  1. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 07:18 AM) I think I'm probably in the vast minority, but I'd trade Q for Bruce straight up. That's assuming Bruce is back to 100%. I think he'd bring more to the Sox than Quintana. I know people mention his contract but 17 mill, or whatever he's scheduled to make, doesn't seem all that bad when the Sox just gave 12.5 mill to a 35 year old part time DH. Maybe I overrate Bruce, but a 27 year old who has put up his kind of numbers is the type of guy that can be a major building block. Q has waaay too much value to trade him straight up for Bruce.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 01:23 AM) This article suggests he can be drafted. I find it hard to understand how he's not protected, given some of the mediocrities (and worse) on the 40 man. L Garcia defines credulity if Rondon isn't protected. (and I realize that Ventura apparently liked L Garcia despite his complete inability to hit). http://www.southsidesox.com/minors/2014/8/...league-baseball I believe Myles Jaye is eligible as well. some people were high on him a year ago, although he didn't seem to progress much. Rondon started his pro career in 2011, so he cannot be drafted this year. The article was wrong. His first season of pro ball (2011) was in Dominica. Not sure if that year even counts.
  3. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) except LaRoche costs alot less for less time and didn't need to include an All Star shortstop 2-3 days ago I read that all LA wanted to get rid of Ethier was a "prospect with some upside." If Alexie gets in that deal, it will be for a lot more than Ethier.
  4. There's a reason he was DFA'd by Rays. Someone stuck a fork in him. He'll make a good coach.
  5. I'm pretty certain that Hahn could have gotten Ethier instead of LaRoche. He made his choice. We'll see who has the better year. Ethier probably hits better, not as much power, plays outfield, first base, DH, more speed, younger, makes Viciedo expendable, extra year, loss of a prospect, better looking. I'd have taken Ethier by a nose.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 05:23 PM) Danish profiles as a reliever due to his delivery. Montas doesn't profile as a reliever at all, unless the Sox have to rush him on up and devalue their young players. He's 21 years old and his secondary pitches are improving. He may not fully develop, but that's true for any pitcher. But he doesn't profile as a reliever. Actually it scares me a little that he's on the 40 man. I don't think he's rule 5 eligible, and he won't be ready for a rotation spot this year. Montas has 5 yrs in pro ball, so he would have been eligible to be picked if not promoted to 40 man.
  7. Leury lives for another day. Waiting for the scouting report on our new lefty......
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) if there is room on the 40 man roster, why not? Might not be room after Sox add Montas, Ravelo, etc.
  9. I can't imagine why Sox would keep Leury Garcia on the 40 man.
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 03:39 AM) Phil Rodgers actually hits the entire article dead on IMO. 5 Things the Sox Should Do Next Who is Kent Maeda?
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) Wilkins is already on the 40. He was called up in Sept. Right. What I meant was that he will prob stay there. And, Smith promoted, possibly.
  12. Then there are Wilkins and Kev Smith. They will prob both be on the 40 man tomorrow. Smith is a tough decision, tho.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 11:41 PM) Figure out a trade where the Sox get Kemp, AJ Ellis, and Arruebarrena and the Dodgers get Alexei and John Danks. Do you rate Arruebarrena ahead of either Semien or Carlos Sanchez?
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) Miller was a top 10 prospect no so long ago and still has done a decent job on the major league level and is controlled for several more years. I don't understand why some think this is a steal. The Braves usually don't make really bad trades. Are you sure about that? didn't they trade Adam Wainwright to the Cards?
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 10:28 PM) Ichiro doesn't fit what the Sox are looking for at this point. If this were next year, it'd be different, but it's just not the time for him. He should finish his career in Seattle and then go away. He'll get a few HOF votes.
  16. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 05:11 PM) I think people are way overrating Heyward. Earlier in the year Atlanta was not very happy with him. He hit 11 HR's and had an OPS of .735. He plays stellar defense but guys with those numbers are not going to cost "the farm". He's a good player but he's no superstar or untouchable by any means. He's a career .262 hitter and has had 1 year with more than 20 HR's. He's definitely attainable. Me too. Good fielder and base runner. In addition to your comments, he doesn't knock in a lot or runs. I don't know his RISP stats but my recollection is that Braves put him at leadoff mid season just for that reason. Doesn't make him a bad guy, but Sox would not be getting Mr. Clutch. Still, He would make the Sox a better team.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 08:21 AM) Yeah CarGo is elite defensively. Yes, he is, absolutely, as long as he is not on crutches. He has won three Gold Glove Awards, IIRC. Three. Great range, instincts, super arm.
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 06:37 PM) Not even close to reality. Hawkins is our number 1 outfield prospect, an easy top 10 in our system, with excellent, albeit unrefined tools, who just had a bounceback season. Nothing about him fits the definition of a spare part. The Sox have no second baseman and may be peddling the SS. Those 2 positions will be divided among 3 players, of whom Sanchez is one. Now it's also true I have little interest in a highly paid player with De Aza numbers away from Coors field who is poor defensively and who has big warning signs indicating sharp decline. He may be iconic to the Rockies, but he's extremely flawed in my eye. The Sox need a good fielding LF who can hit -and that will be the hardest need to fill, no doubt. GreenSox, having lived in Denver for many years, I have seen a lot of Cargo. I am as aware of his danger signs and his contract as you are. But, he is not a poor defensive OF. Far from it. If you stick him in one outfield spot and leave him there, we're talking gold glove consideration for that position. I don't care what defensive metrics are out there on him. While on Cargo, there is an excellent article published a few days ago at purplerow.com. It gives 5 reasons for and against moving him. I cannot get the link, however. Maybe one of you guys can. Tks.

  20. When Cargo signed that huge contract, he was coming off a really good year and he was still young. A five tool guy if there ever was one. His agent was Scott Boras, but Cargo pretty much negotiated that contract on his own. 'Negotiate' might be an exaggeration, because I think it was simply offered to him by the Rockies (GM was Dan O'Dowd), and Cargo took it. Boros argued against it, wanting to take him to free agency. It came on the heels of the Tulo signing, IIRC. The rest is history.
  21. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 06:31 PM) Agreed. I cannot believe I'm going to say this but I'd rather have Rasmus since the production is similar and Rasmus can be had for a cheaper salary and will not require the Sox to trade any young talent. IMO, the proposed offer for CarGo is a huge over pay. Rasmus cannot carry Cargo's jockstrap.
  22. We traded 24-25 yr old Jake Sanchez, who had a decent year in Oak system, for Taylor.
  23. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) I remember last winter, TUC and I had gone back and forth over Sale. I said that for a big haul I would deal Sale in a heartbeat and TUC disagreed big time. Now that Q has solidified himself behind Sale in the rotation and with the Sox having Rodon to add to those guys, it would take a haul likely never seen in MLB history for me to go along with the idea. I look back and laugh how TUC and I went back and forth, I miss that dude and hope he comes back soon now that the seasons over. Oh man you are not kidding! Seems every cub fan I come across wants to talk to me about cub prospects like I know them intimately and actually give a s***. They are oblivious even when my Sox hat is staring straight at them! Its cool to see cub fans have guys to get excited over but I really only give a s*** about the Sox and what they have to get excited about as indicated by the SOX on my hat. Where did TUC go?
