  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 12:20 PM) Not surprising seeing as how so many people are easily offended these days. I'll have to pick up a hat with Chief Wahoo while they are still being made. Goddammit.
  2. Welcome to the 20th century, Cleveland. Names like "Indians" and "Braves" and "Chiefs" at least seem worth debating, but this logo and the name of the Washington NFL team seem like the non-negotiable ones to me.
  3. Does anyone know if Sunday's seminar with all of the Latin ballplayers ("La Vida fuera del Clubhouse") will have an interpreter, or is it just in Spanish?
  4. As I heard someone say once... "Carson Cistulli is definitely an acquired taste, and I've definitely acquired it."
  5. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 07:55 AM) What about 720, how does that come in? They apparently made a play for the White Sox in 2016 before 890 snagged them. I wish the Sox never left the Score, and I wish they’d be on a sports talk station so they’d actually be talked about instead of just hearing Cubs talk. Yeah, I think pretty much all the clear channels come in really well. Honestly WTMJ almost definitely comes in better than WMVP.
  6. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 07:48 AM) I would hope they land with AM 1000 Chicago since 670 is tied up with the Cubs. I doubt they’d end up with 780 or 720 for a long term partnership given the history with the Cubs on a sister station and with WGN. The 1000 signal is awful out west of the city. It was bad enough growing up in Oswego, and I think it's probably even worse now that I'm in rural Kane County.
  7. Wild. It's been what, two seasons? I have SiriusXM so I never tune into the games on AM anyway--it's only the home feeds that are available on satellite but A) they actually display the inning, score, and outs, which is necessary when you have DJ and Farmer "announcing" a game, and B) I'd almost always rather hear the opposing team's feed than Ed and DJ anyway.
  8. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 01:44 PM) Congrats????Moving from coverage of the White Sox to the Twins sounds like a step down to me................................. He's moving from being unemployed to the Twins beat...
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 12:57 PM) The problems are obviously myriad for the traditional newspapers but IMO they hastened their own demise by cutting their talent rather than doubling down. The Athletic is actually paying for premium talent and attracts a readership because it's worth paying for. SSS has been a wasteland since Jim left so the best Sox coverage will be here and at the Athletic this year. I'm not sure how much actual reporting Jim will be doing at Sox Machine. He mostly is just a "reaction" guy now. Only Future Sox and the Athletic consistently have access to and talk to Sox players and personnel. I never thought of Jim as a "reporter." I've only really associated with "reaction" pieces.
  10. Help us, (Illinois-born) Madison Keys. You're our only hope.
  11. Pleasantly surprised to see Thome getting near-universal support. I imagine he'll wind up in the low 80s range like Frank. Weirded out that someone didn't vote for Chipper. Character clause?
  12. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) This is actually where I expected Bautista to sign for something like 1/5M. Kind of a can’t lose situation. If he hits, flip him at the deadline. If he doesn’t, no big deal. I agree. If he hits, he'll also help to put some butts in seats before being flipped.
  13. How many of the '59 Sox are still around? I knew Aparicio, and looks like Rivera and Al Smith are still alive as well. I figured Lip would know this offhand.
  14. I'm thinking of attending Opening Day in KC--anyone ever done opening day on the road before? I can't figure out if it would be cool or awful.
  15. Sam Miller is a god among baseball writers and reading ESPN commenters who just don't *get* it is one of my favorite pastimes.
  16. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) Definitely seems more likely that he gets extended than traded. wut Wrong thread?
  17. QUOTE (South Sider @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 10:19 PM) I wish Abreu would start coveting 120 RBI seasons. This is dumb.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) Yoan Moncada might post a 280/380/500 line for the next decade. I could get used to that at 2B. Well, yeah, that's a Hall of Famer.
  19. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) Yoan with a .306/.375/.527/.902 slash and a tolerable 25% k rate so far in September. Can't complain about that. lol, this is incredibly misleading. 14 days would already be a ridiculously small sample...but he was on the DL. He's basically been back a week. I'm a backer and I'm not worried about him, but come on now.
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 05:19 PM) I will start this one tonight for a win as we make a run for that wild card spot What happened to Giolito!?
  21. Jones, Petricka, Putnam. Cursed bullpen trio.
  22. Law has remained relatively high on Giolito throughout, right?
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) Weird, looks like Ricky was misquoted, he said ReyLo I'm not sure which is worse.
  24. Cool. I'm going this Saturday for the Buehrle bobble (which doesn't even look like him), and next Wednesday for Dog Day. Looked like it was gonna be Shields and Giolito, but with the reshuffle looks like it'll be Rodon and Lopez. Nice.
  25. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) My ex loves Yolmer. Which is ironic considering he reminds me of Maggs which is who my high school sweetheart loved. ? They don't look a thing alike...
