  1. Even if the Sox have NO intention of dealing with the Cubs, you don't let that get out. JR needs to stop acting like a God damn child.
  2. I think Sale will get dealt but not sure it will be next week though.
  3. Callis was good on the radio. He doesn't think Boston will pony up for Sale, seemed to be leaning more so on the LAD or the Astros.
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) Deal. Add Puig too. Puig sucks and only has two years left on his deal, goes against RH's statement of getting long term pieces.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 6, 2016 -> 06:33 PM) I think Hahn has actually tipped his hand a few times already indicating some sort of a rebuild. Here are my off-season plans in order of likelihood. 1. Modified Rebuild. Trade Sale, Robertson, and Melky for sure. Dangle Frazier as well. Sign some free agents to 1 year deals that could be spun later. 2. Add Free Agents without QO's (Castro, Saunders, Lind/Alvarez, Bourjos) etc and sell at the deadline if it doesn't work. 3. Trade Everything now including Sale and Quinatana. 4. Add a ton of payroll and give up a draft pick to do so. I think 1 is most likely. I think Chris Sale is getting traded. I think Melky is getting traded and they'd like to trade David Robertson. Robertson could have more value at midseason though. Frazier could be traded or re-signed. I think Eaton and Quintana will require unattainable packages that don't happen this offseason with 5 and 4 years of respective control left. I think you're probably right here. As I said earlier they will probably hang on to Q because realistically if the rebuild plan works he will still be on the Sox when they're good again. I think him, Rodon, Eaton and Anderson stay as building blocks but everyone else is fair game.
  6. Not surprised at all. Looking like a rebuild is coming, should be an active offseason.
  7. I still think the Sox do some type of a rebuild but I think Q stays, he has 4 years left and realistically be on the team when the Sox are good again. I thnk Sale, Robertson, Frazier, Melky and maybe 1 or 2 more guys are dealt this offseason. Trying to add on to this team in the UFA market wouldn't be wise because after watching Cleveland in the postseason, the Sox aren't even close to competing with them next year especially when you consider they didn't have Brantley or Carrasco playing and Salazar was regulated to the bullpen because of his injury. Sox need to get younger and try to build a team that can sustain success over time as the current model hasn't worked.
  8. Good series so far. Kluber and Miller clutch for the Tribe in game 1, Cubs show some guts in game 2. The Schwarber talk was getting to be a little much for my liking but man can he rake. Cool story him coming back now after tearing up his knee in April.
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) It'll be interesting to see how long they have until Lester gets old. Hendricks will definitely regress a little bit next year as well. Their staff is solid going forward but it can definitely be better. I actually really like Lester and think he'll be just fine in the coming years. I thought the Cubs made the smart choice paying him over Scherzer because he seems more durable over time, I'm not a fan of paying big money to fireballers as that never seems to work out well. Hendricks may regress but he seems like he could be a solid 2 or high 3 SP. 2018 will be interesting because that's when Arrieta can go elsewhere (he will) and i'm going to assume that Lackey is done then so they'll need a staff. That being said they have the assets and cash to do that so they'll probably be just fine.
  10. I think my biggest issue with the Sox FO is that I don't trust them in actually having a plan for whatever route they want to go. It just seems like decisions are made on the fly without any planning involved of not only the present but the future too. The James Shields move is a perfect example of this, that was a panic move at the time and there was a reason that a cashed strapped San Diego team was willing to fork over alot of money to get rid of Shields and the Sox couldn't sniff that out at all. Honestly I hope they rebuild the right way and have a solid plan in place. I've mentioned before that if compare them with the Cubs when Theo took over, the Sox have better assets to move and could actually compete quicker than the Cubs did in the Theo Era which was basically 3 awful seasons followed by 200 wins combined in the next two regular seasons with 2 LCS trips and 1 WS trip. I think the fanbase is ready for a rebuild and would actually get behind it. All that being said it's still for me to process that JR and KW would say yes to that. I can see them seeing a team like Cleveland and saying that could be us next year with a few moves and trying to go for it again. The problem is if they fail again then it's basically like chasing your losses when you're playing Blackjack, eventually the chickens will come home to roost and the organization will fall into a deeper hole that will take years to get out of. Also it probably doesn't help that the Cubs are in the WS as everyone knows that JR and KW hate the Cubs so it's hard to see them say "yeah we'll rebuild while the Cubs are a powerhouse".
  11. ESPN is a joke. Their explanation makes no sense at all either.
  12. Cubs in 5. However if Cleveland wins the first two it will be very interesting but I actually think not having the home field might benefit the Cubs. I never thought the 2-3-2 was very beneficial for the team with home field advantage. Quite frankly though I just think the Cubs are the better team.
