  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 07:18 AM) Ironic that on a board that has been b****ing for years and years about an "all or nothing approach" there's a thread about an injury to a guy who can do a lot of things being a good thing because it gives a prototypical all or nothing hitter more playing time. Well when you lump all the varied personalities on Soxtalk together, you are bound to have some inconsistencies.
  2. Assuming "1S" means supplimental, I don't think they get that one back.
  3. I saw it in the "latest news" box and thought he was demoted to Charlotte Good to see that Ozzie is holding Linebrink accountable for his poor play lately.
  4. I can't see this team actually having enough money for Figgins let alone having enough to fill in the other holes.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) But then again, we get to play the Royals and Indians more often, so you give and take. Lately, it seems like that is not really a good thing.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 11:02 PM) Look dude, I don't know where you got the idea that freedom means free from consequences, but it doesn't. Freedom of speech means that people have the ability to preach hate. Freedom of religion means that people are allowed to preach racism and sexism. Freedom of the press means that media outlets are able to compromise criminal investigations. Individual freedom has never meant the best case scenario for everyone involved. It means each person is able to act in their own best interests. Just because the choices might not be ideal, doesn't mean you don't have freedoms. So, hypothetically speaking, if the system proposed by democrats worked as well as they say it would, you would not want it based on personal freedom alone? I'm not saying it will, but it seems like the only positive to having that personal freedom is the ideal of having more freedom. You basically said yourself that it really makes no sense to exercise that freedom. There are many freedoms that we do not have. Where do we draw the line?
  7. I love Bobby, but if throwing his curve hurts his shoulder then I don't want him anywhere near this team next year.
  8. If Freddy doesn't do so well on Tuesday, does anybody else think we see Hudson in a sox uniform this year, perhaps replacing Contreras once Peavy returns?
  9. This draft is starting to look not so good...
  10. Did he get moved up a level or is he still in A ball?
  11. I think we need to take into account the economy as well. If it stays the way it is for a couple years, it won't be quite as difficult to fill in holes with a small budget as the author assumes it will be.
  12. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) God, I hope we don’t start judging people on poor grammar. As if you people could think any less of me. Consider yourself judged.
  13. At least somebody showed up ready to play today. Congrats Mark!
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) Aaron Poreda anybody? Can we even bring him back up yet?
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Great. Brian is already for the BoSox. How did you actually get me to click on that link?
  16. How is there more pressure batting in the two hole versus batting later in the order?
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 10:54 PM) I want prospects added to the system to increase KW's ability to make bigger acquisitions in the offseason. Right now, our system is pretty thin if you consider Beckham and Richard to no longer be prospects. You're only looking at 5 or so legit guys in Danks, Dex Carter, Hudson, Viciedo, and Flowers (and potentially Mitchell) Our system may only have 5 or 6 big prospects, but you also have to remember that many of our players drafted out of high school can almost come out of nowhere in the future. Trayce Thompson (since it seems like he is going to sign), Steven Upchurch, Nevin Griffith, or any other young prospect that I don't know about may play themselves up into that "legit" prospect status, making our farm system potentially deeper than it may appear. All it takes is one good year.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 07:21 AM) I want you to watch all the video of how Aaron Poreda has pitched this year, and then watch the video of Clayton Richard. I then want you to read scouting reports on both players, and look at their minor league numbers, thereafter I want you to justify to me how Clayton Richard is decidedly a better option then Aaron Poreda. Also, to all those angry over this rotation, I suspect it’s going to look a bit different in two weeks, not Halladay different, but different. I'm not against putting Poreda in the rotation. If Colon is still doing poorly, I would suggest putting him in the rotation and giving Clayton some time in the bullpen. He can't be any worse. To me, it seems like people are expecting Aaron to come in and make it through a major league line up several times without getting hit hard. I don't think he has enough pitches to make it through more than a few innings yet.
  19. I realize Richard has been terrible, but anybody who thinks Poreda is going to come in and do a lot better than him is delusional. He has two pitches at best. Now, it might do some good for Clayton to get some time in the bullpen while we see how Poreda does in the starter's role, but anybody expecting Poreda to come in and pitch well and deep into games is setting themselves up for disappointment.
  20. I'm a little surprised that Viciedo was ranked that high. I would have expected him to be a couple spots down because of his disappointing season thus far.
  21. Is there any insight you can give us on why your college teammate Dexter Carter has not been promoted even though he has been dominating his league? How soon do you think you can reach the majors?
  22. What's up with Jared Mitchell?
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) I cannot even begin to fathom why anyone would be down on Poreda right now and NOT give him an opportunity to start. I'm willing to give him an opportunity to be the 5th starter, but I foresee him having similar issues as Richard. I don't think he has enough pitches right now to succeed in that position. He has what, one good pitch and two decent or below average ones? How exactly does everybody expect him to go deep into games? I say give Richard one more shot after the break, and, if he continues to suck, we can give Poreda or whoever a shot.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) Maybe we think Flowers can't catch, and he's more our future 1B/DH, and if that's the case and we wanted to move Brandon Allen right now while he still has a good deal of value, that's fine. But he had a lot more value than Tony Pena. If kenny thought Flowers couldn't catch, he would have been traded already.
  25. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) Prolific hitters who play 3B relatively well aren't exactly a dime a dozen. Sox fans have been spoiled by Ventura and Crede, and it's far from a lock that the Sox will land a player near the level of those two for the next decade. Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't think Crede was all that prolific. Don't get me wrong; he had his moments, but I don't think I would call him prolific. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) Worrying about "wasting" a player like Beckham at 3B doesn't make much sense to me, especially when Quentin and Alexei are the only other two above-average young hitters who will be making an impact after the nucleus of the current offense is dismantled this winter. The Sox need to procure better young hitters period... regardless of what position they play. When they actually draft/sign/trade for the next Robin Ventura, then they can worry about moving Beckham to 2B. The point about "wasting" Beckham is that you can find quite a few good hitters who can play third base, but it is harder to find good hitters who can play 2B or SS. If you can find a player who hits well and can field a premium position, you want to put him there, so you can fit more good hitters into your lineup. Unless Getz or Nix shows us that they can be our 2B next year, we need to move Beckham there. Otherwise, if we kept him at 3B, we would probably end up with a Uribe-style player at second and an essentially weaker lineup.
