I hope you at least enjoyed the open bar

I definitely drank my money’s worth, but feel bad for the kid that there was zero excitement from the offense.  I do hope Jerry and the front office realize the impact that being this bad has on convincing the next generation of baseball fans to choose the Sox.

  2. Alright, DraftKings has a stepped-up parlay promotion, so throwing some money on the Sox.  $50 bet pays $850 with the boost.  Here are the legs:

    • White Sox to win
    • White Sox the score 2+ runs
    • Reds scoreless through five
    • Vaughn 1+ total base
    • Pillar 1+ total base
    • Sosa 1+ total base

    Please be kind baseball gods!

Looks like a great day to be at the ballpark. It's a shame that it's mid April and we are already out of it.

Yup, but at least tickets are cheap on the secondary market.  And Crochet alone is worth the price of admission on a beautiful day like this.

  5. Assuming we see Iriarte, Schultz, & Gordon today.  Not sure who goes for the Knights, but if it ain’t Nastrini or Cannon then I’m not sure it matters.

Post deadline? They're plenty bad now.  They might get better as they get rid of these guys.

The pitching hasn’t be terrible though.  If you remove Crochet, Fedde, Kopech, & Wilson, then it’s likely the pitching staff is worse.  And I’m super optimistic about the young arms we have on the cusp, but no guarantee they come up and immediately produce.

On the offensive side, I’m not sure which prospects will be ready this year and/or actually called up.  Montgomery could obviously push for a role at some point, but do they actually want to call him up and him join this s%*# show?  Not sure there are many locks after that.  Several guys at Birmingham could reach AAA this year, but not sure they promote them all the way to the majors.  I do think some of the bad vets like DeJong & Maldonado could get cut at some point and hopefully their replacements are better, but short of Montgomery I doubt they will be game changes.  Definitely hope I’m wrong there though.

I think they can make it.

Guys like Fedde (if he performs) will be gone. Ditto for Kopech and Wilson.

Good players that you keep on rebuilding teams are young and under team control. The only player who could fit that description is Crochet, and he’ll be shut down.

This team is going to be right up there with the 1962 Mets and the 2003 Tigers.

Yeah, a successful trade deadline could make this team a real threat for 120 losses.  When it’s all said and done, I think this could be the worst offense in major league history.  If Crochet gets shut down and you trade most of the other arms worth a damn, then there is no limit to how bad this team could be post deadline.  It’s going to be close because losing 120 games should be damn near impossible, but with a lack of talent and bad injury luck it just might happen.

Do you have a copy of his resume? Looking on LinkedIn, he worked in front offices since 2014, and was asst. GM/head of player development before his promotion. That's probably enough for a first time GM.

As I said to Nardi, I really wish they picked outside the organization. Getz being linked to the KW/Hahn regime is a distraction until the team actually turns the corner again. That said, he's GM, and all the screeching won't change that.

I pray that one day I get to work for a company you run, because apparently past title and not actual performance is all that’s needed to move up a level.

Tell me, did the director of player development make the decisions to rush players, putting college starters in the bullpen, first basemen in the outfield? Did the director of player development make the decision to punt on draft rounds 3-10 in order to pull money to catch a high school kid in the 30th round? Did the director of player development trade guys like Fernando Tatis Jr, and such?

This is such a stupid conversation. Please, anybody, give the name of one single prospect put into our minor league system who should have been a tip-in, and Chris Getz personally screwed up their development. I will wait for the answer. For a long, long time.

Seriously. Type the name of one can't miss prospect who was screwed up by Getz's system. Type the name of one promising prospect who wasn't brought along properly. ONE. TYPE ONE NAME.

It isn’t a stupid conversation at all and now you’re just being a dick for the sake of “optimism”.  Your argument basically comes down to “Getz was a good farm director because he didn’t make players worse than when they entered the system” and that’s straight up laughable.  His job wasn’t to simply make players better (any level of coaching should do that), but to get these kids to actually be prepared for the majors when they arrive and ultimately reach their potential.

Your example of “wins” for Getz are bunch of top 10 - 40 prospects who mostly underperformed at the majors or were called up with significant development still needed.  Lucas Giolito literally had to go outside the organization because he was so broken.  Cease took multiple years at the majors to get on track.  The positional group has mostly underperformed (yes, injuries are a part of that).  You’re right, it’s not his fault that the org sucked at bringing in talent under Hostetler (and Paddy to some extent) and in certain cases guys were rushed.  But that doesn’t mean Getz should get a free pass for a lack of breakouts and be general underperformance.  And no, a bunch of relievers and utility guys taken in the later rounds doesn’t change the calculus when every other farm director has similar notches on their belt.

I've already done this. Why does it have to be "prospects who exceeded expectations"? Anybody who came through the minor league system was "developed". Luis Robert had to be taught some strike zone judgement. Yoan had to get some aggressiveness. I'm not sure why that's such a hard swallow for everyone. I get it. Everyone hates Getz. That doesn't mean he had no hand in running a system that major league players came through.

Every farm system eventually produces major leaguer to some extent, so not sure why that’s the barometer for good vs. bad.  The reality is a good player development staff is getting the most out of its players and the easiest way to tell that if that’s happening is when there is a constant pipeline of prospects who meet or exceed expectations.  I think 95% of Sox fans would agree that the vast majority of prospects under Getz performed below expectations.  Getz should not get credit because he was given the #1 farm system in baseball and those top blue chip prospects simply made the pros.  I just don’t know what you see in his resume to suggest he was even a mediocre farm director.

And then there's the ones who succeeded because they covered their ears and went, "la-la-la" when Sox coaches tried to coach them, and then they watched YouTube videos and became Luis Robert.

Who are all these successes you refer to?  I’m not even trying to be a dick here, but curious who you feel are prospects who exceeded expectations after being brought into the organization and actually played in the minors under Getz.

Yoan is gonna get the $5 million dollar buy out. but Ryan McGuffey said this and I agree with him. He said unless Moncada can shows that he can stay injury free and stay on the field, the best that Moncada is going to get next year is a sub-million dollar minor league contract loaded with incentives.

And I think he will never earn any of those incentives and be out of baseball in a few years.

He was the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball when the Sox traded for him. He was the Jackson Holiday of 2016.

I think McGuffey is very wrong here.  Someone will give him a guaranteed deal for at least several million just based on the upside.

  13. This guy may be the biggest clown in baseball history.  Like no one gave a f*** if he spent 15 seconds looking at the eclipse, but the dude is such a tool that he needed to claim he didn’t have the time because he needed to watch video in preparation for the game tonight.  And then after all that, he actually goes out and looks at the god damn eclipse.  This dude would literally say anything to help convince the world he is not completely incompetent.

Pushing all the wrong buttons.  Why in the hell is Leone on this team?  Grifol is going to be fired before April ends.

Why is he being used in over 50% of our games?
