Yup this really reminded me of that. Although that fight was pretty bad. I don't think this one was anywhere near as bad.

Oh definitely, that one in 2000 was quite a doozy.  This wasn’t near that, but hoping it has the same effect on the team after today like that one did for the Sox back then.

Will it simply be the start of the playoffs that gets this team playing with purpose and energy? Or does it have to start somehow in this last week and a half of the regular season? Can a team that has played months without any pressure or challenge from other teams just turn it on come Oct 7? What is it going to take to light a fire under these guys? Or will they all just be able to turn up their games starting Oct 7.

How does TLR handle the last 8 or 9 games of the season after they clinch? Do you sit the regulars? Do you put your playoff lineup out there the last 4 or 5 games to try to get them in a groove together? Lot's of questions going in to this post season. I think a whole lot of people are writing them off against Houston because of how they have been playing this last half of the season.  If Tony is as smart as some people seem to think then he will take these next 15 days to get this team mentally ready to go.

I like the fact most everyone isn't giving them a chance to beat Houston. Hopefully the team will use that as added motivation. Whatever happens I can't wait to watch it.

    Lol @ most everyone

  3. The team that looked outstanding in playoff type atmospheres and mostly in front of national audiences, such as the Field of Dreams game, the recent Red Sox series, both Cubs series, and even the recent Yankees series, will be the one we see next month once the team returns to that type of atmosphere.

No worries whatsoever.  Not with the talent on this team.

I'm not convinced that's true, at all.

Say the Sox make a long playoff run. Say they win the World Series and Rodon is the ace during the playoffs, pulls a Bumgarner. While that will earn him more money on the open market, I also could very easily see Jerry and the brass making sure that World Series "hero" doesn't walk away for nothing....

A lot will have to do with this teams performance in October.

The wild card is Mr. Boras as agent greatly reduces the likelihood of Rodon returning, especially if he lights it up next month.

I’m not convinced this organization as currently owned and operated will ever agree to sign a Boras premium free agent.

Hope I’m wrong, because I love Rodon.

Yeah.  It was a seven run lead.

I’m not just talking about this one game.  It’s the trend since he’s joined us.

I think Kimbrel is a great pitcher, and there’s a reason he’s a future Hall of Famer.  But the plan the Sox have for him isn’t working as designed.  We are putting him in unfamiliar situations, and quite frankly, embarrassing situations.

Putting him in tonight, this elite reliever, as some sort of mop up man with a seven run lead against a lowly team like the Cubs is a joke, and we are paying the price for it.

  6. The Sox have thrust him into situations he’s just not comfortable in.  8th inning situations and then a seven run lead over a team like the Cubs.

You can see it in his eyes.  He’s trying, but he’s a future HOF reliever, and it’s almost like asking Abreu to play shortstop.

On paper having he and Liam back-to-back in the late innings sounds great, but obviously in reality, it’s not working.

We actually missed Leury when he was hurt. Without Engel we were stretched pretty thin on in the OF and on the bench. Goodwin had to play against lefties cause we didn't have anyone else to play. We also couldn't really pinch hit for him either cause all the other guys on the bench were left handed.

Great points.  For me, on a healthy team, Leury is an ideal super sub.  With all of the injuries, of course, he’s been exposed more than you’d like.  For the remainder of this year, he won’t kill us as part of a platoon in RF batting 8th or 9th.  Not with the return of our injured players

Aside from the fact Quentin was always an outfielder and Vaughn was only ever envisioned as a 1B until Eloy got hurt? Or the fact Vaughn hasn't played above A-ball til this year? We've gotten more than we could have expected from him if you'd have asked five months ago

Not to mention, but just having similar stats doesn’t mean you profile as the same player.  I liked Quentin for the hot minute he was here, but I don’t think of or see him when watching Vaughn.
