there is a little bit of strategy here in terms of when you fire him.  Let him rot through the first two months, fire him around Memorial Day and hope you get a few weeks of momentum out of an interim guy.  Then come July / August, you should start seeing some prospects come up and hopefully that adds some energy to the clubhouse.

I don’t care how talentless this team is. You have to fire Grifol. These guys are playing dead. You have to try something.

We’re not even 10% through the season…just wait until we reach the dog days of summer and the team has fully quit.  Getz will 100% fire Pedro at some point this season, but my guess is wait until Memorial Day at the earliest.

  8. Bockenstedt with 8 K’s, 0 BB’s, 2 H’s, & 0 ER’s through 4 innings.  He was a 5th year senior who we signed as an undrafted free agent, so he’s very much on the older side for A ball and solid results shouldn’t be all that surprising.  That being said, he was a guy the Sox targeted immediately after making their last pick, so maybe there is something there?  Haven’t seen him pitch yet so no idea what kind of stuff he has, but may put Kanny on if he goes back out for the 5th.

I think you have the right 10 guys on the list. Thank you for it.  I'm higher on Eder, MacDougal, and Taylor than maybe you are, but I think these guys are clearly ahead of Gordon and Batista for now. That may change in Batista's case as he's looked really good so far since the Sox acquired him.

Out of curiosity, where would you place Eder?  I think you can make a legit argument he has the second highest ceiling after Schultz if the stuff is fully back (which seems mostly to be the case), but he’s also on the older side and still needs to prove he can work through his control / command issues.  I put him a tier below Nastrini & Iriarte for now given those reasons, but can totally see the reasoning to have him ranked higher.

That's a solid list.  Plenty of breakout potential too.  Guys like Taylor or McDougal could be top 100 guys if they get going.

Yup, both of them are super interesting.  And beyond them, there is probably another half dozen or so legit SP prospects in full season ball.  I spent quite a bit of time debating whether to put Keener or Bush at 10.  Burke would be in the mix if I knew his shoulder was completely healthy.  I know Adams has his fans (haven’t actually seen him pitch).  Gordon has pitched really well against less advanced competition.  And Batista is a kid who really intrigues me.

  11. Adding players now is challenging.  The big question is should have added different players during the offseason.  Personally, I believe they knew this team would be garbage no matter what given there few prospects ready to contribute.  As such, they needed to acquire some cheap placeholders to buy some time with a goal of not being historically bad in the interim.

I think the real flaw is Getz assumed that by fixing the defense there would be enough of a floor to not lose more than 100 games.  The problem is that most of his additions are legit awful hitters, which put significant pressure on three dudes with injury histories and two dudes coming off mediocre seasons.  And unfortunately, those injury plagued guys all got injured (some bad luck there) and the two Andrew’s continue to not be good.  The remaining group may be the worst set of offensive players ever assembled in baseball history.

I said for the last few months that Getz’s offseason plan of all defense and no offense would be a fascinating experiment, and so far, it’s blown up in his face.  I fully expected to lose 100 games and would not have penalized Getz for that given the shitshow that was the front office tandem before him, but under no circumstance should being the worst team in baseball history be allowed.  And that’s a very possible outcome and one Getz should be accountable if it happens as he’s the one who has acquired the bulk of the retreads & misfits that we are giving playing time

Do you easily fall for Con jobs? Let me guess which candidates you are voting for. Never mind.

I have no idea what you’re referring to here.  That being said, not sure why my political affiliations matter when it comes to Jerry Reinsdorf wanting his children to sell the team when he dies.  But if you really want to know, I’m a liberal who hates Trump.  Hope that helps confirm if I easily fall for Con jobs or not.

  13. Given the shittiness of the major league squad, I’ve been looking for reasons for optimism elsewhere in the org.  And nothing stands out more than the quality of our minor league pitching.  There’s some real talent across all four levels with a few more legit prospects on the IL and in Complex ball.

However, it’s a very diverse group of pitching prospects in terms of age, ceiling, variance, repertoire, & proximity and I’d imagine there is likely to be quite differing opinions in how these guys are viewed.  Below is my current top 10, but I’d love to see who other posters here would include in their own.

    Rank | Prospect | Age | Level | ETA | FV

    1. Noah Schultz* | 20.7 | A+ | 2026 | 60
    2. Drew Thorpe | 23.5 | AA | 2024 | 55
    3. Nick Nastrini | 24.2 | AAA | 2024 | 50
    4. Jairo Iriarte | 22.3 | AA | 2024 | 50
    5. Jake Eder* | 25.5 | AA | 2024 | 45+
    6. Jonathan Cannon | 23.8 | AAA | 2025 | 45+
    7. Payton Pallette | 22.9 | A+ | 2025 | 45
    8. Tanner McDougal | 21.0 | A+ | 2026 | 45
    9. Grant Taylor | 21.9 | IL | 2026 | 45
    10. Ky Bush* | 24.4 | AA | 2024 | 45

He opined about that prospect only one time that I am aware of (and no he never told his family that), yet it has been misconstrued and bandied about thousands of times in the media and by others. Jerry is more likely to leave ownership decisions to his heirs and business partners, with the proviso that he wants them to keep the White Sox in Chicago.

It would be real cool to have a bonafide-ass blue chip catching prospect.

Would be amazing.  And it really seems like this kid is a legit dude.