  13. I think the Dodgers have to take 2 of the first 3 games to make this a series, otherwise it will be a short series IMO. As for the comments about the Cubs getting crowned before last year's NLCS, not sure who was saying that. Anyone who watched MLB last year could've have predicted that the Mets' fireballers were going to be a problem for last year's Cubs team. I had the Mets in 6 last year. Going Cubs in 5 this year. Dodgers good but too injured and may have blown their wad against the Nats.
  14. Great game tonight, hopefully the start of a great series. I like Cleveland in 7.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 11:03 PM) If you could get Moncada, Benintendi, Kopech and Swihart for Sale and Melky, do you do it? Yes, absolutely.
  16. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 10:47 PM) I've read this twice now that the Red Sox will not trade for a SP. I call BS. Any team with prospects will entertain a Sale trade just purely based on due diligence. Being a top 5 pitcher with a contract so great, he is worth the price tag the White Sox are asking. I think Sale will be traded, not just to rebuild, but after his Jerseygate fiasco, I really think the White Sox want him gone. I agree 100%. He can bring back the most in any trade and if they don't go full rebuild, they have a 1A SP in Q who they can retool/rebuild around and they have him for a year longer than Sale.
  17. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) I don't see NY, CHC, PIT, WSH, TEX, or STL as matches. The only other team besides Boston that I think could swing this type of deal is LA but they'd have to be willing to part with Urias I'd think. Respectfully disagree. If the Yankees want to get in on Sale/Q they definitely have the pieces that would allow them to do it now. We all know the Cubs have the pieces although unless Sox management has changed it's tune with dealing with the Cubs, then that's not happening. Pittsburgh has a loaded system (Glasnow, Meadows, Bell, Newman) plus some nice MLB young talent in Marte and Polanco. They will be a much better team next year and probably need to make a major move to compete with the Cubs and Cards. We've already discussed Texas ad nauseam. Washington has a deep farm system plus their window may only be open for so long with Harper looming as a UFA after the 2018 season. The Cardinals seem to churn out good MLB players every year and are always in the race. Would think Alex Reyes would be involved in any deal involving them.
  18. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) But which teams have both quality and quality of disposable assets to get a deal done? Of teams that I would consider "contending" teams or teams that should be pretty competitive: NYY, HOU, CHC, PIT, LAD, WSH, BOS, TEX, STL.
  19. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) I don't think the Rangers are a good match. Apparently the Yankees aren't either: https://www.nj.com/articles/19446931/white_...p?client=safari I think it's boom or bust with the Red Sox and ultimately I still think Sale stays. There will be a ton of teams in on these guys if they're available, not just Boston and Texas.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) I see no scenario where the Sox undergo a full scorched earth rebuild. What really is considered a "full scorched" rebuild with this team? I think there are 3-4 guys that can get the Sox back big time talent. Those guys are Sale, Q, Eaton and possibly Abreu. I won't count Rodon because he is a part of the rebuild if they go that route. I don't think they trade all those guys but I do think they deal Sale for sure and possibly Q depending on the package. Guessing Eaton stays since this team needs better position players and he's one of their best plus he's young and affordable. I still think there will be some type of sell off even if it' not a total rebuild. I think Sale, Frazier, Melky and Robertson will for sure be traded in the offseason and possibly some others depending on what's coming back.
  21. Overall a very good baseball series. Giants bullpen was eventually going to crap the bed but credit to the Cubs for making that happen. Still in shock, totally thought this was going 5.
  22. I expect Frazier to be in a different uniform on Opening Day 2017.
  23. There will be many suitors for both guys, Sox should be able to get a nice haul for each guy.
  24. I think an under the radar team for Sale is the Cardinals. They always have good prospects and they need to do something to close the gap between them and the Cubs. They missed out on the playoffs this year by 1 game, add Sale to that team and they most likely get in as a WC and win the WC game.
  25. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 9, 2016 -> 07:21 AM) The Cubs have not impressed me. Their defense has been shaky at times, their offense has been nearly non existent but their pitching has been excellent. If their offense continues to struggle this postseason they are not going to win the World Series. Eventually the pitching will crack against a better offense (think any AL team). Their highly regarded offense has yet to prove they can perform in October against good pitching. Of course that could change, but this series has only further reinforced this notion. Their two MVP candidates have career postseason OPS of 689 and 522. That's not going to get it done if they get past the Giants. Good luck with all that considering they have the best pitching staff and defense in baseball. I think the Dodgers and Red Sox are their biggest roadblocks if they get past the Giants but right now they're heavy favorites.
